It could be a fairly alright 3 star on a good day but I opt for 2 stars. First we were crammed…read morecheek by jowl into a window table for 2, so close to other diners that their conversations were audible without our having to work at it. The family to my left were critical of the food but told the waiters it was 'lovely' on the four occasions I heard them being asked. This also annoyed them. There was also a dispute between them whether to go for a pint to 'Laverys' afterwards. The father clearly wanted to, his wife and daughter were lukewarm & hostile respectively and the son in law or potential in law was too polite to decline. So they unhappily agreed to disagree and went off two by two. When the male waiters (no female wait staff) attended the tables either side of us their elbows were inches from the side of my head with their movements occasionally forcing me move sideways. One waiters' derrière was 2 inches from my butter chicken a few times. Hardly a romantic setting. Once wedged in we got 2 'complimentary' pappadams with 3 dips. I asked for a Nepalese beer only to be told they don't have any so I ended up with an over-priced Singha beer, most likely brewed in Carlsberg's Russian plant that distributes to most of Europe. I imagine if these folk really are Nepalese they'd proudly flog their Khukuri beer and Hinwa and Dadaghare wines. I got the small one at £3.5 which works out at £6 a pint. My wife got a mini bottle of white wine at £4.5 which is £18 a 75 ml bottle. The young waiter who said his only job was serving booze did suggest I'd be able to get some Nepalese beer in London, but I thought it was a tad far to go for a beer at 8pm on a Saturday night in Belfast. It's a well overpriced place, with my paneer cheese starter at £6 when £4 would be fair. My butter chicken main was £13 when a fair price would be £11. They do that deception where meat is cut into cubes to give the impression of plenty, bulked out by copious cheap sauce. The menus don't mention that chemical food colouring is used. I'm not a fan of these food colourings, so I'm disappointed when I see vividly red food being served up. I'm also peeved that the use of chemical colourings is not mentioned on the menu either. My paneer starter had 5 pieces of almost tasteless cheese in a lightish batter, with a smidgen of hot sauce staining the plate, a morsel of lettuce, a sliver of carrot & a cucumber slice. My butter chicken was near scarlet, packed with sugar, with small chunks of equally bright chemically red chicken. My wife had an overpriced chicken pakora starter (3 battered bits should be £2 cheaper) with a similar smear of hot sauce, morsels of carrot, lettuce & cucumber. Her overpriced main (£17) was meant to be a sizzling dish but it wasn't. Not that we minded, as sizzling just means that the very hot iron plate on which the food sits is drizzled with cold cooking oil. Again this main was bulked out with lots of fried onions with some shards of green pepper made to look a generous portion, but there wouldn't have been £3 worth of meat on the plate. The boiled basmati rice was perfectly cooked, the small vegetable curry accompaniment was watery and lukewarm. The nan bread isn't nan bread as it's too thin to be proper nan: so it it's a crisp bread, probably 20p to make the dough turning into a £2 price tag. The service was effusive, nearly as sugary sweet and artificial as the butter chicken but when I know I'm being ripped off I don't tip. We'd paid handsomely for two 'free' pappadams with dips. We were asked at least three times about our food. I said read my review but I guess I wasn't understood. We paid near £53 for a two course meal for two with a small drink each, so it was well overpriced once it went above £40. I suspect it's just another Pakistani restaurant which has come up with the wheeze of Nepalese cuisine and the ancient romantic Kathmandu as devices to overcharge and how. If this is dining in times of austerity I'd hate to see their price structure if we ever see good times. Back to M&S butter chicken - wonderful for a factory made meal and without artificial muck too.

I found the food pleasant, but spice levels too high for my taste. Having tried mains of Chana Masala (chickpeas) and Vegetable Bhuna I found them much spicier than I would have preferred. These usually are mild to medium dishes and indeed were marked as medium spiced on the Kathmandu Kitchen menu - but they were fiery hot. Also, be careful when ordering, as the vegetarian dishes sometimes seem to contain paneer - so if you are vegan you will have to be aware of this and specify no paneer cheese. Complimentary poppadoms were a nice touch.

Well I' not mad because Kurrito has just blown my mind and my taste buds. Sorry if this review seems a little all over the place, I'm still in food delirium. Right, I'm going to try and explain this is a way that everyone will understand - this is A CURRY BURRITO! The format of the place is similar to Boojum actually - you pick your meat and then you pick you additional salads, veg and sauce. I went for chicken of which they had two different types, medium and hot (in terms of spice obviously). The difference (from Boojum) apart from the curry thing I think I mentioned is that there is no queue and the portions are absolutely massive. I pretty much got a whole curry meal in a wrap. The taste was amazing, really flavoursome and authentic - absolutely no hint of processing - this is the real deal. A curry burrito will only set you back £5! This is a huge lunch - I actually ended up asking for some more foil to wrap up my leftovers for later. You can sit in or take away! I love this place and will definitely be back, probably when I'm hungover and in the need of a mega cure!

Giro's Cafe - Vegan Cookery Demonstration by Kim Close (Jan 2016)

Giro's Cafe has been in existence for many years having been located in a few different buildings…read more However, it's currently within 'The Centre' (aka The Warzone Centre), Unit 9 Bruce House, Little Victoria Street, Belfast. This Vegan and Vegetarian Cafe is run completely by unpaid volunteers, hence the opening times can be irregular. However, those who run it do so with a love and passion for promoting the Vegan lifestyle and food served here is mouth-wateringly delicious. I've visited Giro's on a couple of occasions to attend events run by 'Plant Based Living' the non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting healthy plant based diets. I was amazed by the food each time. On my first visit I sampled a warming, hearty winter stew served with crusty bread. My second visit (yesterday 26.01.2016) was for a cookery demonstration by chef Kim Close. The main theme of this demonstration being Vegan cheese. Kim showed us how to make our own cashew cheese from scratch which was surprisingly simple and startlingly delicious! Said 'cheese' was then flavoured and we tasted the resulting savoury cream cheese with garlic and sun dried tomatoes on crackers. Even unflavoured the cashew cheese was tangy and exquisite. Dessert was a fresh ginger, lime and blueberry cashew cheese cake! Everything was fresh, tasty and delectable and all attendees at the event were delighted. The food was polished off in no time! At yesterday's Vegan Event I heard Giro's Café will next be open on Wednesday 24th February 2016 at 7pm. It's a relaxed, no need to book in advance and casual affair. Food will be a warming pot of something which will be decided closer to to the time and everyone's welcome. It's BYOB and in line with the Warzone Collectives DIY Anarchist roots you can re-arrange the tables to suit yourself and your dinning companions, bring a book and read, study, sketch, chat with friends or just chill and eat. Plus as Giro's is always on the lookout for volunteers you can also feel free to chip in and help out with the cooking or washing up if you so fancy it! Food is exceptionally cheap for such high quality, being in the region of 50p for a coffee, £3 for a main and £1 for a cupcake. Unrivalled value in this day and age! The best way to keep track of Giro's Café opening hours and events is to like and follow their Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/GirosCafe/.

The next 2 times however has been quite disappointing. 1. The ordering is a nightmare. They don't give you a number and don't remember who ordered so it's a bit of a free for all. No idea why they can't call out numbers on the receipt. Each time we go, someone is pissed about having waited too long. 2. The first time we went, we got hummus on the side of a delicious Halloumi wrap but the next time, there was no hummus and the wrap was completely devoid of any dressing and didn't have much filling at all. The lack of consistency is not appealing. If they manage to stick to consistent food and finally sort out their ordering process, this can be the best middle-eastern food in Belfast (in spite of being vegetarian!)

Closing time listed as 9:00pm, actually 7:00pm on a Sunday. Maybe you should update your hours?…read moreGirl walked in right behind me with the same problem, she was also turned away. The guy with blue eyes behind the bar asked how long I was in town for, hoping that I would come back after being turned away... NO THANK YOU . Excellent service for my first hour in Ireland . Update 04-28-2026: wow, I can't believe how both the business and employee (Pearse Duffy) both responded. Completely unprofessional, Dishonest, and Disrespectful treatment of a traveler who just wanted a warm meal. Whatever you're talking about having "all orders 2 hrs before posted time" isn't working because the tall Asian woman in the white sweater walked in and out, just after I did. So I'm not the only one who is being mislead and dismissed for your ignorance and arrogance. You clearly need to make your hours more obvious, change how you display them, or do something else, because I am not the only person having this problem. What you're current doing regarding your hours, or handling of negative reviews is not working! I posted this review to help both this business and any future potential customers from making the same mistake that I did. The correct response would be : I'm so sorry that happened to you, will change it right away. But to call me obnoxious for pointing out a valid criticism? Bizarre behavior from an established restaurant. As for Pearse Duffy, the disgruntled employee who turned me away after laughing at me, noted that it is his 2nd week working in the harassing Facebook message that he sent me, and it shows... The correct response would have been; I'll tell my manager right now to update the hours on Google so that this doesn't happen again. I'm so sorry, what can I do to make this right? Not laughing at me, stalking me, and sending me a harassing message on my Facebook profile. If he contacts me again, I will be submitting all of this information to the local authorities, and filing a police report. This is not how you handle an upset customer, as either a business or an employee. This is exactly how you ruin your reputation and get fired. Stalking an upset customer and then sending them a harassing message over an honest review is grounds for immediate dismissal in any industry. This is a terrible look for your employee, your management, and your business. This is no way to handle a business or a customer, I hope someone who knows how to sees this updated review.
