She told me she could do it, but unfortunately, it became clear during the haircut that she did not know how to achieve the style. She cut my hair short and then tried to use a hairdryer and comb to make it look like the pictures, but it did not work. I showed her the reference photos again and asked if she could get help from someone else. She asked a colleague, who showed her how to cut the style, but she still seemed unsure how to do it. Eventually, the owner had to step in and finish the haircut for me. For a long-hair haircut that cost about $100 total ($85 for the haircut plus a $15 tip), I was very disappointed with the experience. At this price point, I expected the stylist to be able to achieve the hairstyle she had confirmed she could do, or to be upfront from the beginning if it was outside her expertise. Unfortunately, based on my experience, it was not worth the price or time.

when i say my sister and i only let gary do our hair, i LITERALLYY mean we fly all the way from LA to SF JUST to let gary work his magic!!! my sister has been coming to him for over 5 years and today was my first time! to say that i am impressed is an understatement. i don't write yelp reviews often but i had to this time because i am truly so grateful to have worked with gary! i booked an appt at the salon today for bleach and tone. i haven't gotten anything done for more than a year now and was very hesitant on bleaching my head again b/c i've had such poor experiences throughout LA!! right away, i was blown away by the amount of care and attention gary gave. it was the first time that someone actually took the time to explain each step of the bleaching and toning process. i felt very involved in the process.... and very in control of the outcome/final hair color. gary was also so so so patient with my hair..... he really made sure that i would get my desired outcome (as light and icy as possible) while maintaining the structure and integrity of my current hair. i cant really emphasize this part enough. he took the time to bleach different sections of my hair separately and multiple times if needed....this is so diff from my experiences at other salons (normally just bleach the whole head 1-2x and call it a day). he also uses very high quality products (not every salon does) i spent 8 hours at the salon but those 8 hours were SO worth it. my hair is still so shiny and thick... no sign of breakage any time soon. i'm so happy with the results, i never imagined that my hair could get this light with just ONE session!! guys, gary is the hair god. if you're hesitating at all, DONT! go book your appt now! you won't find anyone that is as caring, kind, patient, and detail-oriented as gary. he works so extremely hard and my experience at eclipse today was just so special. i will fly back to SF any day to see gary and have him do my hair again. i strongly believe that trust is a very important factor when choosing a salon. it's safe to say that i completely trust gary and his staff... he has over 20 years of experience and there is nobody out there that is more qualified than him! gary if you're reading this - thank you! you're the best! i am loving my new color and cut.... i hope to see you soon :) read more

I discovered Eclipse during a walk on Polk Street on Sunday. I've needed a haircut for a long time. Something made me stop, and walk back to stand and watch in the window for a bit. Then I went inside and Gary greeted me. Before long I had an appointment for today. I have beautiful gray hair that is thinning and fine. My hair was so long I could practically sit on it and my friends were calling me Rapunzel as Senior Citizen. Gary and his staff were efficient and gracious. First I had a shampoo, and comb out . Then Gary and I discussed my hair and my wishes, and he shared his thoughts on the best cut. He then went to work and with a confident expertise, created a simple shoulder-length bob. And then another wonderful man blew out my hair. Gary did a last tour of the cut with his scissors to fine-tune it into perfection. I walked out a new woman, having been given the best in a cut and personal service. I've already made my appointment for my next visit in July. After I saw the reviews on Yelp, I went to this place and looking for Gary. I'm 100% sure this is a big mistake in my life. At first, I told him I want to color my hair and he suggested me to change darker tone because is better to cover my gray hair. so I totally agree what he said and he had a shampoo girl applied the color on my hair. The result came out is horrible. Color was too light and not completely cover my gray hair, also the product they used on my hair is extremely cheap and made my hair so dry!!! Before he blow dry my hair, he spray a lot of leave in condition on my hair cause he try to recovery the cheap product they used on my hair. Also the way he blow dry my hair is crazy, she kept pulling my hair so hard and I felt like my hair will come off!!!! I was very disappointed because their lousy job. I just moved to the area about two months ago, and i have a shorter cut that i have to maintain...anyhow, my hair was looking very shabby. So i did my research on yelp looking for a salon close by to my house and eclipse is just one street from my house. (Perfect!) I called and got an appointment that very same day. Gary was very quick with his cutting and his technique was unbelievable...He was very reassuring the entire time i was sitting in the chair, and he was confident in what he was doing.. Gary is amazing! He worked me into his very busy schedule within a week. He came in two hours earlier than opening to start my hair appointment. At a different salon, I received a poor highlight job and thought no one could fix it. With Gary's expertise, it was easy for him to resolve. He was so receptive to any thoughts I had. He told me to be brutally honest because he wanted to make my hair to look exactly how I wanted it. He provided input on what would look good as well. The color correction using color melt, babylights, and balayage turned out wonderfully and I couldn't be more thankful! Very reasonably priced for great professionalism and kindness! I have been looking for a great/decently priced salon in SF for the past 5 years. My boss actually referred me to Gary and I could not be more glad that she did. I have been trying to grow out my hair for some time now and hadn't had a cut in over a year. I know, it was bad. I had my hair cut here a couple of weeks ago. The stylist was very friendly and listened to what I wanted. I left feeling soooo much better about my hair, and it felt so much healthier. My hair had previously been really dry at the ends andI bout a couple shampoos and products that he reccommended and they seem to be helping to. I was confused at first because it's one salon that has several different smaller businesses inside with sliding glass doors. I walked in and was offered a drink immediately. I had an appointment with Brandon and 4pm. I walked in at 4 and he was still working on the person before me. I was okay with that because he was taking his time to make sure the customer was satisfied and he only took an extra 7-10 minutes. I've been getting my hair done at a $15 place and thought that I needed to get it nicely done this time around especially since I haven't gotten my hair cut in 7ish months. First off, he took time and washed my hair was superior products than what I use. Although, I think everything has to be better than a giant tub of Costco brand shampoo and conditioner. I got side swept bangs and a little bit of layering in the front. He also did a dry cut after to make sure everything was beautiful. He also gave me great tips on how to keep my hair pretty and natural. The cut is expensive for me but it was completely worth it. He took his time and I came out with a professional looking cut. Long cuts are $80. Because I was a first time customer, Brandon's partner and business associate gave me a 20% discount. I saw 3 returning customers there during my cut.
