I have enjoyed lunch twice here during my week long stay in London. Both the Steak and Ale pie and "Texan" Chili are worth visiting again. As a Texas gal, their Texan Chili is not a true Texan meal. However, the chili has an amazing flavor and is served over wild rice. May sound odd at first, but it all works together nicely. The Steak and Ale pie is wonderful. great combo of meat and veggies baked inside a wonderful flaky crust. The ale isn't strong but add a great flavor. They also have a nice selection of sandwiches, salads, fruits and beverages. I haven't tried those because I lean more towards the hot dishes. The staff is wonderful, quick, and most importantly (as mentioned above) the food is great! read more

Eat Simple name. One concern: to encourage eating. I love Eat. I miss Eat. I would pay money just to see one Eat built in America. DID I MENTION I LOVE EAT? Their tuna melts give MEANING to my LIFE. Also, to totally fill the stupid American studying abroad stereotype, I left my wallet there. They were so serious about making sure it was me when I went back for it. My husband and I have a new obsession: We're going to bring an EAT to the states! If you're from the US, image an Au Bon Pain, and then make it way, way better. The food is absolutely delish. I loved the hot pots (change daily; my favorite item!), salads, desserts, and fresh fruit. My husband and daughter had great sandwiches--they take sandwiches available in "grab-and-go" refrigerated cases and heat them to melty goodness. My latte was good too. The service was good although a long line at lunch can take some time. This particular location is right in the middle of a shopping district. The atmosphere is nice and clean, and they have a few tables outside to people watch. Eat, when you're ready to open a store in the US, give me a call! You'll be very, very popular here! read more

I am a big fan of Eat. I've reviewed some other branches, notably the one on the South Bank, which is a favourite. This particular branch is well located if you work in BBC radio, as it's a very short stroll from both Broadcasting House and Henry Wood House. Even if you don't work in BBC radio, but work locally, I would encourage you to have a look at lunch offerings from Eat. Soups are excellent. Their chai latte is really creamy, and only £2. The Eat Club sandwich (toasted) is one of the finest lunches you can have in London for under £5 and is consistently good in every branch. Downside to this branch is that there are no toilets. Upside is that there are some seats outside in the sun. read more

Purveyor of lunch stuff to the masses, right? Yeah, I need to stop being so judgemental. I'd been told many-a-time that EAT was okay, another chain lunch venue and whatnot. I'd encountered EAT previously as the expensive one in the Birmingham Bullring. But actually, you know what, with the benefit of hindsight and a wallet battered by our glorious capital, I've realised it's not only rather good but also a well priced option. It was cold today. I needed soup and fast. EAT soups are good, a voice from within the office said. Having heard this before from a number of people, I decided it was worth a little look. Now, entering this branch at 1pm on a weekday afternoon does not do much for the friendly, small company feeling as a massive queue of suits line up to be shuffled into the next available till by a formidable looking Queue Manager. Conveyor belts R Us. If you want something from the fridge, fine, but if you're trying to decide whether you'd like a lot, a very lot or a little of a regular soup or a chunky soup (no no, I've got this wrong, it's simple or bold), whether you'd like it with bread, with coffee, with fruit or with a smile, you ain't got much time. I'm not a fan of making rushed decisions (Make Mine across the road is similarly pushy) but at least it's not complex here. Once I was out though, I realised the soup is cheap, filling and unexpectedly good. I'm a bit of a stickler for soup in shops as I can generally make better (naturally I am also noted for my modesty) - but the bacon and lentil thing I was served up today was a pot of tasty goodness - lentilly, bacony goodness. Crucially, not too much salt, a common sin. I've noticed they also make Pho pots now (they must be new, advertising all over the store), more pricey than the regular Prince of Soups, but definitely worth a look in. You can check the soup of the day online too (tomorrow's is chicken laksa, get in my mouth!) So I suppose you can consider me a converted EAT bod. Are EAT taking over London (and the world)? The time was that all you saw walking around the city's streets were more and more branches of Starbucks. But now there are no less than three EATs within a 5 minute walk of each other along High Holborn where I work. I know there are lots of hungry office workers around here, but still That said, unlike many other sandwich chains, EAT have isn't half bad with fresh ingredients, adventurous sounding sandwiches and decent prices. We found the EAT a couple of door down from out hotel. We had the Four Cheese Sourdough Toasties, and I had the Ham Hock and peas salad (see picture below). The food was really good. The service was too, especially considering how busy these places get. They are all over the place so you can ALWAYS grab a quick bite whenever you want. We ate there several times on our trip and I would go there again next time I'm in London. I would go to EAT if they made one in Los Angeles. The two problems I had with EAT were; 1-It seems that none of the tables had all feet on the floor, so they wobbled a lot or you had to keep a heavy foot on it to stop the motion; and 2-The places get so busy and there are no instructions anywhere. The hungry Londoners on their lunch breaks are not very tolerant of EAT rookies. But after a visit or two we were up with the pros and enjoyed it. read more

Eat The Rael Food Company has branches throughout London and is a good place to have a quick nourishing meals. The sandwich fillings are interesting,quality good and they always have 3 or 2 types of soups in eithr big or small. The place here at Oxford Circus is busy but the service is not unfriendly. VERY disappointed.... I Normally LOVE eat but now I will steer well away from it. I guess I normally eat at EAT at least twice a week as its opposite my office, if not more and in particular I love their hot dishes. I have fallen in love with the Turkey & Mash hot pot with red cabbage and their 'Pigs in blankets' -sausage, mash & Gravy. This week I have eaten three times at EAT. Today I ordered a large portion of 'Pigs in blankets' with mash and gravy and I must say I am VERY DISAPPOINTED. Firstly I asked for a spoon of Cranberry sauce on top (Which they had in stock) and I was advised that, not only do they not serve it with this dish but that i was also unable to have any. I even offered to pay extra but my actions were still rejected. The message came from a man who I presume is the Store Manager. This experience has left a bad taste with me and really puts me off returning. It is irrelevant that I shop there daily but I even mentioned this to him and he still refused the sauce. How petty of him to decline me some cranberry sauce. When I returned to my office (i run an office with over 50 people in it who all eat at EAT) I was shocked by the fact that I had been given the same size portion of 8 small sausages in the large portion compared to the regular portion I had been sold yesterday. The only difference was that I had slightly more mash and an increase in price of nearly £2.00. I feel like I have been mis-sold this larger item and this is not what I would expect of what is normally a fabulous food retail business. read more

It was a random Saturday afternoon and I was walking around in central London and getting hungry. So I took the opportunity to see what EAT could offer. The service was a bit slow when I was there, but overall, the shop has a nice atmosphere and I was very happy with my little yoghurt. This chain of sandwich shops is really a treat. Their sandwiches, snacks and coffees are good but their soups are sublime. They have two different soups on the menu everyday - one simple and one bold. The bold ones are more to my taste and I have gone through a number of vivid and unusual flavours, from Hungarian Goulash, to Chicken Pot Pie, to American Corn Chowder. The Vigo Street outlet is small but the staff is super-friendly and helpful and never rush you even at busy times. Well worth a visit - and do try the soups. read more

Don't remember exactly which store we were at but they all serve the same thing. Husband and I both bought pot pie. I got the chicken and mushroom, he got the beef one. Can't say a lot of good came out of us visiting... The crust was flaky and probably the only good thing about it, but otherwise there's no flavour at all!! It's like they forgot to add salt or something. Would not go back. Didn't even finish the pies. Now I know why the manager was trying to push the mash on us. Telling us people don't get full on just the pie they want the side as well... Ya because they throw most of it away! read more

Great eatery which offers a fast lunch/breakfast/anytime! menu sandwiches, pies, rolls, noodles, soups and muffins/cakes. Hard to describe but the offerings are enjoyable and good value for London. Very popular yet the queues move efficiently and service is professional and prompt. read more

I love Eat. Really, I love it. I especially love the name, because it's the name of one of my favourite things to do. And the soups! The soups. You can check online each week to see that soups they have on that week, and so far all of the ones I've had are great. Now I'm talking about the fresh soups you order from the counter, not the ones in the case that they put the broth in. I was unimpressed with those. But the red pepper and goat's cheese soup is the bees knees. As is the spicy tomato basil, and the mushroom soup. I'm sure I've tried more, and they've all been wonderful. As for the sandwiches? They're fine. Overpriced like Pret a Manger, and to be honest I prefer Pret for sandwiches. But especially in the cold months, Eat is one of my favourite places for lunch because of the nomtastic soups. read more

I have come to the point where I factor in a quick stop at EAT on my way home most days out of the week. I have a borderline obsession with the place. For a simple soup or sandwich, it doesn't get much better. The only thing on their menu that I don't really care for is their mac & cheese. They need to sort that out.
