Caitlin teaches parents the method of giving their child tools to find their "superpower of speech". We only needed a few sessions and my daughter (age three) now speaks like a school-age kid! She was a source of immense comfort and reliable expertise at every step, starting with early labor while I was at home, and then over the course of a 15 hour day in the hospital. She came equipped with all kinds of labor support tools that she used at various points throughout the journey, but her gentle, steady, and encouraging demeanor played the most critical role. I felt that she was connected to me the entire time, physically through gentle touch or guiding me through various positions, as well as mentally, offering mantras, listening carefully, and helping me navigate tricky decisions as my labor presented some challenges--she felt like my ally and advocate at every moment, never putting pressure on me, letting me lead and supporting my instincts. Ultimately, we achieved the tremendous feat of an unmedicated natural birth together, and I absolutely know that I would not have been able to reach that goal without her help. One key strength of hers was the way she skillfully navigated working with the rest of the L&D team. Our doctor told us afterwards how impressed she was with Sooo-z's professionalism, her ability to collaborate smoothly with the nurses to get me what I needed, and her absolute focus on me--something they don't always see with doulas. She's also just a delightful person, easy to spend time with, caring and kind, un-fussy and down to earth. I'd recommend her a thousand times over!

If I could go back in time and have Sooo-z with me during both my births, I would. In a time during which everything revolved around taking care of my newborn and my toddler, Sooo-z made sure someone was caring for me. From helping with some nursing challenges, to making sure I was nourishing my body (her lactation cookies and spinach smoothies are amazing), to watching my baby so I could sleep, even to washing pumping parts - Sooo-z was a true gift. While I'm over the hump of sleepless newborn nights and days without routine or breaks, I still reach out to Sooo-z for questions, recommendations, or just to chat. She is one of a kind, and anyone who can include her in their birth or postpartum plans is truly lucky.

I suspected my daughter has reading disability since she was 2.5 yo. I had her evaluated by our…read moreschool district but the NY State evaluations did not show that she was at risk. Since her challenges are not obvious, it's been frustrating to have her challenges and my concerns dismissed by professionals and teachers. I am able to recognize them b/c I have a reading disability myself and observed many similar traits in her. I met Jacqueline Klein at a reading disability event and she was knowledgeable and insightful. I decided to have my daughter tested by TLC and Jackie immediately observed all the nuances /subtle challenges that my daughter has. Jackie provided us with thoughtful suggestions in dealing with the situation and working with the school district. Best of all, my daughter loves working with Jackie. Jackie is amazing at working with kids and keeping them engaged and entertained.

Despicable and predatory business practices that prey on the already vulnerable. I was desperate…read morefor help, new and naive to having independent insurance, and thought my insurance would cover most of the (as I now know) ridiculously overpriced sessions. I was charged out of pocket a "sliding scale" amount of $325 (which was still more than full price as far as any other therapist would go) promptly to my credit card after every single session, and at the same time they filed a claim with my insurance for the full price $500. This is double billing, which if not out right illegal is at best shady. When I called my insurance I was informed of not only this wrong doing, but that as standard practice, a provider, out of network or not, who files claims with an insurance is not supposed to charge anything to patient until it has been processed through insurance. Further more, I was informed per my insurance's regulation they are only allowed to charge me ~$60 a session since they filed claims and thus entered into a contract with my insurance. I have called them twice with a representative from my insurance to explain in no uncertain terms what the situation was and to give them a chance to refund me. This was met with polite stonewalling nonsense that "they were not obligated to my insurance's laws because they were out of network." When I emailed them with extensive proof of my insurance's legal policy for out-of-network providers that shows that they legally can only charge 15% more than my insurance's allowed amount, I have been met with crickets. Since they have refused to refund me, per the advice of multiple representatives, I have filed a fraud suit with my insurance. As for my experience with the actual people, I had an incredibly brief "intake interview" with the Dr. Zackson, who's primary mission seemed to be getting off the phone with me as soon as possible instead of listening to my symptoms, I was pushed to take a male therapist when I'd explicitly expressed I wanted a female one. Outside of this, all the employees I came into contact with were polite, helpful, and seemed compassionate. And though I did not want a male therapist, I found use and made progress in the therapy I received before stopping treatment. But I cannot excuse this blatant exploitation of the vulnerable and the incredible audacity to continue to spout nonsense and withhold my money (which I desperately need as a self-supporting college student) when they are being confronted with the obvious reality of their wrong doing from multiple authoritative sources. Absolutely insidious behavior for a practice that claims to be about helping people.

Let's face it: people are living longer and needing more care as they age. My family encountered…read morethis reality head-on when our grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Initially feeling helpless, we soon turned to Elder Care Homecare, on the recommendation of friends, and found them to be the best home-healthcare agency we interviewed, hands down. In practice, they were as good as we'd expected. They were able to give us comfort that our grandfather was in capable hands while we were at work. The aides were not only competent but also trustworthy -- a critical factor when choosing to grant access to a loved one's home. Perhaps most important, the staff was accessible. I cannot emphasize this enough. Especially in the first weeks after we hired Elder Care, we wanted frequent updates, and Elder Care rose to the challenge. Rather than make us feel like we were annoying them, the team was a pleasure to work with, keeping us posted in real time and offering a window into our grandfather's treatment. We got the sense that the whole team actually cared.
