We needed to get our RV smogged and found Econo Smog & Tune through Yelp. What a great experience. I called Eric beforehand to ensure he could smog check our RV and he confirmed he could perform the check. His location on Broadway was easy to find and he expertly marshalled us to park the RV where he could access the OBD2 port. The smog check went smoothly. He even helped us get out of the parking lot and onto Broadway. What was the unexpected bonus was meeting Eric. Eric was a genuinely nice individual and we enjoyed meeting and talking with him. He made the whole experience truly enjoyable. This business is a definite gem and we'll be back. Econo Smog and Tune in Needles, CA, is highly recommended. read more

Yeah, yeah I'm one of those driver's you see around Henderson and the surrounding areas with a California license plate, lol - cuz I'm from Cali! ;) It's that time again, where I needed a smog check in order to renew my CA registration. At first, I thought that I was going to have to make that trek of over 2.5 hours drive to Barstow, but after checking Yelp, Needles CA is soooo much closer (just 'bout 1 hour and 20 minutes from my door step, yes I was averaging 80 miles/hour) lol. With that said, it wasn't that hard of a decision to drive to Needles instead of Barstow. I left Henderson around 6:37a and arrived at the shop just shy of 8a. When I pulled up there was already a line! I walked in and was greeted right away, with whom I'm guessing is the owner. He had such a fun personality to him - so much that it seemed like he was always smiling! His side kick Brewer came out and got my paperwork started. After that they Eric, the owner began my smog check. What literally felt like 10 minutes, then boom.. I was done. Passed with flying colors. I felt like I sat down, only to get right up - that's how quick my smog check was. Paid for $78 and received my paperwork. All in all, I would hiiiiighly recommend THIS smog check spot if you're also a transplant from CA living in the Las Vegas/Henderson area who needs it for registration renewal. I was a bit nervous about making the drive down and doing this alone, but I felt very comfortable and everyone here is super nice! p.s. he gives out free koozie's like free gifts after you complete a service with him. Eric, thanks for also letting me kill a roach or two! That was fun! read more

Very fast. I arrived about 830a on a Thursday. Had two cars ahead of me, but I doubt I waited more than 15 minutes. More money than I'd like to spend on a Smog, but I'd rather pay the $72(?) than drive to Barstow or farther. Super nice guys. I was at the DMV about a mile down for less than 2 min. Incredibly friendly. Had to get a smog done for my cousins car. Called beforehand and he said he'd get me in and out within 30 minutes. Took him 13:46. Yes, I timed him. Why you ask? My cousin wanted us to go get food. I'm like no bro, we can wait. It'll be fast I promise. Cool looking shop. Very old school with the customer service you want every establishment to have. Bring you business here if you're told you can be helped. Car is 08. Paid $76 or $78. read more

Having a California registered automobile when you're living in Las Vegas can be rough. I remember the first smog check in Barstow, mainly for the long drive and for the uncomfortable waiting area. I was dreading a return to that town, but luckily I found this place instead. For me, the drive was not much more than an hour and a half, if that (compare two hours plus to Barstow). I'm pretty sure most people will find similar drive time savings, as well as dealing with fewer cars on the road. Also, I still had reception for Las Vegas radio stations for all but the last half hour to and from Needles. Maybe the only drawback was having to slow down when passing through a couple towns on the way, but at least you get some stretches of 75 mph speed limit. The owner of Econo Smog & Tune is a good guy, born and raised in Needles and a lifelong resident aside from an eight year period (he has grandkids now). He likes to chat you up, which makes you feel almost at home even though he might take a bit longer than if he just put his head down and did the job. That's good service though. He also offered water or soda, which I declined since the fans and my personal water bottle worked well enough. Sorry if I'm violating some sort of taboo here, but I've gotta report that it was a $78 smog check for my car (and for most vehicles too - it's $98 for mobile homes or heavy duty vehicles). I'm pretty sure that's the same price you'd get in Barstow, but the time and gas saved and the overall pleasantness of the experience is definitely as good as it gets when you're stuck in the desert. P.S. It's nice to look at the license plates on the walls, even if they're mostly not vanity plates. Check out the really old California plates if you stop by. read more

CLOSEST TO VEGAS SMOG CHECK **Yelp 100 CA Challenge 2016 #5** The owner is so NICE!! he is very talkative & keeps you entertained throughout the process. He is the only one there & he has learned that there are a lot of people coming from Vegas to get their smog check done while they are temporarily living out in Nevada. This is the closest location for a LICENSED smog check person. We were in & out within an hour even w/ other cars in before us. Everything w/ the service & labor came out to be $80 which is not bad considering its only a couple hours away from Vegas & we didn't even make an appointment which i thought was risky on our part but we got it done =] He even gave us a free cup sleeve thingy & a 2016 calendar ahahahha read more

While I was in Lake Havasu City, AZ, my friend and host needed to get his Suburban smog-tested for his CA sticker. So the closest inspection facility was in Needles, about an hour's drive north. Given what I know about Needles was from the Peanuts cartoon strip where Snoopy's brother, Spike, lived nearby. We found the shop facing the fabled Route 66. Along the same road was the tracks of CSX railroad which freight trains a mile long trundled past by. We found Eric, the owner, eating his frosted carrot cake in what it seemed the coolest waiting room in town. Temperatures hovered above 100 degrees but it was a mild 68 within the confines. My friend explains that the shop is using a swamp cooler rather than conventional a/c to chill the air. Eric gladly set aside his lunch and checked out the rig. He pointed to the stacks of sandbags near the garage door explaining that the shop was nearly inundated by a strong rain storm that overwhelmed a nearby culvert. For the next hour, he proceeded not only to explain to us how emission testing works but to tell us the history of his shop, the Navajo reservation's farm next door, Mrs. McKinley's famous beef jerky, and a slew of folkloric tales. You'd think Eric should be a professor at UC instead of a proprietor of a repair shop. But, there you go - life's funny that way. Life happens amongt the mundane. We soon were on our way - my friend was satisfied. In the meanwhile, customers were trooping by either picking up their vehicle or dropping them in. Some just wanted to chat or gossip what was going in town. I gathered that they were there just for the swamp cooler. read more
