I did some research (prices, businesses, ratings) before calling a service to cut down a tree in…read moreour front yard. I told my husband to call Burds due to their reviews and reputation...and WITHIN 45 MINUTES Ryan was on our property meeting with my husband (holy sh*t!). He eyed up the situation and gave us a price & approx. time (within a week or so). It was in our budget and time frame, and we agreed to the estimate. Unfortunately the weather didn't agree with the timeline (the winds were CRAZY STRONG) and we had to wait another week - but I rather safety come first - and that is a priority with Burds too. (Since I am in the service industry I know that customers can wig-out about this, we did not, and Burds were MORE THAN accommodating and attentive to our text). 3/27/25 was the day, they said 7:30 a.m. - and they were early (to my delight!) I wasn't able to stay and watch since I had an appointment then work. They were completed roughly at 10:20 a.m. - and everything was cleaned up nicely. When I got home that evening I was so happy that I didn't have to worry about branches falling in my driveway, or this huge tree falling on my house. Ryan and his assistant were professional, pleasant to deal with, and nicely priced for the work that they did. I would definitely refer Burds Tree Service over and over again. You lived up to the well-deserved ratings and exceeded my expectations (which, if you ask my husband, is hard to do - lol) Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Tree Lion was great! Sven was very communicative and provided a very thorough estimate. Sven and…read moreJake did our work over two full days. They advised us on the removal of a very large Black Birch tree on our property that was developing a very deep pit at its base that was holding water. There was a fear of it falling on the house or cars. Additionally, they trimmed and pruned three very overgrown Honey Locusts and shaped and pruned our wonderful Red Maple. Lastly, they shaped a Mulberry tree and removed a Pine that had grown inside the Mulberry. It was a very big job. Sven and Jake were pleasant, amenable, and professional. They cleaned the spaces as much as possoble. I strongly endorse Tree Lion Tree Services!

We first contacted Tree Lion through Yelp after a tree fell and affected multiple neighboring…read moreproperties. Initially, they indicated they could come out on Saturday, July 4, but the estimate was ultimately confirmed for Sunday, July 5, between 11:00 am & 12:00 p.m. I was coordinating the appointment on behalf of a loved one. Because the property owner doesn't live at the affected house, they traveled from another part of the city and rearranged their schedule specifically to meet the estimator. We also learned that the neighboring property we initially believed the tree had fallen from is vacant, making it even more important to determine responsibility and move the process forward. Unfortunately, no one arrived for the scheduled appointment, and there was no phone call, text, or Yelp message to let us know they were running late or needed to reschedule. We understand that delays and emergencies happen, but a simple courtesy message would have been appreciated. The lack of communication wasted people's time and delayed addressing a situation affecting multiple properties. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend a company that confirms an appointment and then fails to show up or communicate with the customer.

The problem is that Mike is a nice guy and all and seems trustworthy, but then never returned to stump grind one of the trees by the driveway. I called and email several times. I never received a return phone call or email. I have hired several other companies in the area for a commercial site and for other trees in our yard over the years. If I were you, I would pick a different company or withhold a lot of the money until you are 100% satisfied. very unprofessional to not at least return a call.

This is one of the worst experiences I ever had. Midstate Tree took full payment for removal and stump grinding of three trees, completed only tree removal on 12-17-2025, then abandoned the stump grinding job and vanished after getting paid in full. For reference: my work/contract with them is Proposal #2820, so they do not claim they cannot find me in their system as they always reply to other similar reviews from customers who shared the same exact bad experience (go see reviews on Yelp, Google, etc.); believe me these bad reviews/experiences are legitimate and truly reflect Midstate Tree's poor business and customer service as well as lack of communication with customers. The stump grinding was never done (see attached figures) despite repeated promises "they would come back in a few days", "they are waiting for the snow to melt/clear", and that I am "on their waiting list".  Since 12-17-2025, almost every single attempt to contact them by phone, text message, and email was ignored, especially by Mike (the owner/CEO). After he got paid in full, he stopped responding altogether. It has been more than 6 months now. What makes this even worse is that after multiple attempts to contact them, they scheduled to come finish the work on 04/14/2026, but I ended-up wasting my entire day waiting for them as they never showed up. No call. No apology. Nothing. Just total disrespect and complete disregard for their customer. Same thing happened again after the work got re-scheduled to 06/01/2026; they never showed up. I tried to contact Mike via phone, text, and email, but he kept on ignoring my unlimited requests to finish the work, and told me the machine is down and he has labor availability issues. I was understanding and patient. However, after re-scheduling the work to 06/20/2026, they also never showed up. Mike gave me the same execuse that the machine is down and informed me that I am no longer under contract (i.e., basically they decided to abandon their contractual obligations that I already paid them for in full). They cannot just decide to break the contract and get away with it, since they are legally obliged to either complete the agreed-on work or reimburse me the costs of having to hire another company to do it. I informed them that's what the court's decision would be if I escalate the issue and get it resolved in a legal rather than a friendly way. If they truly care about their customers, they could have either rented another machine to get the job done or apologized and told me that they will reimburse me the costs of having to hire another company to complete the work. This company clearly does not value honesty, accountability, and customer service. Once they have your money, don't expect communication, follow-through, or basic professionalism. Their behavior showed a complete lack of integrity and respect for their customers. They had no problem taking my money immediately, but once it came time to honor their agreement and finish the job, they disappeared. This is not how legitimate businesses operate. I gave them every opportunity to correct the situation privately before posting this review. Mike, his wife Angie, and their office secretary Stephanie (she is the most helpful) are aware of the problem, but Mike never cooperated to solve the issue in a friendly way. Instead, Mike ignored every attempt to communicate and get the issue resolved in an amicable way. At this point, I feel completely ripped off and forced to hire another company and spend even more money just to finish work that Midstate Tree was already paid to do. If you value your money, your time, and your sanity, stay away from Midstate Tree. There are many honest and reliable tree companies out there that actually honor their agreements and treat customers with respect, but Midstate Tree is not one of them. I would never trust Midstate Tree again and would NEVER recommend them to anyone.
