When we were first referred to Kate, we were confused and scared. Our son was diagnosed with a significant speech delay at 21 months old and we were going through the early intervention process. Kate came into our lives and helped us so much. She gave us strategies to help our son start talking more so we could work with him in between sessions. She gave a realistic assessment of what support he would likely need going forward. She explained how toddlers learn and use language, and how a back-and-forth exchange is the foundation for communication. She advised us about the early intervention process and what we should ask for. We ended up having two EI sessions per week and also had one session per week with Kate, which was invaluable. Kate really guided the treatment approach for the EI therapist as well. Kate celebrated our son's achievements with us and was always ready with advice about the next steps to take to push his language skills even further. Less than a year later our son is doing incredibly well. Everyone at his preschool tells us how strong his speech is, and we know that is -- in no small part -- thanks to Kate. Kate is an amazing feeding therapist. My daughter has fairly extreme eating issues and we were lucky to find Kate to help her grow her list of acceptable foods. Kate is so great with kids and really knows how to make them feel comfortable and how to make trying new foods fun rather than scary. She uses a lot of varied techniques and makes it simple for parents to follow through when she is not around. She also goes above and beyond - even meeting us at a restaurant (pre-Covid) to help my daughter learn how to eat food that is prepared outside of the home. Before meeting with Kate, I was a bit worried I would be overwhelmed implementing strategies to build expressive language for my toddler with an infant at home. Not only did Kate model incredibly realistic and manageable strategies, they are already effective after one 45-minute virtual session. He is now saying multiple one-syllable words which amazes me. I have never seen my toddler so engaged in FaceTime, and we spend a lot of time FaceTiming these days! In fact, he didn't want to leave the call and after hanging up, kept playing the games Kate was initiating to demonstrate how we could prompt his speech. Can't wait for our next session! read more

Not only am I a mom, but I'm also a fellow speech-language pathologist. While my knowledge base is certainly a bit more robust than the general public...pediatric feeding & swallowing is highly specialized, and not my expertise...so enter Kate! We had a teletherapy session with my 7 month old son, as I was noticing that he was having some difficulty when transitioning to solids. Miraculously, she was able to hold the attention of a baby via teletherapy! Kate was patient, informative, thorough, and caring. In a word- outstanding!!! I was beyond worried about my daughter's speech development and Kate was able to work with her in ways that our other EI specialists had not thought to do so in order to elicit sounds, repetition, mouth movement all while playing games and having fun. Kate's friendly and warm demeanor made our daughter so comfortable. Kate helped asses our daughter and gave suggestions to our EI therapists so that everyone could work collaboratively and be on the same page to help her progress.
