It was the single most petrifying thing I have ever done in my life. I entered the hospital with the following symptoms that thousands of people around the world also have, but cannot find doctors to give them answers for because most doctors are not trained in Chiari. My symptoms were... a chronic cough that made my head feel like someone had shot a gun through it at point blank lasting about 30 seconds each time; with each cough also came an electrical zapping that felt like bolts of lightning or a taser shooting out the top of my head and fingers and toes; I had complete dizziness that never stopped, causing it to be hard to think, see, concentrate, walk, shower, cook, shop, drive, fall asleep, pretty much do anything; upper and lower extremities would constantly fall asleep randomly; I would choke on nothing without warning, and also while eating and drinking without warning, my swallowing function would randomly just stop; I also felt like I had a golf ball in my throat even though a scope said I was fine; my vision was off; my gait felt choppy and uncoordinated, my memory was non-existent; I was unable to think of words when talking; I would say sentences that didn't make sense... And more! Thankfully God led me to a surgeon who was up to date on the latest Chiari research and she knew about all my symptoms and what my imaging meant. I will be forever grateful to Dr Jayashree Srinivasen, because I was on the very edge and she saved my life. Two weeks after my surgery, the lightening bolts and the gunshot head pain just disappeared. Many of the other symptoms continued to disappear over time. It has taken a long time to heal. At about 4 to 5 years post op, I stopped improving, but I am extremely grateful for as far as I have come in this journey. Thank you to those who have read this far. However when I called them to find out when I could schedule my injection, they said that the approval from my insurance still has not come back. I called my insurance immediately and they said that they had just received the request for the procedure within minutes after I got off the phone with the spine center. My insurance said that they would process this claim and get it back to them promptly. I then had to call back the spine center a week later to find out when I could come in for my injection. I was then scheduled for my injection a week later. They are not on top of their paperwork and procedures at all in the front office. Nor do they take responsibility when they have made a mistake. I would suggest that if you use this center, be proactive in scheduling your appointments and be proactive with your insurance so that you get the care that you deserve because the doctor is a great doctor.

I never felt rushed and I never felt like I was on a conveyor belt like I have at some other doctors. I even felt like when he left that he genuinely cared and that if I'd had further questions he would have gone over on time. You also get a print out with all of his recommendations when you leave, so you don't have to try to remember it all. I'm pleased to say that the outcomes so far have been far better than I had expected, with very little pain after surgery and smooth and quick recoveries. I was swinging a golf club after 6 weeks, and was playing golf just 8 weeks after my first surgery. I had a similar and even better result, with even less pain and quicker recovery time, after my second surgery. The procedure went super smoothly and I felt like I got white glove service the whole time; it was the best experience I have had getting a procedure done. He said this to me at my one month post-op appointment while…read moreshrugging his shoulders and looking at me in my wheelchair after having asked what could have happened in my surgery to have left me with the inability to use my right leg from the hip down. I thought since he would barely speak to me after surgery and nearly a month inpatient that perhaps he would at my post-op appointment. I waited 1.5 hours after my scheduled appointment in the room for him. Actually called the front desk from my cell without a answer and then from the phone in the patient room THREE times, also without an answer. I finally went out and had to ask if anyone knew whether I was in there and if I was going to see him. It was much like the night I was brought in for surgery. I was transferred from Swedish Ballard to the wrong hospital via ambulance and had to be transferred again. Was told by his PA I may not get to meet him prior to surgery in the morning because he was "too busy." WTF I was given a blank consent form to sign. At this point I lost my cool as I did when they told me I would be having neurosurgery and wouldn't be meeting my surgeon. They failed to tell me they would be taking a rib, collapsing my lung and I'd be waking up in the ICU for my second surgery. I also woke up unable to move or feel my right leg from the hip down. Weird because I didn't have any issues with my legs and was walking fine prior to both surgeries. Not only that, they went In ANTERIORLY from the LEFT side and my RIGHT leg was affected. "You should be fine in a week, then it went to a "year." I was in a wheelchair for over a year. I'm still in PT and it's been two years. I've only been walking independently for five months. This A-hole couldn't give me the courtesy to tell me what could have possibly happened because there are only "24 hours in a day." I had to resign from my job, my life was turned upside down, I lost my independence and you were stacking surgeries. I was essentially stuck in my house for months as I was fighting for my apartment complex to get an ADA ramp as I couldn't get up my ramp if I went down it. I would have to ask people passing by to help. My w/c nor walked would fit through the doorways to my apartment as my building was old. They had to remove my doors so my walker would fit through them. Disability didn't come close to covering my rent and having just started a new job I didn't have insurance safety nets. Now I take medicine for PTSD for horrible reoccurring nightmares about you and you're rewarded $1.5 million for "emotional trauma." You've never suffered in the shoes I have, not even close. Funny that I wrote a short review on Healthgrades, it was posted, you responded and two days later it was deleted. I went to post it again as there was nothing against their rules for content yet they said it didn't follow their rules. I'm still in rehab. Two years later. I have worked very hard. I have lost a lot of time out of life and it's exhausting. It's exhausting limping around everywhere despite being able to limp. It's annoying being asked continually what's wrong with me and what happened. It's awful having dreams that bring it all back as my experience at Swedish was horrific and your dismissiveness was even worse. Your life went on and mine changed for life. You didn't have ten minutes to pull up a chair to explain what could have happened. I still don't know and my trust in the medical system is now broken.
