We stayed 1 night in a camping pod in May 2013.
Camping pods are set up in a field close to the owners house, with a nice view on the countryside. They are big (can easily fit 5 people) but have no equipment inside, except from mattresses (comfortable) on the floor and fleece blankets. There is also a little heating, and the pods are very well insulated so you don't feel cold at all.
The common room (bothy) is situated in a small building next to the owner house. It's a very warm and welcoming room with wooden and stone walls, comfortable sofas, a wood burning stove (a blessing, even in may!), and a few tables and chairs.
The owners are very concerned about ecology, so there are no "unnecessary" electrical appliance: no oven or microwave, no hot plates. If you want to cook you can try to use the wood stove or you can rent a portable gas stove for £2 (we chose the second option). Everything you need to cook is provided (pans, plates, cutlery...).
Of course, you have to respect waste sorting and use compost for your organic waste.
You can also order in advance a dinner and / or a breakfast. Everything is homemade and the products use are locally produced and when possible organic. We tried the breakfast, it was a bit expensive but delicious (£3.5/pers for a small round bread filled with egg and bacon).
The owners where really nice and welcoming. We were their only guests that night and they stayed a bit with us for a chat around the wood stove. They can give you advice on the things to do in the surroundings.
We really enjoyed our time here, the place is great and we liked the "green attitude" of the owners. But the fact is, like every time something is more ecological and ethical, it is also more expensive (camping pod was £45 for 2 people). But it worth the difference! read more
