To say I'm a little pissed is probably an understatement. Apparently Hill Country Rifles bought…read moreNew Braunfels Gun Works and hasn't bothered to update the NBGW website. I trekked down from north Austin today only to find out they're no longer open on Saturdays, despite what the NBGW website says: [url=http://newbraunfelsgunworks.com/228-2]INFORMATION | New Braunfels Gun Works Besides the piss poor experience of burning gas for a useless trip and not keeping things up to date online, it's a clear sign that they simply don't want my business because I work during the week. If they can't post correct business hours I'm certainly not trusting them with a firearms restoration. Oh, and the one guy that was there, working in the weekend? He was very proud that because HCR bought them they could let their front office person go and use HCR's folks instead. I get economics, etc., but bragging about being able to fire someone (lay them off, whatever) is completely tasteless and reinforces my belief that money trumps values with these folks.

Hill Country Rifles does great work! They have accurized several rifles of mine and friends of…read moremine and everyone is very satisfied. I've shot each of the rifles ranging from a 257 Roberts to 300 Weatherby and 338 Winchester Magnum and each one met or exceeded their guarantee. Even the 338 WInchester shot much better than any rifle that powerful has a right to shoot! Matt Bettersworth is the single most knowledgeable person I have ever met regarding rifles. If he tells you something, he's probably right! I can't imagine why anyone would not be very satisfied with their service. Every business has a "bad day" once in awhile where everything goes wrong at once, but I honestly can't imagine HCR not making it right. They are good people with an extremely talented group of gunsmiths.

Under their recommendation, I purchased a suppressor, good quality red dot, and red dot mount for a PCC. When I was finally able to get the suppressor attached, the mount that I bought under the recommendation did not co-witness with the iron sites. When I tried to return/exchange for something else, I was told that it was past their 30 day return policy. I asked if they could simply allow me to exchange it for other merchandise, but again stuck to their policy. Needless to say, I am very disappointed. I had to wait more than 30 days for the adapters to mount the suppressor on the PCC, but I never went back and told them to cancel that order so I could purchase somewhere else. I was very patient and respectful with them while I waited. While I am not a huge customer, I will no longer be a customer.

I've been a long-time customer of Sportsman's Finest and have spent well over $6,000 here over the…read moreyears, but this recent experience was extremely disappointing. My friend purchased approximately $800 worth of hunting gear on November 21st that ended up not being used. The items were completely unworn and still had all tags attached. We attempted to return the items before he had to fly out, but the store is closed on Sundays. Due to the holidays and both of us being from out of town, we were unable to return the items until December 26th. At that point, we were told the return was refused because it was outside of their 30-day return policy. What's frustrating is that the policy does not reasonably account for store closures and holidays. This was not an abused return--everything was new and unused. When I called back to calmly explain the situation and ask if there was any flexibility, I was laughed at and told I was wrong. That response was unprofessional and upsetting. I expected better customer service from a company I've supported for years. Policies are one thing, but how customers are treated matters just as much. Unfortunately, this experience has made me reconsider shopping here in the future.
