Herabsetzung statt Gastfreundschaft - meine Erfahrung am 12. August Am Dienstag, den 12. August, wollte ich gemeinsam mit meiner Schwester und ihrem Schwager dieses Restaurant besuchen. Als wir ankamen, fragte ich den Kellner höflich, ob wir an einem bestimmten Tisch Platz nehmen dürften. Zu meiner Überraschung reagierte er sehr schroff und entgegnete in unfreundlichem Ton: "Nein, können Sie nicht." Zunächst war ich irritiert und dachte, er mache vielleicht einen Scherz. Doch nachdem meine Schwester nachhakte und fragte, ob der Tisch reserviert sei, wiederholte er unmissverständlich, dass wir uns dort nicht hinsetzen dürften. Ich möchte niemandem vorschnell etwas unterstellen, aber die Art, wie er mit uns sprach, wirkte auf mich herablassend und in ihrer Schärfe unnötig verletzend. Der Tisch hatte uns angelächelt, weil er im Schatten lag - für mich sehr wichtig, da ich aufgrund meiner Haut nicht lange in der Sonne sitzen kann. Dass dort noch zwei leere Biergläser standen, hätte man uns mit einer einfachen, respektvollen Erklärung mitteilen können, etwa dass er den Tisch erst noch abräumen müsse. Stattdessen wurden wir schroff zurückgewiesen. Seit ich im Januar nach Dresden gezogen bin, habe ich zum Glück bisher keine rassistischen oder diskriminierenden Erfahrungen gemacht. Doch an diesem Tag fühlte ich mich zutiefst respektlos behandelt. Der Mann meiner Schwester versuchte schließlich, die Situation zu beruhigen, und sagte in perfektem Deutsch, der Kellner solle seine schlechte Laune nicht an Gästen auslassen. Dennoch hörte er nicht auf, sich über uns zu erregen. Am Ende waren wir so vor den Kopf gestoßen, dass wir das Restaurant verließen und ein Lokal in der Nachbarschaft aufsuchten - dort wurden wir freundlich und zuvorkommend empfangen. Bis heute bin ich fassungslos, dass man im Jahr 2025 noch immer solche Erfahrungen machen muss. Disrespect Instead of Hospitality - My Experience on August 12 On Tuesday, August 12, I went to this restaurant together with my sister and her brother-in-law. When we arrived, I politely asked the waiter if we could sit at a particular table. To my surprise, he responded very harshly and said in an unfriendly tone: "No, you cannot." At first, I was confused and thought he might be joking. But when my sister followed up and asked if the table was reserved, he repeated, in no uncertain terms, that we were not allowed to sit there. I do not want to accuse anyone lightly, but the way he spoke to us felt condescending and unnecessarily hurtful. The table had caught my eye because it was in the shade - something very important to me, as I cannot stay in the sun for long due to my skin. There were still two empty beer glasses on the table, and if that had been the reason, he could have simply explained politely that he needed some time to clear it. Instead, we were dismissed in a rude manner. Since moving to Dresden in January, I have thankfully not experienced any racist or discriminatory behavior. But on that day, I felt deeply disrespected. My sister's husband eventually tried to calm the situation and said, in perfect German, that the waiter should not take his bad mood out on guests. Still, the waiter continued to get upset about the fact that we wanted to sit at that table. In the end, we were so shocked that we left the restaurant and went to another place just one street away - where we were greeted with kindness and courtesy. We stopped in for a meal. We didn't have a reservation, but they sat us anyway really fast. We ordered the fondue and was not expecting it to come with so many things to dip. The cheese was spectacular! For a meal I got some sausages over fried potatoes which hit my cravings perfectly. Great atmosphere, with some couples having a date night. Me and Hubby found Edelweiss Restaurant on our last night in Dresden. Had we found it earlier, we would have returned. Edelweiss is located in Frauenkirche square. The restaurant is cozy and feels like a Swiss chalet. It was hard to figure out an available table because every table had a reservation sign on it, but the server seated us and showed us the there is a time for the reservation that was much later. Me and Hubby had a light meal. I had a baked potato and Hubby soup. Both were good. We shared a pretzel, which was good but not memorable. The best part of the meal was the Black Forest Cake, which is heavenly. Good service, good food, reasonable prices, and they accept American Express. read more

This is genuinely good. Yes it's slightly expensive but all of us agreed (two genuine Germans included) that it was excellent food. Very fast, polite, and nice servers. Highly recommended if you're wanting to try something German adjacent. We had the pork cheek, the schnitzel, and the veal rösti. The location also cannot be beat. Fantastic restaurant. I can't believe that a number of Yelpers gave this place less than 4 stars. This is the best Swiss food I have ever had outside of der Schweiz. Superb cleanliness, good service, and large, tasty portions of everything we ordered. We also ordered appetizers, but in the end, we simply ordered too much, as the portions were bigger than average for Europe. This is a touristy location, but this is not a tourist trap. It is authentic Swiss food, and it is definitely not expensive. In fact, it is downright inexpensive. Great deal; great food. Don't believe anything you read negative here on Yelp. Yeah yeah I know. Why go to Germany and eat at a Swiss restaurant. Well I needed a variation and this was an option that was suggested. This restaurant sits in front of the Dresden Frauenkirche with the white fur covers on the chairs outside. We ended up sitting in a nice spot in the back. The décor reminded me of a log cabin in the mountains and the heat they had blasting accompanied it. .I ordered the Meatloaf and spaetzli with limeade and a chocolate cake for dessert. The meatloaf and the spaetzli were delicious. I cleared that plate and actually wanted some more. The chocolate cake was ok it was a nice end to the dinner. I wouldn't order the limeade again I should have just stuck with water. read more

Pleasant hard working staff - nice selection of cold drinks. It is convenient to many inner city areas and it is not a tourist trap.... but (you knew there was a but coming) if you are searching for traditional Flammkuchen, go elsewhere. The pie is not pre sliced, and the crust is not cooked in the center - the result is gooey. read more

Great Swiss restaurant in city centre of Dresden. We had gluewein and fondue. Very nice place with character. People are nice and food is authentic. It might be a bit touristy but nice to have a place with character. It has heaters in the headrest so good warm stop. The patio is accommodating with blankets. Not far too go. It also has deer consomme with bone marrow. Interesting menu. Would come by again. read more

This is a lovely little cafe in the shadows of Dresden's Frauenkirche. That alone should probably be the big warning that this place is a tourist trap, which it is. But for a tourist trap, it isn't bad. Of course, it took forever to get the attention of the waitresses, and then it took awhile for the food to arrive. However, the variety on the menu (it claims an Alps-inspired menu) was very broad and the prices were surprisingly reasonable. A bowl of barley stew with bündnerfleisch was less than €6 and was very delicious (lets put aside the fact I still have no idea what bündnerfleisch is. I want to say... beef?) And, to be honest, I think I was in a much more dessert mood anyway, and the Eiskaffee was great. The alley of restaurants nearby provides a lot of tempting options, but I'd give Edelweiss credit for doing a solid job in a touristy place. If you're already in the area, looking for a small bite, and have some free time and good company, it's a good option. read more

Cute restaurant with a Swiss Alps look and theme - waitresses in typical costume and very friendly. I had the Edelweiss Frühstuck, a complete typical breakfast with scrambled eggs, breads, meat, cheese, fruit, yogurt with muesli and coffee. Party of 5 women. We ate here 2 times. The second time only because it was next to our hotel and nothing close was available for breakfast. Service slow. Staff at night was nice but we found multiple charges on our bill that we had not ordered. Thank heavens for Google Translate. Morning staff was rude. This is basically a food poisoning story from late 2017. We were a group of six: four residents, two visiting from Berlin. So we are not tourists who don't know what and where they eat during a day. First of all, the food here is ok, we've been here three times before, there is a lot to chose from. The waitresses are slow as hell but very nice. The horror story: Two people from our group were hugging the toilet later that night, about 5-6 hours later and almost simultaneously. It was really bad, we were even about to call an ambulance. And we're pretty sure they got it from here since we haven't been anywhere else that day and putting one and one together wasn't difficult to figure it out. We had dessert, ordered 3 different cakes, which were all warm. It was most definitely the cake with lots of cream and the almond paste on it, since only those who have shared it got the poisoning. During the day they have not shared any other meal, not even a handshake. In retrospective we realized that one of us (who is kind of a germaphobe and who of course didn't have cake, duh) even made that observation right after we entered, she said "Oh that's strange, they just store their cakes outside the fridge?" - so the blame might be on us. Omelet with bacon. Lot of bacon. About 9 inches long by 4 inches wide and 1/2 thick. Flavor was just OK but my wife liked And fresh squeezed orange juice - about 8 oz of juice and taste fresh. Good bread. But cold butter. My wife got the edelweiss- fruhstuck. Which is a full list of continental breakfast plus an omelet. No comments, but also no high praise. It was what it was and that was great. They offer a very large arrange of food to choose from and will therefore appeal to most people. The cute details on the tables and the decor inside give you a real Alpen-feel in Saxony. read more

While visiting the city of Dresden in Deutschland (Germany), and after walking and sightseeing, we decided to stop at this comfortable looking corner restaurant. I'm telling you, if you are ever in the area, you must stop by and have a bite. The place is immaculate. The staff were friendly and spoke English. It is a Swiss alps style restaurant. In my opinnion, the German beer was very good plus the food was AAA+ delicious. A bit costly, but definitely worth the euros. The inside of the place is very attractive and romantic. The service was good, the ambience is alright, but the food is far from great Swiss cuisine. We ordered the Cheese-Fondue, which should not be hard to mess up. The cheese was not spicy, very bland. This is probably the worse place to go. If you need the definition of a tourist trap - you can just use "edelweiss - Alpenrestaurant". Service is horrible - we waited for 1 hour to get our food only to be told by the waiter "leave me alone, your order is on it's way". Well it wasn't ... oh well - don't go there... Slow, wrong food, not friendly, no Rivella. There was nobody working inside, which explains the slowness.

We had three different servers. Two were just fine - one was the rudest I've encountered in a long time.! There are lots of great places in Dresden. I recommend going somewhere where you can have excellent food and fantastic, pleasant service. read more

Had breakfast here while visiting Dresden from Canada. The service was fairly quick but the waitress was very unpleasant. Not only was she rude, she messed up our order and then was very snippy about it. I noticed she was unpleasant with the tables around us as well so it wasn't personal. The food was ok and if the service had been pleasant it could have been a good experience but instead it ruined our breakfast. read more
