So impressed with the cast and professionalism of all involved. The facilities were also well kept and we enjoyed a themed cocktail for the show. Hope for another opportunity to return and will be recommending to anyone heading to Philly :)

Old balconies and the upper mezz tier were full of charm as they keep the theater updated while retaining Victorian-meets-Deco motifs. The view from Orchestra left, row J, far outside aisle seats was beyond expectations. I was wary of being on the outer aisle but visibility was absolutely perfect! There was also an actual live orchestra playing every score from a pit under the stage. A couple of things were drawbacks. One, I understand that the production company is a separate entity from the theater so when our performance was delayed due to "technical difficulties" it could be a cast issue or an actual issue with the house. If the latter, then shame on WST for not having their sh!t together to be ready for the show. I have a gut feeling that a cast member missed a train and was late. Why? I've been to a lot of theater and when they wait until TEN MINUTES past showtime to disclose a "technical issue" it's usually a late cast member or last-minute need for an understudy. In this case, not only was the announcement past curtain, but after the 40min delay, there were zero technical issues throughout the performance and usually technical issues don't completely resolve if they took that long to rectify in the first place. That said, regardless of whose issue was delaying showtime, the house ought to have been on top of hospitality for their patrons and ought to have announced this delay 10 min PRIOR to showtime rather than after. Not only that, but when finally announced, they had had us packed in like sardines in the very small lobby and everyone was hot, miserable, and coughing on one another. Inexcusable. The fact that most of the patrons were Baby Boomers using senior decline as an excuse to behave narcissistically abusively (a trait they've championed their whole lives) made the situation unbearable. They were covert-aggressively knocking into us and others, trying to push toward house doors that were not open for anyone to sit. One old man stepped on my foot! This is disgraceful for drunk rugby hooligans and worse for senior theatrophiles! So while so many other elements were 10 stars, THIS knocks a TON off my average. Another negative, I'm all about supporting the arts and concessions help keep this theater afloat. But an airplane snack bag of pretzels for $4, and single whiskey (44-50ml, probably 44ml) for $17 is not even affordable to me! Sheesh! A half pint (200ml) of Maker's is $9.99 and 375ml is $15.50! I enjoy max 1-2 drinks about 2-5 times per YEAR, so I am not UTD on bar rates but Google says a half-pour at a bar on average is $5-$12, and I was actually expecting $10-$12 but wow, not 850% markup! Worse, no prices are posted for anything so they waste time lining people up when half of them either forfeit a ridiculous sum for the cheapest one little thing out of guilt, or walk away insulted like I did. Many positives with the structure and character of the old theater, and great views and sound, including authentic orchestra pit, but mismanaging delays, and bilking for concessions made the experience disappointing in ways it doesn't need to be. Hit Wawa across the street for snacks and hide a flask in your bag if you want a drink.

First I saw the Free Fringe one person play "All 100 Fires" was written and played by Donna Oblongata. This play plunged into many intersecting topics... dealing with our struggle for survival and dignity... our self destructive and violent nature... the hypocrisy found in our heroes. Donna Oblongata has something important to say here and she says it well through this play. Second is The Sea Voyage. This show held at the Seaport Museum is a rollicking comedy of buffoonery ... with ship wrecked crews... staving men... man hungry women... deception by all. Well performed by a talented group of actors.

The pros: -Was pleasantly surprised by the show. The performer (who were about to graduate from Circadium) were extremely talented. Not sure how other shows are at FA but this one was great. -Tickets were $15, very reasonable -Seats were socially distanced, after each group three seats were left empty to allow for spacing. Also the audience was seated in every other row. -Masks and hand sanitizer were readily available. The cons: -If you are planning to see a show, buy your tickets in advance if you can. Or plan to pay in cash. If you want to buy tickets at the front desk, there is only one credit card machine and it is extremely slow. It took our group a solid 10 mins to get tickets. -With all the social distancing protocols, it would be convenient if one was seated on the end of a row to be able to cross the front row and climb up the stairs, versus having people get up to let you in. -When asked about the show we were going to see, none of the employees at the front desk knew anything about the show. I would advise having the people working to be able to give the show's general description. Overall I would recommend taking the time to catch a show at FA. Be prepared to be exposed to something new. Just buy your tickets online or have cash ready if you are buying at the front box office.

I am SO glad I decided to take a study break and see Mazeppa Productions' (http://www.yelp.com/biz/mazeppa-productions-philadelphia) production of Avenue Q tonight because I am so giddy and happy and excited and relaxed that I almost forgot how much work I have to do! AMAZING cast. Seriously sometimes forgot those puppets weren't actually singing. And the guy who voiced Trekkie Monster AND one of the bad idea bears AND Nicky. Best facial expressions/voice ever. And the girl who played Lucy the Slut and Kate Monster had an incredible voice. Let's just say...I just saw Wicked at the Academy of Music in a theater about 30 times as big as this and 4 times as expensive, and the acting and singing and entertainment value of Avenue Q was on par. and I LOVED Wicked. It was great to be in a small theater and feel like you were IN the show and that the actors were so close. HILARIOUS. I was seriously cracking up and laughing so hard I should probably apologize to the people around me. Runs through July 27th. Tickets are $25. We went for Young Friends night (free booze!) and there's another special night coming up for a pre-show drinks and snacks deal (same price): LGBT night the 25th. If you're not familiar with the show, GO. If you're easily offended...maybe..loosen up? With songs like "Everyone's a little racist" and "The Internet is for PORN," this show may not be the best thing to take your grandmother/niece too. BUT IT WAS PRETTY MUCH THE BEST THING EVER.
