That's not what happened. The two man team that arrived were only told to remove low branches so they didn't bring a bucket truck. Then one of them talked me out of having as much removed from the tree as I initially wanted. On the end, I got an overpriced trim job. That will need to be looked at again in two years. As a business professional myself, I was immediately - suspicious of this questionable practice and contacted ISA - who issues licenses to all Arborist operating in the state of NJ - (Gavin is NOT a licensed Arborist) and I also contacted the NJ Tree Board Experts who both confirmed that although this franchise business is legitimate - (Outsourcing the use of a company that uses tree pesticides not licensed in the state of NJ, where they would be tree application, is an illegal practice). Gavin didn't have the professional courtesy to return two of my phone calls nor did he bother to follow up with me through his website client interest form, which is documented and forbids his assistant from providing his email address to potential and established customers, which was another red flag! I also contacted "Authority Brands" WHO Owns the Monster Tree Service Franchise about this encounter. This probably partly explains the negative reviews from others who have also had unfavorable encounters with this specific Monster Tree Service Franchise. This is quite unfortunate because Gavin initially seemed like a really nice easy-going guy, it's unfortunate that in the end he failed to conduct himself as a trusted professional. Initially, they indicated they could come out on Saturday, July 4, but the estimate was ultimately confirmed for Sunday, July 5, between 11:00 am & 12:00 p.m. I was coordinating the appointment on behalf of a loved one. Because the property owner doesn't live at the affected house, they traveled from another part of the city and rearranged their schedule specifically to meet the estimator. We also learned that the neighboring property we initially believed the tree had fallen from is vacant, making it even more important to determine responsibility and move the process forward. Unfortunately, no one arrived for the scheduled appointment, and there was no phone call, text, or Yelp message to let us know they were running late or needed to reschedule. We understand that delays and emergencies happen, but a simple courtesy message would have been appreciated. The lack of communication wasted people's time and delayed addressing a situation affecting multiple properties. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend a company that confirms an appointment and then fails to show up or communicate with the customer.

We signed a contract for $5k of work and paid a $500 deposit by check. The initial part of the…read moreproject was to remove two large hardwood trees and trim a pine tree, cut stumps to ground level, and cut all trees up into 16-18" lengths. We were responsible for picking up the pieces and splitting the wood. The second part of the project was to clear brush from about 0.5 acres. Like others, the quoting process was quick and cordial as the owner (Keith) and I had a beer on my porch. Like others, it then took numerous calls and 2.5 months for them to show up and begin work. The work was done piecemeal and numerous calls have been required. Finally, the trees were taken down to 3 ft stumps and some pieces of the tree were as long as 5 ft. At that point he demanded $1500 cash for the tree work with the $500 deposit still set aside for the brush clearing. I was not home at the time and another family member gave him the $1500 cash so he now had $2000 in total. We have called numerous times since then and Keith has returned some of those calls. We are now more than 4 months from the time we signed the contract. The stumps and uncut wood remain, the tree needs to be trimmed, and the brush clearing has not been started. We have asked for him to complete the tree work and return our $500 deposit for the brush clearing. He has done neither as of yet.
