Is the bartender doing shots with the customers every time you go there? Are they completely out…read moreof or missing a key ingredient to what you would like to eat? Did the cook just scratch himself and then walk into the back and start balling up the meat for your hamburger? If you answered yes to these questions, there is a possibility that you are at Vick's Club 29.
The first time I went in there, we ordered a pizza. Well, they were out of the ingredients to make a pizza, but the waitress did run in back and find a small frozen pepperoni pizza in the back.
-"I can make this for you if you want."
-"OK, we'll take two of them."
-"We only have one."
A few minutes later, she came back and said "I found this taco pizza in the freezer."
Considering the first frozen pizza was a small, I would consider this one a "tiny." We were very hungry and since it was either a small pepperoni pizza and a tiny taco pizza or nothing at all, we ordered both of them.
"I can only cook one at a time though. The oven is not big enough for both of them."
They must only have one easy bake oven in the back.
The next time we were there, the waitress was much more interested in drinking bright blue shots with the customers at the bar than seeing if we were interested in anything to eat or drink. When she finally sauntered over, I ordered a steak sandwich. There was an option to add peppers and onions to it, which would add to the price. I decided to go with all of the fixings. A half an hour later, the cook came over and dropped a plain meat sandwich in front of me. "Do you have any peppers or onions?" I asked. "No, we're out." he said as he walked away. I guess it would have been nice to know that ahead of time, or even at all. Maybe he and the waitress just thought I might not notice. Don't worry, they didn't forget to charge me extra for the peppers and onions.
The people at the table next to me placed their order... but, they were out of the ingredients, so they had to guess again.
There hasn't been one time we have been there where the waitress and bartender were not doing shots during their shift. Receiving some type of food within 35 minutes of ordering is considered very speedy. Yesterday, my friend spent a good part of the night puking up his hamburger.
If I go back to eat there again, it will be purely to add another story to this review. Otherwise, it may just be safer to go there and observe.
August 2012 Update:
Well, I have been back to Vick's Club 29 quite a few times since my last review. Don't worry... I did not eat anything. Each time I have just visited, hung out, and observed... and every time I leave, I am happy that I made that decision.
A few of things I have observed since my last review:
The bartender serving food... with an open can of beer in her hand at all times.
A different afternoon.... the bartender was fall down drunk trying to convince a guy at the bar to buy her another beer for the road.
If you would like some lemon in your drink... don't worry, they have been out of lemons every time I have seen someone attempt to order one.
October 2012 Update:
Today I was at the 29 club. I was very hungry and quite tempted to order some food. All I had to do was observe the staff for a little while and that temptation vanished quickly.
While I was there, the cook desperately needed to take a smoke break before he prepared the next order. When he was outside smoking, the bartender rang up an order, gave the man his change, and went straight back into the kitchen to prepare the order with her unwashed, bare hands. In between flipping a burger or two, she made sure to run her fingers through her hair a few times before grabbing the buns from the bag.
By this time, smoke break was over for the cook. He put his phone back into his pocket and dug right into the next burger and bag of buns with his bare hands... yes he walked right by the sink without a second thought. Next order... onion rings! He grabs a bare handful of the rings... makes sure to cough on them a couple of times and throws them on a plate. Yum!
PS. If you are hungry for some fries or tots, they are out of both.
