I give this 5 stars in the 'Used Books' category. This is the MacDaddy of used books stores. The type of place that requires a slow morning... wander through and allow your eyes to casually rest on a title.

DAMN do I want to give this five stars. So badly. I made a special trip out here from Seattle on my day off. Simply because I wanted to visit this amazing store.. just look at some of the pictures.. amazing! You will be overjoyed and overwhelmed at the endless shelves and stacks of books everywhere. A book lovers dream! There is something about stacks of books on the floor.. EVERYwhere on the floor that is so satisfying. You can get lost in a store like this. Unfortunately that is also the downfall of this place if you are looking for something specific. I went in with a bucket list of maybe six books and could not find any of them. I am certain that at least half of my list wasn't there since I did find the author's location on the shelves.. but it is not organized in the best of ways. For example, there is no section dedicated to biographies. If you want a biography, it is categorized under "subject" but even then I think it is hard to find anything. The woman working was very nice in trying to guide me in the right direction; lots of the biographies she seemed to know for sure would be under US History (generals, presidents, etc) but there was another section for literary biographies.. anyway, it was confusing. The shelves and sections are labeled poorly (if at all) so you will end up wandering whether you want to or not. Perhaps that is the upswing of this place.. it is fantastic for drowning out the outside world and getting lost in books and books. Two floors of floor to ceiling books! Lots of mass market paperbacks one floor down. I think the more popular items will be hard to find... but I found myself a gem of a book! Just as I was about to give up! Items are very reasonably priced. I think it's worth the journey. After all, Eclipse did make the PNW section of a trivial Buzzfeed article on 44 Great American Independent Bookstores.......

Best bookstore! Huge selection...fun finds for all! Located in beautiful downtown Fairhaven-Bellingham next to darling shops and restaurants/bar/cafe/park/beach boardwalk. Fun fun fun!!

Great selection of used books! Staff is helpful and the prices are reasonable. If you consider yourself a book person, then you'll go hog wild here! (Do pigs read?) I couldn't help but look through the piles of books off the book shelves. I found what I was looking for and like a typical bibliophile, I found more.

As a serious collector one of my favorites. Often gives me a little bit off the marked price.

I recently moved to Bellingham and Village Books (and paper dreams) actually really swayed me to move here. Its a book palace, 3 stories of well organized selection. The front facing books are well chosen, and the used books are interspersed with the new books. There are quite a few staff picks sections, all of which are super interesting and worth looking over. Three days before Christmas 2025 I was there trying to pick out a horror book for a friend of mine. Horror is not my genre (more of a fantasy and literature gal myself), so I for sure needed guidance. The shop lady spent so much time reviewing the whole horror section with me . When we couldn't find the main book we decided on me buying, she spent the time looking everywhere for it. She enlisted the help of two additional staff members. When she was needed for another task, she made sure one of the other shop ladies had me covered. I ended up ordering the book, which came in a few days and they texted me when it arrived. Easy peasy! I will never forget that experince, especially as the store was jam packed with x-mas shoppers. Village books in fairhaven is the spot! My only note is that their bookclubs could be better. The bookclubs are during the day and don't have different genre selections (they are mostly nonfiction). There is a silent reading bookclub that I might try. They could be cultivating different types of communities (ie book clubs geared towards romantasy, sci-fi, literature, etc.), but maybe that will come with time.

This store seemingly has it all; great selection of books, both knew and used, lots of old wood, and a staff that seems knowledgeable if a little bit unhappy. The last part can explain why the vibe is just off. It just doesn't feel comfortable nor welcoming, and if I had to put my finger on the cause, I would say it is likely due to management. I witnessed firsthand how the store manager ignored customers in line waiting to pay because he was on the phone. You never ignore the customers who are right in front of you. I wish the store all the best, but I'm gonna take my book shopping business elsewhere.

There is a wide variety of books in each genre and they even have some special editions (sprayed edges, author sign, etc). The cafe is perfect for doing homework or if you just need a place to get out and read! When the cafe in bookstore culture caught on, I spent even more hours in the bookstore. Then e-books happened and the pandemic. Cafes closed in most bookstores and many bookstores also died a slow death. I was pleasantly surprised to see a cafe (x Starbucks) here. And besides books, B&N also stocks games, religious texts (eg bibles which I hardly see in most bookstores in Vancouver now), driving maps and atlas (also an unicorn in Vancouver). There are also some lifestyle products and something for the audiophiles. Records and turntables. No more CDs. While there are no comfy armchairs scattered around like in the old days, you can still buy a book and read it at the cafe. I got a $1 coupon to use at the cafe when I purchased stuff and promptly used it. Quite a good cross promotion. Big parking lot out front.

Sometimes we like going to porn stores together, just to explore. We figured that it would be a great way to diversify our shopping experience. What was intended to be something fun really put a sour taste in my mouth (no pun intended). From what little my best friend and I did see, there was a slim selection of toys, nothing special but nothing that would be a good generic go to either. I heard that this store had books which I was looking forward to, however, before we got to the section, we were rudely greeted by what I assumed to be the shop owner. I wasn't interested in staying that long and almost made my way out the door due to the really aweful damp and mouldy smell of the place, however, the female elderly clerk initiated eye contact with me. Being socially polite, I greeted her politely in which she rudely asked for our ID's. I understand that for the type of store that it was that ID was required, however, give me a f-ing break. Both my best friend and I look well into our 30's. I had my passport on me, however, wasn't in the mood to fetch the ID in the bottom of my bag since we were on the way out anyway. It was less about the request and more about how she asked. She was rude from the moment we got in. I also felt a weird creepy sense when I walked in which made me also want to bolt before our contact with said lady. The way she was looking at me felt uncomfortable and dirty.

So we headed to Launching Success and wow, did we have fun. I hadn't been to LS for several years - but was thrilled to find they still carry the same, high quality games, toys, books, supplies and other things to support homeschooling and home learning. Our first stop was at their fidget toy display, where my daughter picked out a couple of nice things to "play" with and help keep her focused during her days of Zoom classes. Next, we checked out some of their awesome art materials before heading to what I call the "teacher zone". This area of the store is FULL of all that cool stuff you see around your kid's classroom and you wonder where they got it. Well, they probably got it here! From posters to banners to you-name-it this room almost inspired me to return to college for my teaching certificate. (Hey, I said ALMOST.) While many of the items in this area are geared towards real classroom use (like signs about rules, or birthday lists) we found a couple of inspiring signs to put up around my teen's desk, as well as some organizational bins for pens and other supplies. Launching Success would also be an excellent place to buy high quality gifts for holidays or birthdays - they have a huge variety of games for all ages, and their prices are very competitive.
