(Attended 08/18/16 TH - 08/21/16 SU @ All Day): Park your arse at one venue or move about and listen to the echo of local music rising up into the atmosphere!
In its 6th year, Echo Park Rising was an all-ages 4-day music festival that took you up and down Sunset Blvd. through various venues set up for live music performances, conferences, and showcases. It was also set up to familiarize yourself with the local businesses and hopefully support them. If you've ever been to South By Southwest (SXSW), this was on a much smaller scale as the former once was. So without further ado, here were some highlights from 2016:
General Admission (FREE) - Yes, you read that right! However, entrance into any venue was on a first-come first-serve basis and based on capacity. There was a VIP option available ($30.00) that gained you access into privileged viewing areas, line-skipping, easy bar access, and a goodie grab bag (while supplies lasted). Honestly, the general admission option was more than sufficient, and if there was a certain band or bands you wanted to see, just plan according since a schedule of all the times will be available everywhere.
Festival T-Shirt (n/a) - I actually didn't see any. Maybe this was something that can be available for future events.
Food (Varied) - There were plenty of restaurants to grab a bite or look for the cluster of food trucks near each venue https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=5TlTApXJv49vLyyP37HcvQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw.
Service - Generally speaking, it was all pretty turnkey at each venue: you waited in line if there was one and you were allowed in. If you were age-appropriate to drink, you better have the correct wristband https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=1keb2ZJhyKZMklNic64xJQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. Once inside, you were left to your own devices, maybe approach the bar and order a drink, and listen to some cool tunes.
Parking (FREE) - A ton of metered and non-metered street parking was available everywhere, in addition to several paid lots. Another viable option was to hire a driving service like a taxi, Lyft, or Uber. If you lived in the area (like I did), get off your lazy arse, put on your comfy shoes, and just walk it!
Atmosphere, décor, ambience - This varied from venue to venue. If you went specifically into a club, expect it to have a stage, not much seating, plenty of stage lights, and a kicking sound system. Otherwise, most venues were unique so patience and a "go-with-the-flow" attitude was your best way to enjoy yourself. Here were some pictures at various venues:

Attire - Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and comfortable walking shoes (flip-flops were doable).
Overall, wild horses couldn't take me away from a cool FREE music festival like Echo Park Rising. Music has always been in my blood and an integral facet of my entire makeup. This event has noticeably grown over the years from the number of acts and venues that host them to the attendance. This was a fabulous showcase of local artists, bands, writers, etc., and it would be a shame if this somehow faltered (i.e. remember the Sunset Junction Music festival?) with the positive momentum it current has. And, as long as the local businesses were seeing an uptick in their cash drawer, I'm sure they'd do whatever necessary to help this grow. I found total value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $0.00; no tip required). And, most venues accepted my credit card of choice...AMEX! 5.0 STARS read more
