Had a bad experience here. Brought my car in for state inspection a little over a year ago -…read moredebated even posting this because morally I want to support small businesses (especially minority-owned ones) but realized I really should warn others. Took them a week to inspect my car after making n appointment and confirming they weren't backed up - and had to call to inquire them twice. I kept walking by the business and they were constantly parking my car in different spots/moving. When they finally called me (after I kept asking them about it) they claimed my car was completely run down and I would need to pay a few thousand in repairs or I needed to take it away. First, they almost lost my car keys. Then, they said my battery was dead which was untrue, as it was not old and ran fine after jumping it - I suspect they just ran it dead. They also tried to say I needed new breaks, needed tons of engine work, my AC was broken, there was massive underwork on the carriage needed, the list went on and on to pass state inspection - 90% wrong. Their response raised red flags as I often keep up with work on the vehicle as Subarus have a long life if looked after and a lot of these issues were never brought up before. Upon getting a second opinion elsewhere, two separate mechanics at other places confirmed that most of what was listed was completely inaccurate and was very confused by what All Tech Automotive was claiming on the report I was given. I would suggest you to be VERY careful going to this place for work or state inspections - I suspect he either massively upcharges, tries to get you to buy into extra work for the car, or the mechanics are just bad at their jobs. I was a young looking college student at the time so I think he thought I didn't know better. I get times are tough with inflation, and most of his clients are probably wealthier off than me with my older car due to the neighborhood he's located in, but I don't appreciate being lied to in such a severe manner when I'm trying to give a place business. Hopefully, this saves someone else tons of time and money, I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone posting this as the other reviews claimed he was such a decent guy.

I've been going to Don's Auto for well over a decade and they've always treated me fairly, but this…read moreweek really reminded me why I keep coming back. My wife's car battery died unexpectedly and when I brought it in, Don didn't give me the runaround or try to sell me something I didn't need. He actually offered to refund me for the battery even though it had been installed months ago. That kind of honesty is rare. It's a family-run shop with people who are straightforward, fair, and genuinely trying to help their customers. If you're looking for a trustworthy mechanic in the area, Don's Auto is the place to go.

I can't recommend this business enough…read more I brought my 2010 Nissan Maxima to Don's Auto Repair in East Passyunk after a really frustrating experience at a dealership. At the dealership, my car passed emissions, but they refused to give me a safety inspection sticker unless I agreed to replace both front hub bearings plus do an alignment for $1,618.71. When I asked for proof the bearings were actually bad (wheel play, stethoscope on the hub, etc.), they couldn't show me anything concrete just "it's the noise, trust us." I walked away instead of approving almost $2,000 of work. When I went to Don's, I did not tell him what the dealership claimed the problem was. I wanted to see what he thought it was. All I told Don was that my Maxima had a loud roaring noise above ~30 mph. He took the car in and within 9 minutes found the real issue: it was ONLY the front LEFT wheel bearing, NOT both. From there, he then gave me the option between a brand-name wheel bearing and an off-brand (the cheaper one only saved about $40, but it was still nice to be asked instead of told) Don explained clearly what was wrong and that the left one was shot and absolutely needed to be replaced, and the right one could wait. Don replaced that single left front bearing in about 3 hours. Don charged me almost $1,100 less than I would have spent following the dealership's recommendation. A nice surprise: Don does not charge a credit card fee, which I honestly can't say for anywhere else I've been ever. My car is now quiet, the noise is gone, and it was fixed right the first time: with one bearing instead of two, no guessing, and no pressure. If you're tired of feeling like you're being sold to instead of helped, go to Don's. He's exactly what you hope a neighborhood mechanic will be: honest, efficient, transparent about options, fair on price, and actually interested in fixing the problem without damaging your wallet. I'd give more than 5 stars if I could. Thank you Don!

After someone hit my parked car and destroyed the bumper, I looked for a local body shop, and Liberty Auto Body had the best reviews by a mile. Not only does my bumper look better than when I first got it, they threw in a complimentary cleaning and detailing for the whole car and fixed a few minor things unrelated to the bumper at no charge.
