Inside you will smell delicious gluten free and preservative free sausage. People come from all over the country to visit this store and to try their famous tractor milled grits. We took home hot pepper sauces and several preserves . They were so friendly here from the guys in back serving sausage dogs and links to checkout. Walking around the store is nostalgic for old time items like RC cola and small games from the 60s. Out on the porch are 4 rocking chairs and by the lake are places to picnic which we did with my parents who said they felt they were on vacation since it was so peaceful. Will definitely make a return visit when come back to Tally!

I was here…read morein search of cane syrup, understand, from out of town--just visiting after an afternoon at the springs and dinner at O'Neal's Buffet. My friend and local guide to Madison told me I needed to check here for the syrup--it's where he gets fishing tackle . . . yes, at a grocery store. There are like three aisles of just fishing tackle and reels and rods. In a grocery store. That's the first sign you're somewhere special. And there's like half an aisle of camping gear, as well. The store otherwise seems larger than most IGAs I've been to before and well-stocked. They didn't have pure cane syrup but they had an astounding variety of cane syrup blends: Gilley's, Daddy Buck's, Delta, and others. Cane syrup, like maple syrup, is expensive when pure so it often gets blended with other sweeteners--I use it in baking so that's overall ok by me. They may also have been out because we're right upon the season when it's traditionally made, so last year's supply may be running low and this year's not to market just yet. Aside from the syrups, they had a great baking aisle in general: lots of cornbread and other savory mixes (hushpuppies, et cetera), cake mixes, and Goodman's Extracts which Publix doesn't carry and other stores may at best have just their vanilla but they make good, stranger flavored, extracts like caramel and black walnut. If you want to know if people in a given community like to bake, go to the local grocery store, check out the extracts: if they have a vast selection, you've got serious bakers around. The smell of this store is unlike anything I've ever smelled before: not bad, but just weird. Maybe plasticky, not quite chemical, not quite food, again not bad but just strange. Still, this store is a winner in my book, it feels a bit out of the 80s, a bit stuck in time, but a gem all the same.

J's is "The Godfather" of Liquor Stores in Thomasville...It was the go to store/lifeline for…read moreFlorida Craft Beer Fans for years when they carried all the Craft Beers that were not at that time available in Florida...brands like New Belgium..Founders..Green Flash..Ballast Point and others...as Florida over the years finally got all those brands the need to go up to J's is now down to Allagash and Westbrook Beers...J's has always carried a nice selection of wines..craft beers..and liquors ,but with the opening of Bird Dog Bottle Company a few years ago it's shortcomings are now much more noticeable..The store is small and pretty cramped and it does not really have the space for all the stock they try and carry..For example, even though they carry a nice selection of craft beer it's all stuffed in the back corner of the store like a crazy uncle you try and hide at a Dinner Party.. back in the corner the beer is not arranged in any discernible order and in the biggest gaffe none of it is refrigerated....quite a contrast with Bird Dog where all The Craft Beer is in alphabetical order and it's all in coolers as well....J's is obviously not as nice and as organized as the new guy in town, but it's still a solid stop because the prices are good...the people are nice..and they normally have what you are looking for..You just may need a little patience to find it..and J's actually has a better "Bomber" Selection than Bird Dog does...you just need to check the expiration date on a lot of them ,because they may have been around for a while since the swill beer is the fastest mover here.....J's is worthy of 4 stars for all the listed reasons and is definitely still a must stop for me when I am in this part of Thomasville, because it's always wise to stop and pay your respects to "The Don"

I also love DD's personality. Most processors have zero personality, but DD truly stands out. She treats all of her customers equally, genuinely cares, and is always happy to greet you at the door. We have passed this place on the way to Quitman so many times thinking we would stop on the way…read moreback to Tallahassee and finally it worked out. I'm glad it finally did. Their retail store is a much smaller version of the products you see at the pecan and candy shops along the interstate. This is located at the facility where the products are made. They have samples out for most, if not all, of their products to help you decide what you want. That's assuming you don't want one of everything. We got dark chocolate covered pecans, chocolate covered dried cherries, chocolate covered blueberries, divinity and a gift box of chocolate covered pecans. We easily met the "deal" requirements for a free peanut brittle. We got to taste samples of everything except the peanut brittle. I don't remember seeing samples of that. All of the chocolate covered candies are delicious but the big surprise was the peanut brittle. I used to love peanut brittle but I had given up on it a long time ago for fear of breaking a tooth. I decided to get it out for our family Christmas gathering and took a little piece, figuring to just suck on it until it melted. Turned out it was easily crunchable and not too sweet. Of the variety of things I put out to munch on this Christmas Day, their brittle was one of the hits. This assures that we will make sure to stop at Dillon Candy and not pass by. Their prices are reasonable. The choices are limited to what they make. Many of the products are in generic packaging rather than their retail packaging which probably helps keep the prices down. The store is small and they have regular business hours Monday-Friday, 8-5. If you are passing through on US 84 during that time you need to stop.
