You cannot judge a book by its cover. A lovely place from the outside, but unfortunately it is run…read moreby a bunch of imbecile muppets. We had booked the NCP9 lifeguarding course for my daughter in February 2023, which was due to start during May 29th half term. She turned up for the course only to be told that the course had been cancelled. No apologies from the course management for the cancellation nor as to why we weren't informed of it at first. If we had known this earlier, we would have organised an alternative. Now, her plans and half term have been ruined thanks to a parade of incompetent dimwits. As for the refund, the staff have to speak to their head office about reimbursing the money (which they were more than happy to take). Hadn't they thought of speaking to us about the cancellation first?!?

I've been using this pool for a number of years, all the way back to when I first moved to Harborne…read morein the late 1990s. Back then, Harborne pool was a fairly run down (but nevertheless charming) Victorian pool - with a high glass ceiling and changing rooms that lined the pool. I really used to enjoy swimming there - it was very peaceful. This recently opened new centre on the site of the old pool is also very good. It is BRAND NEW, and you can tell. The facilities are excellent and the pool is first class. They have also added a gym on the 2nd floor which makes the whole building look very impressive when you drive past. I've not used the gym, but judging by how busy the exercise bikes and running machines are in the wide window that overlooks the road, the gym is very popular also.

After hearing a lot about this gym I decided to try it myself and it was better than I imagined…read more They have TVs and radios in all their cardio machines! I take full advantage of this and watch and listen to a variety of shows. The gym is quiet small but is excellent for what it is. The only thing I found a bit worrying was the fact that I didn't have an induction so it was lucky I've used all the machines before, elsewhere. Unfortunately they only have one of every toning and muscle building machine so you may wait a while if someone is on a one you want to use. On the other hand they have state of the art equipment. So you might be thinking this must cost a lot? The member ships start at forty five pounds a month and fifteen pound for each visit without a membership. The price includes swimming and the sauna and steam room. It also includes all their classes such as spin and yoga. So this offer was too good to refuse for me!

I would almost put it on par with much large chain gyms, in addition the swimming pool is a good size and the jacuzzi is very large. Throw in a steam room and a sauna plus a full spin studio and 2 aerobics rooms and you have everything you need. Memberships is relative but cheaper than many local gyms and for £10 a month you can upgrade to the black card giving you a towel every time you go and also access to all other Village Gyms. I am impressed but I will say it is due a refit soon so hopefully it will get even better.

Whilst I realise this is a review for a big chain, I really think this one needs to be shouted…read moreabout! Context: I am a fat girl. I don't want to be a fat girl any more. I have been a member of a number of gyms in the past, and for many many reasons hated it and quit. I was determined this time to find one that would work for me. Enter Bannatyne's Brindley Place: The bizarre decor immediately appealed. The pool is dimly lit, so I don't feel super self conscious about my bits being on show, and the gym itself is never rammed full of people so I never feel I'm being looked at. The muscly oiled men keep to themselves in a separate area with free weights which also helps me feel less anxious about visiting. But the real reason this place is awesome is because of two very specific people: 1) Steve Northam - he inducted me into the gym, he puts up with my whinging and my craziness over any kind of exertion, and at times he can be a little bit strange too (he does competitive fencing! Amazing, right?!) but above all he encourages me to keep at it. And it seems to be working. 2) Lee - a personal trainer who runs the spinning class on Thursday mornings and Sunday evenings. He warms us up to COUNTING CROWS (yes, I know, it shouldn't make sense but IT DOES!) and continues the sessions mixing Lady Gaga and Alanis Morrissette and Pearl Jam and Kings of Leon and on the rare occasion we manage to twist his arm to turn on the disco lights, it's like doing a bike ride at Snobs. And I've discovered I LOVE it. So. Indie / metal spinning, and crazy helpful instructors? On that note I'm IN. (ahhh cheesy ending, I know, but I couldn't resist :)

A great way to spend a Saturday with a friend :-) Arriving at 10:30 I was determined to make use of all the facilities, and that's exactly what we did. My friend and I were shown around the health club - free water machine, changing rooms, swimming pool, steam room, jacuzzi and sauna. We spent spent our time relaxing on the loungers reading magazines and generally just chillaxing using the jacuzzi and steam and sauna rooms. The changing room facilities are great complete with the usual showers, toliets, lockers (don't forget a £1 coin!) drier for swimming costumes and hairdryers. You can also bring in your own hair straighteners to plug in. We each had a facial in the spa whereby they used a range of Elemis products on our skin which resulted in super soft skin. The spa staff were friendly and professional and I must say I felt very relaxed after my treatment as it included a head massage too. I will defintely returning for another spa day.

I love this gym! It reminds me of my gym I used back home in America- massive, clean, and…read moreaffordable (£18.99 per month). It's almost the perfect gym for me. It's open 24 hours too! I work nearby so I can pop over right after work. They don't have a car park, but there is a large parking garage near Cineworld that always has parking (for a fee of course). Yes some days it can be extremely busy, but I haven't had issues finding an open machine. There are 2 floors of equipment! They seem to have every machine that you could possibly need: treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, rowers, free weights, a cage, and a small studio. The trainers are so friendly and go out of the way to help you. Most of the classes are free. There are many classes day and night so there's always an option for trying something new. There are also a few vending machines by the entrance that sell locks and towels if you forget yours, and also protein drinks and snacks to help your muscles recover after a great workout! The only reason I'm not giving this gym 5 stars is because of the studio and the water fountains. The studio isn't a real studio. It is just a few walls set up to sort of enclose an area of the gym floor with no ceiling. With no solid doors, anybody can walk into the class even if they are not booked in or creepers can stare in without being seen. I wish it were a proper studio with a lot more mirrors and properly enclosed. And my water fountain gripe..people drink a ton of water in the gym, and there are only 2 little fountains in this huge gym that take forever to fill up a bottle of water. I don't see why they don't have the quick filling water fountains made for refilling large bottles. I've seen them at other gyms and even some airports. Please install one Pure Gym. If you're looking for an affordable gym with a lot to offer near city centre, then this is the gym for you!

When they say 'no frills' gym they most definitely mean it. There's no sauna, pool or whatever…read moreyou'd find at some of your more expensive gyms (or health clubs as the pretentious ones want to be known as). What there is though is more gym equipment than you can shake a stick at. If all you want to do is turn up at any time (24 hours a day should you see fit - pun not intended), do your stuff and go then this place is perfect. Yes, there's a faint odour of stale sweat. Yes, the turnstiles to get in try and chop your arms off and yes, sometimes the water from the fountain tastes a bit... funky. But it's a gym, it should be sweaty. The man-eating turnstiles just make you get in a little faster and if you don't like the water take your own - or go to the Tesco over the road! I've been when it's been pretty damn busy and I have always managed to get on the equipment I wanted when I wanted. If you're looking for a low cost, no frills gym around the city centre then this place is well worth a look.
