Why the one star review? Because the owner/dispatcher just did not care. Sure, EcoHaul stiffed me twice, but that might have resulted in a 3 star review, maybe even 4 if they fixed the problem. They did not, and did not care. Just sent me a text message that read: "Your job has been canceled. Good luck." I had construction scheduled, and had scheduled in advance, they knew and I knew the junk had to be out of the way on a deadline. On their request, I sent photos in advance, and everything seemed good. I was clear up front it was a clutter pickup, outdoors, rusty stuff. The first day I waited through the entire three hour window, THEN the driver called to say he was stuck with a dead engine on highway 4 and would not make it. THEN I called dispatch who finally got back to me saying "oh, they're just waiting for a repair part, will unload in Berkeley, then get right to you". Of course they never showed. Driver also told me he had no briefing on what to expect to pick up. On the reschedule day the driver (same driver, Don) showed up, took one look at the pile of stuff, and said "no way". He bugged out, called me after leaving the property, I talked to him, he promised to come back, and I waited another hour. Then I got the above text message from dispatch. I tried to call back, reach Nick, but nobody would return my call. I called the well known national junk removal firm, and they were out in two hours with two trucks. Their recycling ethic was as good or better to what I heard from Eco Haul. And their stuff goes to a better sort line, where even more stuff is pulled out. And they beat EcoHaul's price just to rub it in (on purpose). EcoHaul has two theoretical advantages: a ecological story and a small company size. Neither advantage worked for me. They apparently have only two trucks, so when something goes wrong, customers are left stranded. But the reason I'll never call them again is the dispatcher/owner Chris did not care. Suffice it to say, I was relying on them to finish a job i needed doing today. I scheduled a two hour time frame for them to arrive and get the hauling done. I got a call 20 minutes into the time frame. The guy I spoke with was trying to find a way to not do what I had engaged them to do within the time frame. I had a really disappointing experience with EcoHaul. I sent them this feedback, and they never responded, so I'm sharing here now. If you see a "Will haul your junk!" truck parked on an isolated street nearby, you should definitely call that number before you hire Ecohaul. There are three specific reasons for this bad review: The Truck: We're on somewhat of a windy road with a very steep driveway. I didn't realize that the company had sold their trucks, and now instaed just rent large box trucks (which have different measurements than their pricing page quotes from). I felt bad that the driver was unable to back up into our driveway, after causing some minor damage (scraping) to get in position. 1 Person?: The pricing page indicates that the fee includes 1.5h of work with two people. This is key for larger items where one person would be insufficient or much slower. Unfortunately there was only one person on our job. Size / fee: I have no way of measuring or verifying the physical volume of debris that we had. The person that was here was able to load only half of the debris we had asked to be removed, and charged us the full fee. This was less than 1.5h of work for one person (vs 2), and somehow still costs us the maximum we were quoted. The person who came was very nice and did their best. However we dramatically overpaid for the service, especially when I still have half the debris left in my yard. There is no way that I'm paying double the fee for the remainder, so I've found an alternative. This all boils down to misaligned expectations. Every one of these negative points could have been addressed ahead of our scheduled service. Explaining the truck size issue, explaining the exorbitant fee, explaining why it's one person not two. But instead it's been radio silence and close to $1k to take a pickup trucks worth of debris away. Completely insane. read more

FYI: They are NOT environmentally conscientious. When I asked the short blonde haired one, Chris, how they planned to dispose my wardrobe he said they were going to take it to the dump. --THE DUMP!!! If I wanted it to go to a landfill then I wouldn't be paying $265 for your services!!! He's like it's junk, it's trash, it's pressed wood they can't do anything with pressed wood it's trash---DUDE ITS AMERICA!!! All of the furniture out here is pressed wood!! Are you kidding me right now????? Everything is particle board. Then the taller brunette, Christopher, tried to smooth things over by saying that it's also a large piece of furniture and they typically don't tend to have luck donating larger furniture pieces. Bless his heart; his mom raised him right. But that blonde Barney looking fella, Chris, needs a lesson in customer service. Not to mention Nick and Joel don't seem to communicate well. Joel quoted me one price and said Nick would schedule my pick up. Nick quoted me a different price that was more than Joel's quote. That should've been a warning flag but I disregarded it and moved forward with the appt. Warning flag number 2: I sent them the pictures of the items and was told someone would get back to me. Almost 2 weeks went by and hadn't heard a word so I called again. Got Nick, he apologized and scheduled my appt. Warning flag number 3: I had to reschedule the appt because the packers hadn't finished packing. Nick said it was cool and would re-schedule me for the following week. That ended up being incorrect. On the day of the pick up I called and got Joel who said the appt was actually for the next week. By this point I was pretty fed up and losing faith in this company so I start getting rid of some of the items myself. And only had 1 item for them to pick up: a large wardrobe The week of the pick up comes and Joel calls to say they need to reschedule me again because a larger job came up. I said no and asked to keep my appt. He said he would call his manager to see what can be done. A few minutes later he calls back and confirms they were all good and my appt won't be canceled. The driver would come betweeen 2-5 pm and I'm supposed to receive a call 30 mins before my pick up. A little after 4:30pm I get a call saying they're running a little bit late. I asked how late and the guy couldn't give me an answer and hangs up on me. Lo and behold Chris and Christopher show up an hour late at 6:06pm and by this point I'm pissed. Christopher, the taller one is a doll and gets right to work; Chris the shorter one is smug and rude and I'm not impressed. Anyway within 12 mins they have the wardrobe out of my apt and they're loading it into the truck. Literally they showed up at 6:06 and were done by 6:18pm Chris, the shorter one, then spends the next 20 mins dicking around. Seriously he was just standing by the Penske truck slowly writing out an invoice that literally only had 2 lines written on it. Me not thinking much of it I'm like ok since it's by cubic ft it shouldn't cost a lot. It took up less space than the minimum. WRONG!!!!! Chris says well it's $265 because they have to bill for at least an hour and an extra charge because they had to dissemble it---excuse me?? $265 to take off 2 doors and pull out the shelves??? Really ?? If I knew that then I would've dissembled it myself before they arrive. Oh wait it gets better!! Then Chris pipes up again and says that in addition to it being trash furniture they can't donate it because it's scratched up and chipped --oh you mean it's chipped from where you dragged it????!!!?? I found the chipped piece of it on the ground by the steps on my way back to my apt. My goodness!!! Avoid this company if you can. All of the negative reviews are true. Overall not satisfied--the only thing I was impressed with was their ability to move the item out of the apt so quickly and also I truly thought the tall brunette was a gem---that's the only reason why I'm giving them 2 stars instead of 0 stars. If you're looking for an actual environmentally friendly furniture removal service; then I would look elsewhere. Don't use these yutzes. Hell even if you're looking for a regular furniture removal service, I'd still look elsewhere. I've worked with better guys than them. read more

Total rip-off.. wish I had the nerve to say no thank you but paid $395 for just a few boxes.. one small crate and one medium crate. Plus a screen and a broken table. I should have just rented out a dumpster but was quoted 395. It's so much more worth it to get a dumpster. Also their time frame was 12-2... did not come till 415 and it took them about 10 minutes to throw the stuff in their rented truck. I'm renting a dumpster for the rest of my stuff to throw away. Did not want to give more money to these unprofessional shysters. Don't see how they got a 5 star rating. Wasted my afternoon waiting for them! I am giving the business a 1star rating only because their mission is to recycle/ repurpose. Otherwise, I would give them a minus 5. I am surprised they are in business given the terrible customer service. Stay away! Give your hard earned money to businesses that deserve it. While their mission to recycle and repurpose is great, customer service and basic morality is just terrible. After our pickup, Chris the manager called for the payment. When my wife asked him about the details, he treated her so wrongly. We have never come across someone so rude and unreasonable/ unprofessional like Chris. It was so easy! Went online and booked an appointment and got a call back confirming my day and time almost right away, even on a Sunday! The move was stressing me out and I was really wondering how to get rid of all that stuff you just don't know what to do with. Old Ikea furniture, random household things, junk, etc... they took it all. I am sitting in a nice empty room now. They were able to come early and were adaptable as I really underestimated how much junk I really did have. They were friendly, cheerful guys and made quick work of it all. I got a few confirmation calls from a real person and I never felt like I was going to be stood up. I wish I could give these guys more than 5 stars. They are amazing for hauling and rubbish removal. They gave me an estimate on the phone, stuck to the estimate, did bonus work (took out a dead tree, then mauled the stump for easier decomposition) and took extra stuff (they were able to take some extra wood and still stay within the dimensions of the load) AND they dispose of the refuse in an environmentally responsible manner (for wood, it either turns into compost or into firewood.) Oh, and they were also the best price of the 3 haulers I contacted. If you search these guys in San Francisco they are hard to find because their home base is in Petaluma. But they do serve San Francisco as well as the East Bay and if you find them, they are the folks you should use! read more

Really wish I could've gone with Ecohaul instead of the bigger entities like 1800GotJunk - their ratings on yelp seem great, but after two attempts to have them show up between 8am and 10am and having them fail to get to me in time (being told that traffic was bad the first time is one thing, but it's the bay area - if you can't make your slot because it's rush hour - don't make an appointment for the slot). I'll be going with a competitor now. I'd advise anyone going with Ecohaul to state clearly your time restrictions because they seem incapable of working within an order window. read more

I do not want to give a one star rating, but when I was given a window for pick up between 1 and 3 pm, and confirming pick up this morning they did not show up. I was initially concerned when I didn't receive a confirmation call on the Friday before or even this morning. So, I called the number on the website to confirm on the day of delivery and received a call back an hour or so later that my pick up was confirmed. I waited from 1-3pm and when I called at a few minutes after 3pm, I again had to leave a message. When they finally called back at 3:15 they said they were sorry but couldn't do the pick up that day. When I explained this put me in a bind as I had a delivery scheduled for the next day the man on the phone said they were fully booked for that day and the soonest someone could be out was Friday (and this was a Monday). I was able to talk to the company delivering my furniture and they were able to add on a pick up of the mattress, box springs, and frame - but at a higher cost. So, the reason for this one-star review is they didn't just not bother to call, but no-showed after confirming in the morning, and only told me they wouldn't make it out after I called them and by then it was too late in the afternoon to contact another company for pick up. read more

Very disappointed with EcoHaul and how our service (or lack thereof) went. First I contacted EcoHaul, shared the job, scheduled the work and sent them pictures of the haul. I was told a window for service and the estimate, that it was totally doable and that a "crew" is a part of the fee. Next they reschedule me the day before, no big deal...I rearrange my wife and I's schedule so someone can be here. Day of the job: my window for service is between 12pm-2pm. The hauler shows up at 3:30pm. Says he is only one person, can't do the job, it would take him too long (he's gotta get to another job... what about my job I scheduled??) and then leaves. I've received no follow up request for reschedule, or anything. I won't be attempting to use this companies service again. read more

Honestly, if I could give 0 stars I would. I rarely ever write reviews - and never ever in my life a bad review. Eco haul did work for us last week - they left mid way and said they would come back to grab the rest of the stuff in an hour. Mind you, I was there the entire time and actually helping haul myself and throwing stuff into the truck. All in all it was about 30 minutes total - super nice guy - finished fast, have him card number and it was over. Everything good Until I get calls the following weekend about how the card I gave didn't go through. I happened to be at the hospital at the time and was planning on calling back and seeing what the issue is first thing Monday - which I did. Chris - the owner- answered the phone - and I have never in my life dealt with such an immature unprofessional person. I completely understood the frustration from them worried about not being paid but I was on the phone to pay them, apologized for the late call back, and said I wanted to take care of it. His responses were rude, he tried to charge us more for labor costs and when we asked why he said that over 1.5 hours of time will cost more - I told him I was there and it was less than 30 minutes and I just want to understand exactly why it would cost more. The responses I got were unbelievable - he yelled, said "Jesus!" All the time and just would not let me get a word in. Overall, the work was done but the owner acts like a 19 year old - the MOST unprofessional company I have ever dealt with in my life! read more

I had absolutely no problem scheduling or reaching Ecohaul so it seems they have fixed the front office problem people have complained about. I had 2 large wall to wall rugs and 4 bedrooms of junk to dispose of when my Aunt went into Assisted living. A debris box would have been $500 and in this neighborhood (Polk gulch/Cow Hollow) your neighbors will fill it up before you do! Plus I would had to haul the stuff up and down a flight of stairs by myself. For $630 two very nice, very strong guys came and loaded very box, bag and item into the truck for me. They also took the 2 sets of mattresses (which were $15 additional disposal fee since the dump charge them). That $130 differential was nothing given the wear and tear on my body that would have happened. They were done in 2 hours and before they left, their supervisor came by in another truck as I suspect they were concerned all my junk wouldn't fit into one truck! But it did all fit in one. Great experience, will definitely use them again for my next big clean out/clean up job read more

This should be negative 5. They failed to do the scheduled job siting concern that the mirror on their truck might get damaged - so it was unsafe. And the owner became very angry and kept on talking over me when he cancelled the job. when i tried to talk he literally hung up as I was talking. I made a reservation on the phone. told them the drive way was steep and narrow. I told him a 10 foot side truck had been up it that week and a month ago a 12 foot wide truck from the wood chipper came up without a problem. (EcoHaul's truck is 8 feet wide.) We do have trucks come up quite a bit and never before had an issue. They were late but that is not the problem. The driver said something about it tipping over which I did not understand since the driveway is completely level - there is no way he would tip over. So after a very long period of driver talking to the owner, the owner said they would not do the job. i paid people to come pull everything in the morning and I took the day off work. The owner became very angry when I told him I had expended money and a day off work, and he just simply hung up on me. I had my neighbor - who is in construction, check out the driveway and said he didn't understand the issue, he would have no problem coming up that driveway with a wide truck. This company cost me a day off work and what I paid to have the garage pulled out in the morning. read more

EcoHaul has some great feedback, and rightfully so: I gave them a call, got a quote far below their usual minimum price, and found out that one of their drivers, Chris, was already dispatched somewhere in my area and could drop by within minutes. These guys were great - I had 50 years of junk and debris in the old shed in my back yard, and they busted their butts hauling load after load of screws and tools and tile and crap out to their truck. Then they scooped up a truck's worth of yard debris and put that in there for composting. Then they hauled all the junk out of my attic, shuttled it down to my yard, and got that in there, too. And THEN they pulled out my old,. non-functioning washer-dryer, and took those off. Helped a friend sell his home in San Jose. Had a garage and shed full of various items ranging from useful (in the right hands) to trash. Saw all of the positive ratings in Yelp and decided to give EcoHaul a call along with two other strong contenders. EcoHaul offered the best cost range estimation, the soonest date, and the most pleasant staff. After scheduling the service we realized there was a loft full of junk to remove, too. Called back and they arranged to handle the increase with no problem. The pair of workers arrived when expected, determined the volume was at the low end of the estimation, and finished the job FAST! Felt good knowing the stuff wasn't going straight to a landfill, but instead being re-purposed as able. And the icing on the cake? The workers were genuinely having fun and enjoying each others company while they worked. Cheerful is an understatement. I'll hire EcoHaul again. read more

I would leave a minus three stars if I were able. Two young gentlemen showed up for a job I submitted to Nick (customer service rep) online, totally unprepared for a hot tub/gazebo removal and some additional yard debris. I was asked to submit photos of the job so they could plan ahead on the scope of the project. They came with no tools, nothing. I let them take the lumber debris (I had already partially dismantled some of the decking to save time/money) and some patio furniture etc. since they were already there. Was on the phone with Chris (customer service) and just got tired of listening to excuses on why the job won't be completed as expected. Will never, EVER recommend this company to anyone. These guys are rock stars! I have hired them many times--hauling away over 20 tones of debris from my backyard through a tiny San Francisco garage back door. These guys were amazing. They'd show up and shovel all the dirt or whatever it was into 5 gallon buckets and haul it out with a little production line- 20 tons at least. Great at making appointments and very nice to boot. I'm a professional organizer and I love EcoHaul! I work with them every chance I get. I used to work with another big hauler but the truth is that the EcoHaul guys and gals are so darn pleasant that I feel much more comfortable inviting them into my clients' houses. I even schedule them to come when I'm not there because I'm completely confident that the EcoHaulers will interact professionally. The best part though is that my clients have a much easier time getting rid of things when they know they're going to a good place. With EcoHaul, I know that's true. They donate everything they can, recycle the rest and only take stuff to the dump when they have absolutely no other alternative. Plus, they come and get whatever you want to give away from wherever it is in your house. That means that you don't have to collect and lug the stuff down to one pick up spot. Just point them in the direction and they'll climb the stairs. (They once had to go up and down 92 stairs to a client's attic for me and they barely broke a sweat!) Their website makes it extra easy to schedule your pickup. I'm a big fan. read more

On the whole, I'd have to say this was a mixed experience. First of all, the actual haulers were _terrific_; friendly, smart, helpful, considerate, and fast. That counts for a lot. However, the company ignored my original concerns about what needed to be donated rather than recycled (and later criticized me for not stating those concerns clearly enough, when they were the subject of my original Yelp request). In the kindest and sounding-like-reasonable-people tones, they completely dismissed my concerns about truck sizing and pricing, so that we ended up having a conversation that on the face of it seemed like I was working with people who wanted to pay attention and work with me, but those people gave absolutely no ground, and patronized me into the bargain. As a result, the final price was higher than I think it should have been, or than they led me to believe it would be. Also, there seem to be two principal men involved on the phone and by email and Yelp, and I think they don't talk to each other. At the very least, there were several times where one of them said something which the other contradicted. I would have liked this to be a better experience. read more

I would highly recommend EcoHaul for anyone remodeling their home. In the process of trying to restore our home, we had to replace many areas of wooden siding, some exterior beams and do a lot of other work that left us with quite a front yard full of stuff. I really did not want to send all of these components that were partially re-useable to the landfill. It was so nice to call ecohaul and know that our rubbish and project scraps would be disposed of properly or reused. The service was fantastic and the team who came to load were so nice. Awesome service! When I lived in San Francisco, I used to have these guys drop by once every 3 or 4 months to help us unload our junk. When you live in SF, you know how helpful it is to have someone come and do this for you. These guys are always ON TIME, HELPFUL, AND SMILING. :-) On a few occasions I've needed last-minute service and they were there and ready. My only 1 small complaint (and the reason for 4 stars and not 5 stars) is they refused to take some paint products on their last pick up. After being stood up by the last hauling company, I found these guys also on Yelp. I was previously traumatized by my last experience with another company and I wasn't sure what to expect this time. Surprisingly, Chris responded to my email immediately and I followed up with several calls with Dorian. I sent them pictures of the work I needed done and they were quick to respond with an estimate. Dorian himself came to my house with another guy, (sorry, I didn't get his name), and they were both very efficient and fun guys. All of the stuff hauled away was yard related and they came prepared with a chainsaw, and wheel barrel. One invisible star removed for the time it took to set up a time. I sent an email on 12/28, to which I did receive a response from Ethan, who sent me an attachment of prices, etc. So when I replied that I was interested and wanted to set up a time, he didn't respond. I called the next day and left a message. Still no response. Called again two days later, I finally spoke with someone who could get a truck out to San Jose this past Friday. I didn't know they weren't local, but it wasn't a big deal. They were happy to accommodate my payment by phone, since I'd be at work during the appointment window. Dan and Max came to my house and met with my son, and took the stuff and were out of there right away. I think they were also thankful that we had all of the junk ready for them outside. They hooked me up with the Yelp discount also. Nice guys. Good service overall. I'd go with Ecohaul again. Love, Love, LOVE these guys. Had the WORST time trying to get Salvation Army to come pick up some donations. In fact, we scheduled pick-ups with SA three times - they didn't show up for any of them. Finally called Eco-Haul because the stuff I wanted to donate was useful and ready to be repurposed - not put into landfill. They were very timely, courteous and efficient. It turns out a bunch of people in my former building decided to add their crap to my pile of donations, but Dorian from EcoHaul said it would be no problem to take that stuff as well. No crying. No headaches. No injuring myself to move stuff. No assault on the senses or the planet with trips to the dump. Very reasonably priced, and I am relieved that the stuff will be sorted out, reused and repurposed. I love the ethos of this company and their professionalism. Just moved in with my fiancee, and they helped us get rid of our extra possessions. The good: The folks who actually do the hauling are *great*. They took everything, handled it professionally, and were friendly and courteous. What would have been a huge chore went quickly. Their price estimate was fair and accurate. The less-good: The support from the office is not great. They aren't good at picking up the phones (I kept leaving them messages). On pickup day, they called my work number (I wasn't at work, duh, I was moving) and my *new* apartment number, but not my cellphone (I got all the messages the next day...), even though when I left all those messages with the office, I'd told them to call me on my cell. Also, their estimated time of arrival is just an estimate. They were pretty good about giving updates when they knew the time better (they do several jobs with one truck run, so a lot depends on how each job goes), but of course, that depends on them calling the right number to let you know... So, it's not a bad idea to schedule them on a day when you can do other chores (like pack the stuff you're not dumping). Still, a good experience! We'll use them again when we've finished sorting the stuff we moved but shouldn't have. ;-) read more
