The beach area was beautiful! Not very crowded and clean. The light house had a beautiful view, but they don't limit how many people go up so it got very crowded at the top. There also were some ruins along the road which were cool to see! There was a little nature trail that went back to a pond with crocodiles. But be warned there were lots of mosquitos! Definitely worth going, very reasonable entrance fee with lots to see.

My travel mates and myself took a Jeep tour that incumpased most of the Island. One stop was Eco Park. This stop is very scenic so remember to bring your cameras. We opted to keep our Jeep covered and were grateful, the road to the park is unpaved and very dusty. In this area is a beautiful light house, museum, a few small vendors and tequila tasting. It truly is a beautiful spot.

The park is $15 US a person. The website says they take credit cards, but the internet was down when we arrived. We beg them to run the card because we were low on cash. We begged them 3x and finally they ran the credit card and it worked. Be mindful of the internet down and pay cash. The roads are not that bad, you do not need a Jeep or off-road vehicle, but you do need to be a cautious driver and drive slowly and mind the occasional pothole and drive around or take some bumps at a angle. I did not stop to see the crocodile area because seen enough of those in Florida. I bypassed the lighthouse on the way into go directly to the beach at the very end. The beach is very calm and peaceful. Chairs and umbrellas are provided and it is very peaceful and not a lot of people earlier in the day. There are nice bathrooms for changing and make sure to tip the bathroom lady. Initially, the water is chilly, but once your body adjusts you are okay. Wild raccoons roam the beach are and if you leave your stuff, the raccoon will go through your things. They are roaming and will go under your seat that you have to swat them away. The beach has HORRIBLE and I mean HORRIBLE sand fleas that jump all over you and you can see and feel them biting you. They are swarming you. It is just too much and if I was not in the water, the Sand fleas are swarming your body and all in your face that you cannot lay down in peace. I had to leave after being in the area for 45 minutes. $15 for 45 minutes and being eaten my Sand fleas not a good deal. On the way back we stopped at the Lighthouse. It was less crowded than when we arrived. We climbed to the top and if you are not in good shape or medium size, do not recommend. The lighthouse is one way up and down. If someone is coming down while you go up, you need to be comfortable with a total stranger possibly touching you to allow them to squeeze by you. Leave your backpack in the car. The very top there is a sign to mind you head, seriously pay attention because the opening is very narrow. Then you need to crawl down to squeeze through an opening to get on the exterior of the light house, but then the view is quite lovely. It is small area which does not allow for much time to explore as other people are coming up.

This place consists of mainly three areas: Swamp with crocs (real crocs, no kidding!), a lighthouse (very tight lighthouse that once you get to the top you will have to squeeze to get back down), and a beach. The most important attraction that you will "feel" at this place are: "the mosquitoes." You thought crocs would scare you, but no. Mosquitoes in here are in abundance, they will definitely bite you and annoy you to death. Even if you used mosquitoes repelent you would still get stung by those annoying insects. Be warned!

My tour van stopped at the Punta Sur Eco Beach Park while circling around the island of Cozumel. Basically, this is just another destination along the coastline where you can stop and enjoy the fact that you're resting on a beach on a Caribbean Island in Mexico. What an awesome way to relax. You can expect the location to be fairly remote and for the beach to be sandy and rugged. For reasons that are still unclear to me, there were a bunch of short metal poles sticking up from the sand in the beach, so you'd probably want to make your way around those. Unfortunately, this place isn't very big and it doesn't boast very much to do here. There is a "bar" here, though it's much more like a tourist shop run by like three people. They also claim to be open 25 hours; they never specified that was in a day, so I guess that's technically possible. I wouldn't wander out into a remote beach like this in the middle of the night, though.

Super fun adventure! The lagoon ride was so fun, and we saw a bunch of island creatures. The only downside was the businesses in the park require payment to use their beach chairs and stuff, even though you already have to pay to get into the park. read more

The park has a lot to offer if you're an explorer and like to site see. Unfortunately, I went on a windy day so was not able to enjoy any snorkeling (not the park's fault). The boat ride was short and sweet - saw one big croc. There's a variety of wildlife to observe, a trail to walk thru the forest, and a couple observation towers. The light house was fantastic! The museum under was nicely put together, however if you're a history buff, you'll need to be able to read Spanish fluently. Many areas to stop along the road and walk the shoreline. I rented a vehicle and was on my own terms to do what I wanted when I wanted - highly recommend. The only reason I gave a 4 stars instead of 5 is because the road is long and from beginning to end it is absolutely treacherous! It cost me $22.00 USD to enter. read more
This "eco park" might claim to be something special but it feels like just another beach operation in Cozumel but a longer drive away from San Miguel than other beach parks. Fee of $15 per person is high for what you get. And beware of the "credit card terminal scam." We experienced what others reported- claims the credit card terminal was down. The entry guy insisted on cash. We said we had no cash and politely begged for him to try one time. Sure thing- it suddenly worked and we paid with our credit card. The owners should fire their embezzling employees and implement the most basic accounting system internal controls! What does your $15 actually purchase? Access to a 4 km dirt road providing various stops- swampy crocodile viewing area, light house, beach access with chairs, umbrellas, and bathrooms. Beaches are infested with insects and bold raccoons. We got bite by bugs while sitting on the beach chairs. Beaches- nice sand, calm water, great area for kids Snorkeling- calm snorkeling, nothing really to see but some old dead coral, sea grass, and a few fish. I went out about 300 meters and didn't see much interesting. Beware- there are some small jellyfish when you get out past 100 meters from shore. Bathrooms- fairly clean bathrooms Showers- outdoor showers with very poor water pressure Beach Staff- present to sell food and drink. Will tolerate bringing your own water. Lighthouse- nice views from the top, but WATCH YOUR HEAD on the way up! If you're heavy, don't go up the lighthouse. read more

I visited and it wasn't what I expected -- it was quite anti-climatic for me. First of all, I highly recommend anyone going, to drive a car to the park since their dirt road to the beach is extremely bumpy with small potholes everywhere! Also, they rave about how there are 350 crocodiles in their swamp but every day they only get about 2-3 and when I went, there was only 1 UNDER the bridge. I was there for about 45 minutes, hoping that more would come but nope. There is a wooden tower you can walk up to see more of the swamp but there weren't crocodiles for miles! It was very disappointing! One of the main reasons why I chose to come here was to see the baby sea turtles! I highly recommend anyone to only come here in August -- that's when they have programs to have a guide help you release baby sea turtles. When we went, they were still in their nest so it wasn't exciting since it was just a big hole in the sand. I would only recommend this place for people to come visit in August for the baby sea turtles -- there isn't really that much to do here except for their beaches and probably snorkeling and to NOT see flamingoes and crocodiles. Their beaches are quite beautiful though but all beaches in Cozumel are beautiful so not missing much. read more
WE LOVED PUNTA SUR! We sat on swings by the ocean. Relaxed in hammocks. Saw iguanas and raccoons! It is so beautiful and quiet escape from the hustle of the cruise ship part of the island. Do not miss this spot!! read more

Usually we go to Playa Palancar when we are in Cozumel but this time we decided to check out Punta Sur and I'm glad we did. The beach here is beautiful! It's $16 USD per person, and on a Monday in January it wasn't very crowded. We skipped the ecotour and the lighthouse and went to the end of the park where the beaches are. We found a beautiful beachclub, nearly deserted and with amazing food and reasonable prices. It even had giant beach pillows to lay out on. There were some restaurants a little further on but they weren't nearly as good and the beach chairs were old and gnarly. They had no electric so no frozen drinks... and the prices were very high. If you do go, be choosy about which restaurant you go to- they are all unmarked little bungalow style establishments with hammock seats at the bar. The one we went to closest to the parking lot on the right and the food wasn't good, and drinks were on the rocks only. I highly recommend going to the beach club instead. The beach was beautiful and clean, the water was warm and clear. We will definitely return! read more

The Southern tip of Cozmel, the Punta Sur Eco Beach offers a plethora of sights and sounds! We were on a private jeep tour and entered the park easily with our very prepared guide- and headed straight for the Celerain Point Lighthouse at the South-Eastern tip. His advice- watch your head- well, that was a bit of an understatement! But we did mind out heads and made it to the top for an amazing view of the breathtaking waters all around us. The waves crashing on the rocky beach, the lagoon behind us with over 240 acres of natural preserve! The wildlife teaming everywhere! Once we made it down, we were surprised to have a large iguana meet us in the parking lot (the first sight of many in the park!)! Next up was the navigation museum! I couldn't resist walking out to the beach which was just steps away! The formations along the beach were alive with snails and crustaceans. We then headed to the Mayan shrine to Ixcel- an exceptional small building that was built as a storm warning system to the surrounding village! Our guide explained the architecture behind this treasure of history. Onward to spot some crocs! There is a boardwalk and overlook of the lagoon- I don't recommend the tower- it didn't look sturdy enough for my croc bait bottom! But we were able to spot a couple crocodiles without climbing! It can be a bit buggy- if you are spending any time, you may want some bug spray! I honestly wished we could have spent more time here- I was hoping to snorkel here, but with the weather, we went to the Western side for a more sheltered swim. read more

If you are looking for nature while on Cozumel, and are willing to snorkel away from sore a bit (it is safe), then you should visit Punta Sur. I have never had problems with mosquitoes here, though I'm sure if you are in the right spot (no breeze) it could be a problem. If I go to the lagoon, I wear sleeves and I spray a lot of Deep Woods Off on myself. I tend to go up the tower first to bird watch (bring binoculars, there are various herons, flamingos (though they are not always there) & crocs) and then to the beach to snorkel. You can get a beer cheap at the beach, like $1, but this is like going to a national park, not Club 21. You can stop at any of 15 beach clubs on the way home to eat, drink, etc. (both the wild side and the developed side have them; First timers to Cozumel should try: On the wild side, Coconuts, on the developed side, Money Bar). We love Punta Sur, but don't go if you are looking for the planned-out tourist thrill; you will get that experience at the water parks and places like Chankanaab. If you want real nature, and are willing to snorkel out half a mile from the beach to the buoy markers they have on the reef, then you will enjoy the experience. Do bring mosquito repellent if you plan to go to the lagoon and look for American crocodiles, the species that is on Cozumel. One tip: If you plan to snorkel in Cozumel, you can do it from the many beach clubs as well. You must either order a drink and a snack, or pay $10. Check out "Cozumel Shore Snorkeling" for the many locations. Get an bright-colored inflatable BC/life vest, reasonably thick booties, and a mask and snorkel before you come. At Punta Sur you will need to rent fins, elsewhere, you don't need them. This is a great way to spend your day, exploring the beach clubs and Punta Sur. But NEVER snorkel on the wild side, except for the one protected pool area at Chen Rio. People die every year because they ignore this advice. read more

This place is awesome (we went there twice) and you will be taken care of!!! I owe credit to the staff and workers of this place along with the "green angels (the equivalent to AAA / ADAC)". Our scooter broke down 2km past the entrance gate and these guys were to the rescue. The frame of the scooter popped out of place making the scooter un-drivable but these guys took the scooter apart and put it back together and we back on the road in the matter of no time. These guys who helped us were very nice and turned a bad day in to a better day!!! A huge thank you to the 4 gentlemen who got all dirty to help some stranded strangers out!!! This goes to show there are caring people who work here... But the park is an all day adventure but worth it. The snorkeling is great, just swim from the red buoy to the white one. Swimming to the beach to the buoy is around 200-300 meters but it is totally worth it when you get there just make sure you have fins they make the swimming easier, they also have gear for rent. Every hour they have free tours of the lagoon where you can see the the crocodiles that live in the lagoon. The crocodiles come close to the boat and the tour is 30-45 min. read more

We stayed at a condo in town but rented a car for two days. One of the days we came here. We spent 4 hours on the beach; the sand is lovely and there were lots of chairs and palapas. The water is clear and there are a few shells and coral in the beach. There are two floating mats our teen boys enjoyed sliding on and pushing each other off. There is an area where the floor is mushy (feels like you're walking in pudding) and a few rocks. Several people snorkeled (a ways out from shore, life jackets required); we did not. Could also rent SUP and sea kayak. They offer massages. We got our included lemonade and split nachos $10/plate) which were large and good. There are clean bathrooms both at the beach and by the lighthouse. We stopped and saw the crocodile; nice guide told us about it. Spent some time also at the light house and museum there. Both were with the stop! Amazing island view and interesting light. read more

This is a great place for nature lovers to go to enjoy the scenery. But make sure to be prepared with lots of bug spray and make sure your car can handle tougher roads because it is a very bumpy ride to get to the lighthouse with lots of holes and when it rains it doesn't make it any easier. But besides that there are lots of things to do like look at the Mayan ruins, walk the bridges to see the real crocodiles and breathtaking views of lots of different shades of clear blue water!!! read more

This is an absolutely gorgeous spot!! It is totally worth the visit...there is a cool lighthouse, crocodiles, and one of the best beaches on the island! My review will concentrate mainly on the beach/snorkeling as that is how my family spent most of our time at the park. First, a word of caution: When on the road to the beach (the far west end of the park) DO NOT STOP at the first beach access area!!! This is a for profit establishment called Pepitos, who will totally take advantage of tourists!!! They charged us $7/person for life jackets (which are required by the park to snorkel) that the park provides for FREE at the next beach access area. The snorkeling is amazing but you have to swim about 150 yards out against the current. So worth it though! We saw a nurse shark, lobsters, and schools of large parrot fish. Go past the seagrass fields -it is worth the effort!! The beach is gorgeous with an area of hammocks and beach loungers. The snack bar there has the best food and coldest beer too! read more

Small beaches, white sand. Gets busier in the afternoon. Swimming OK, snorkeling, not worth the effort since there are basically no fish here. A bit over priced for what you get here. read more
