Every time I go, "The doctor isn't available". They don't answer the phone, so I go there and fun stuff like that" We are closed for lunch for the next hour" notes are on the door. I drive for an hour, sit outside for an hour, and then get turned away. Never again. Finding a new vet.

I've been here before, back in 2017 and had a great experience even though my cat was totally in crisis. Prices were fair, the vet was nice & communicative. Nothing bad to say. I recently needed vet care during the weekend & figured I would come back. I knew about the sign up sheet and inconvenience of waiting in the parking lot and was fine with all that (although it really makes zero sense why you have to wait IN the lot with your pet when there isn't enough parking to accommodate, yet if you're in your car on the street where the only available parking is, they will not call your phone to let you know it's your turn...?). I arrived at 815 & was 6th in line. My car was called back around 1015 & I was given an estimate of almost $800 for a UTI for a female cat. There was a $400 urine culture & $200 X-rays which are not necessary and fully overpriced but felt pressured to do the culture because it would give the most conclusive info (crystals, bacteria etc). I declined the X-ray as I was told the culture would detect the important info. They charged my card for the X-rays anyways and I had to ask for a refund. Around 11am, they told me that my cats bladder was too small for them to get a sample and that they were going to leave her some water and try again after she'd drank. I was told I could leave and they would call me when she was ready. No one ever called. I called them at 315pm & the receptionist put me on a long hold then came back on the line & said they had *just* retrieved the urine & I could come pick up my cat. Convenient that. I picked up my cat and was given antibiotics & pain medication which was $65 itself. The tech didn't seem sure when to start the antibiotics or pain meds. I asked when I would get a call from the vet with a visit summary & care plan & they said in a couple days (???!!!). I understand cultures take time and I assume that if they were charging me $320 for it, that it was seriously enough that the results would get to me. It's now the 3rd. The visit was on the 27th. I have received no call from vet, no results from a $320 culture. And to cap it all off, my cat was not given a litter box & she was covered in her own urine, as was the towel I had in her carrier. There was so much pee that it was pooled in the corners of the carrier. Not only is this gross and unsanitary, I'm honestly not convinced that they even retrieved urine from her bladder via US/needle & considering I still don't have the lab results, I don't think they even did the culture. Outrageously bad care, ridiculously overpriced, no communication from the vet and whenever I call to follow up - during their stated business hours, no one answers and you can't leave a voicemail. Y'all need to be better. Onward to Googto write a review there too!

We use to love this veterinary hospital but it just keeps happening that we call. Explain what we needed that our dog had eaten chocolate and was just a little 10 pound Chihuahua and could they induce vomiting. They say "we are not very busy now" and come on in. Then when we get there 20 minutes later, they are unable to help us!!!!!!!! That happened today and they we closing in 5 minutes to walk in clients. Why didn't they tell us that on the phone 25 minutes earlier, you ask? Who the hell knows!! And then there was the time that we called and asked about how long a wait and they said again that they weren't that busy and to come on in. We arrive. We wait 2+ hours and they tell us they don't have a vet that day. Why the @!#% didn't they tell us that 2+ hours ago when we called?????????? They use to be great but can't even consider returning.

This is an Amazing clinic!!! Dr. Holly Polk works from Sunday to Wednesday and she is the best ever!!! She is very thorough(more than most) and she listens and is very kind. You can tell that she loves animals and she is brilliant. Having the ability to walk in because many of our vet needs come up out of the blue, is crucial. I can't recommend Dr Polk and this clinic enough!! The office staff are also very courteous and kind and professional, which is not always the case. They also give a senior discount.

    More pandemic rules

-Pandemic Review- I normally bring my dog to his veterinary hospital but during the pandemic their system is just plain sucky! I arrived at 8:45am on a Saturday morning and there was a sign at the front door that said to go to the parking lot in the back for a sign in sheet that would be passed 10 mins before their 9:00am opening. I went to the back lot and there was already a lot of people! Everyone was in line by the door. Around 8:50am the receptionist came out with the list straight up yelling at everyone to move back and asking everyone to move away from each other. It took everyone in front of me forever to fill out the sign in sheet that when 9:00am rolled around I didn't even get to sign in! Around 9:30am they brought out the list again and I was finally able to write my name down but listen to this they only take TEN people and I was number 10. So everyone who was behind me literally waited 30 min for nothing! My dog didn't get taken back till around 11:45am. I was literally sitting on the parking lot floor this whole time because they don't have chairs and you have to be there when they call your name or you lose your spot. They won't even give you a call to say you're next but they expect you to social distance in their parking lot. The parking lot is also pretty small (I think 5 parking spots) and it's hard to even get a spot when everyone is just standing around waiting. If you are desperate and need a walk in place just make sure you come early or you'll be waiting forever. At least my dogs rash is almost cleared now.

My last time going to this vet. Are they nice, sure. But I needed them to fill out half a paper that was just a vaccine confirmation for a flight. Signature, their license # etc. Basic stuff. I was charged $36 for just that... unreal. You can see the photo of what they needed to fill out. $36.... and during covid nonetheless when money is tight. I suggest finding a different vet. Additional note: I needed this paperwork done electronically and they were only willing to give me printed out version. When I asked for electronic copies they responded: "we don't work like that"

we've been bringing our pets to Echo Park for 15 years. sadly, the new owners DO NOT provide the care we've come to expect. DO NOT bring your pets here!!!! my wife and dog were hit by a car last month, and our dog suffered a broken leg. the doctor set the bone and put a plastic splint on the leg. we returned 2 weeks later to have it checked. they rewrapped the splint and told us to come back in 2-3 weeks. this morning we awoke to our dog frantically pulling at the wrap around her paw. she's been very good at leaving it alone for a month, so we immediately knew something was wrong. we cut the wrap away from her paw to find the plastic splint had dug into her paw, causing a horrific wound on her paw. we wrapped it up and immediately rushed over to the vet. when the vet came in, it was clear she had little interest in providing the urgent care our dog needed...as she didn't even look at the wound!!!! instead, she had her team come in with an estimate for X-ray, rewrap and meds. we decided our dog deserved better and I'm glad we did. turns out, the general fit plastic splint was definitely the wrong dressing, and it wasn't properly padded. the wound on her paw is so bad that we're now dealing with a very serious wound (the plastic had cut so deep that it almost severed her toe), and they found a separate wound and infection a few inches up. thankfully we brought her to a more knowledgeable vet who immediately began treatment on the wounds, molded a 1/2 cast to properly fit her leg and allow daily wound dressings, and established a care regimen to get her back to health. Keep in mind that this issue was caused by the vet that was supposed to help our pup. Recovery will be painful and expensive. NOT the care you expect from your trusted vet!!! Below you will see photos of the first splint, the horrible wound it caused, and a properly fitted 1/2 cast (for daily wound care).

My dog in need of care but it's not a guarantee that they would see.
    Pina P.

Accepts only walk in and they cannot guarantee that she will be seen at the doctor. Than it's 185 for an emergency and 85 for a walk in BUT even if it's an emergency you have to wait y til it's your time?.?.? My dog in need of care but it's not a guarantee that they would see. Walk only, with appoint but can not guarantee your dog will be seen. Sounds dumb

I don't usually give bad reviews but I have to. I came to get my puppy checked by the vet and was given medicine for treatment. At the time it seemed the change of food was upsetting his stomach, however it was much worse. What the vet failed to say was how serious the situation was and that my puppy could potentially die. He passed away in front of me and my daughter 2 days after the vet visit and when I called the office, the receptionist did not care to listen to my situation. For someone who is supposed to be working with a medical professional she was completely rude and disregarded the fact that my puppy had just passed away. She completely brushed me off and said she'd pass on a message before she rudely hung up. If you care at all about your pets I suggest you take them elsewhere. Aside from the receptionist, the staff was very friendly, but I cannot look past the fact that they neglected to inform me and my puppy died. I really hope no one else ever has to deal with this, watching a puppy take his last breath is one of the most traumatic experiences I've ever lived.

Just got a new dog and there appears to be a metal staple near his crotch that might have been left in by previous vet. How much would it cost for to remove?

My wife and I brought my dog in with a hurt leg. We went through seeing the vet and got x-rays. The procedure was for Rivers to send the x-rays to their ortho team for consultation. We never received the consultation. Instead the manager, Sergio, who is a tech and not a trained and licensed veterinarian, told us he "did us a solid" and talked to his ortho friends and "confirmed" that our dog did not have a ligament torn. Again, Sergio is a not a vet and made that call. As a result, we took our dog to physical therapy and never saw improvement for months because of this false diagnosis. Finally we took our dog to another vet to get a second opinion and they undeniably confirmed it was a ligament tear. We went back a second time to Rivers and had our first and last visit with Dr. Acosta. I don't say this as an exaggeration - Dr. Acosta was rude and confrontational the entire visit. When I tried to calm her anger and explain to the best of my ability what's going on with my dog's leg, she belittled and attacked me for not knowing the medical condition of my dog. I'm not a vet and I never claimed and somehow I was attacked for her it. It was clear the visit was about her ego and nothing else. Never in my 40 years of healthcare visits, human or animal, have I witnessed something like this. Let me make it clear that the rest of the staff was absolutely wonderful: both empathetic and professional. However with both Sergio and Acosta, this place is dangerous. I am also reporting Sergio to the California Veterinary Medical Board. I hope for the sake of Rivers and their staff, and all pet owners, that these two are removed.

When I tried to ask follow-up questions, the responses felt rushed and dismissive rather than helpful. Let that sync in and check your attitude before making a call with an administrative title and an entitled tone. :) There was also confusion about pricing: I was originally told that my dog's nail clipping was complimentary, but when I called back to pay, I was told that wasn't true and given a price instead. Because I had to go to work/could not cancel, I opted to do the day after. The estimate at MASH is $6,000-8,000 but here it was around $4500. I dropped my cat off early on Wednesday for his check-up, test, and surgery. Ultimately, they disagreed with the vets at MASH and said my cat had no crystals either in x-ray or in his urinalysis but did have a UTI which contributed to a second blockage (bladder overflow). They kept him for 48-hours to unblock and recover. This cost around $2K. At MASH where he had done the same 2 days earlier, it was $6K When MASH returned my cat, he was rough. He reeked of pee, his face was completely crusted/sticky with dried medicine, his fur was full of shed, and he was lethargic and in pain despite all the medicines. When Affordable returned him, my cat was bright and energetic. They clearly took care of him (he smelled like a baby wipe). It has been about a week since I brought him home, but I knew immediately that he was feeling better the day I picked him up. Now, he has completely recovered. Back to flinging himself around and meowing at 4 am. I am incredibly grateful to this hospital for their responsiveness, flexibility, affordability, and the kindness they showed my cat. I was worried that I would end up losing my cat (I had paid nearly $7K at MASH and he wasn't better) if he blocked again, but Dr. Barrera said that I should "give my cat a chance." He said that it is what he would do if it were his cat. I'm grateful that I did because it saved him from unnecessary surgeries. My cat was seen by Dr. Forsythe and Dr. Barrera and they both were very kind and gentle with him. I do see what some reviews mean about their disorganization. They forgot to call me to update me that he wasn't getting the surgery but would need to be hospitalized. I had to call them, but it turned out that Dr. Forsythe had gotten very sick. He returned my call despite being audibly quite sick and given that my cat needed the hospitalization anyways (and he was fine), I can see how it slipped through the cracks. They seem to accommodate all kinds of emergencies as best as they can, so I think a little disorganization is totally ok. I do think Dr. Forsythe needs a new phone. It sounded like he was calling from a remote cabin or from a phone that fell off a cliff. I had to listen to the voicemail at max volume more than once. I will likely return again/switch my primary vet to this one because it is closer, cheaper, and I had a great experience. And apparently, my shy scaredy cat enjoyed the attention he received here. There are some more "affordable" vets but in terms of quality/expertise, this hospital is well worth the price. When I called around to vets in Los Angeles for cystotomy prices, Ambassador Dog & Cat Hospital were the only ones that actually do it (many don't update their sites) that are near me (don't have a car) and their estimated price was also the same $4500. They are also roughly the same prices of my long-time vet (Beverly Robertson, wonderful, estimated $4K for procedure) and especially after going to MASH, these prices might as well be pennies. CareCredit is accepted basically everywhere, but what's nice about this hospital is that they accept ScratchPay which is a god send for emergency vet loans. This hospital is in an old building, but is still very nice and clean. Maybe not as sparkling as a brand new facility, but on par with the vets I've gone to over my lifetime.

We declined one of the procedures. 3 hours later when it was time to pay they tried to charge us for the declined service even though it clearly was written on the estimate that it was declined. The absolute worse part is that after coming home, our other dog developed the same symptoms as our dog we had brought in. We called them back and asked to speak to the doctor for counsel. They had no idea who the doctor was. Finally we were told the doctor would call us back. We never received a call and our other dog passed away that night. I faced the difficult decision of euthanizing my beloved pet. During this time, this facility offered a compassionate environment, and the staff demonstrated empathy, professionalism, and support throughout the process. Their team ensured that my pet was able to pass with dignity and comfort. I am sincerely grateful to all of them, especially Ashley, who took the time to hand-sketch my dog on the condolence card they provided! She's an amazing artist btw! My pet was been seen at this office for many years, and I wish I had known about their care from the very beginning when I first adopted my dog. I also have cats who continue to be cared for here, which gives me additional confidence remaining with their services. Thank you all at Grand Park Animal Hospital. Your compassion, professionalism, and support during a difficult chapter in my life, meant a great deal to me. My gratitude is reflected by the kindness you extend to your clients and their furry loved ones!

I've been to other hospitals before where I sometimes felt overwhelmed by too many tests and recommendations, so I was worried at first. However, this hospital was completely different. They never pushed unnecessary treatments or exams, and they took the time to clearly explain why each treatment or recommendation was needed in a way that was easy for me to understand as a pet owner. That made me feel very comfortable and confident trusting them with my pet. Another surprising thing was how professional and detail-oriented the receptionists were. They carefully checked all the documents I needed multiple times to make sure everything was correct. Everyone here was honest, trustworthy, and genuinely caring!!!

This place is the opposite. We took our dog here for a second opinion and were met with vets and staff that are both professional and have great bedside manner. Our dog ended up having a torn ACL and needed surgery. The care and order of operations he's been given have been completely professional and timely and assured us during stressful times. Our main vet is Dr Talwar and she's both empathetic and professional. Like our past vet we've been to, all good vet offices are often very busy and not the most expensive but not the cheapest. Just bear that in mind when booking an appointment.

I left the previous vet because I didn't feel adequate care was being provided. The front office staff always seems pleasant. The techs and vets have been helpful and informative, in my experience. Scheduling may sometimes take a few minutes but it's not a long wait on the phone. Prices are a bit higher than other area vets, and medications seem to run quite high. These are minor considerations when the care meets expectations. I have noticed that when you are in the exam room, there is a LOT of ambient noise from both the customer and staff sides. Dogs barking, people laughing, etc. are all amplified. This made my girl extra antsy yesterday. I'm thankful for the care we receive at LSFAH and recommend them for your pets' care.
