We had an amazing experience from start to finish with Matt. Believe all the reviews you are reading on here, because you're going to have the time of your life. I spent a good 10 hours researching guides for my families Salmon fishing trip, and trust me there are a ton in the Northwest. After narrowing it down to 3-4, and talking to Matt on the phone, I knew he was our guy. I started talking to Matt about 6 months prior to our trip and he was excellent with all communication. Whether by phone, text, or email, he was always quick to respond and happy to answer any questions our group had. The boat was plenty big, and he keeps it spotless. I didn't think it was possible to keep a fishing boat that clean considering how often it's out on the water. All the equipment was in excellent condition as well. Matt will even clean your fish upon return, then cut and bag your catch however you like. Last and most important, Matt is just a great all around guy. Super knowledgeable about his craft and has a great sense of humor. Remember, depending on the trip you book, you'll be on a boat with your guide for 4-8 hours. A few of the guides I talked to seemed pretty dull and lacking personality. That is not the case here, and would have really changed our experience. I'm already planning my next trip with EastFork and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

My youngest and Matt catching his first sturgeon.

My sons and I went out with Matt on 6/28 on the search for sturgeon. What was supposed to be a slow day ended up being anything but slow. Matt took us to a perfect place on the Columbia River and my boys had the time of their lives. Within the first few hours they caught seven sturgeon and I'm talking pretty big ones. Like others on here, I spent a good amount of timing looking for a quality fishing experience. We had tried another charter service in the past and had a poor experience. This time was completely different. Now we know who to use going forward and I highly recommend booking with East Fork Outfitters. You don't be disappointed going with Matt.

Excellent experience with Matt and his business partner Ed. Matt was extremely easy to work with while setting the trip up and was able to get our group two boats to accommodate our large bachelor party group. The fishing was amazing and we were all worn out from reeling in monstrous sturgeon all day. Matt was non stop the whole time baiting hooks and keeping the action going for our group. Matt and Ed were hilarious and got along great with our big group of guys. It was a highlight of our time in Portland and I highly recommend booking a trip.

I had an all around great experience with Matt and EastFork Outfitters. Before the trip, Matt was quick in responding to all my questions about booking and the actual trip. On the boat, Matt is entertaining and amazing at his job as a guide. I caught the biggest fish of my life thus far... 10/10 recommend!

We had an Amazing time with Matt! Highly recommend if you want to have a great time and catch some fish!

So I am no way a professional Yelp reviewer - in fact this is only my 2nd review ever (it requires something pretty amazing for me to log on and pass forward my kudos). In this case I knew I had to pass on my '5 Star' experience with Matt at EastFork Outfitters. A couple weeks ago I decided that I wanted to take my 8 year old on his first official fishing trip. Having no personal contacts available to me, I checked Yelp and decided to call Matt and inquire about possible dates. From my very first contact with Matt, he was extremely helpful and professional. He was patient with me as I asked him question after question. The day before, he confirmed our trip and gave information on when and where to meet. We went out yesterday (6/5) and it was gorgeous! Having gone on various trips before myself, this one was really for my son. He was so excited. Matt was amazing. He explained all things he was doing and as much as possible, allowed my son to participate. He was very friendly, funny, and helpful. From Salmon to Sturgeon - our trip did not disappoint! My son brought in his first fish with Matt on a trip I know he will never forget. It hasn't even been 24 hours and my son has been calling all his Cub Scout buddies to tell them about how much fun he had. He's asked me to email pictures to his teacher so she can show them to all his classmates of which they are most likely doing this moment. If you are searching for an excellent fishing experience being with your family, friends, and or even co-workers - stop looking and check in with Matt about dates! I will absolutely be booking again!

My Dad with his first Salmon. 25lbs of fun!!

I am not one to give perfect reviews. I rarely give 5 stars on anything. But after fishing with Matt a second time now from EastFork Outfitters I have to come on and give an honest review. I have fished pretty much all over the world, warm water to cold water. At some amazing salmon lodges in Alaska and British Columbia to Tarpon in the Florida Keyes. And Matt is one of the TOP guides I have ever fished with. He makes a sincere effort to not only get you on fish, but to ensure that you have a fantastic time doing it!!! Both times I have fished with him I have brought family. One my Father in Law and this time my Dad. Each time he has helped them catch their first Salmon and made it an incredible experience. I have also brought my young kids with me and Matt does everything to make sure that the kids are enjoying that trip as well. My 5 year old now goes in the backyard with an old fishing rod casting across the lawn saying that he is out "Fishing with Matt". If you have ever wondered what it is like to hook into a huge Columbia River Chinook or a 6 foot long Sturgeon, well then I highly suggest that you call EastFork Outfitters NOW!! And see what it is like to be "Fishing with Matt"

One of the many nice sturgeon we caught

My family and I love to fish, but more importantly we love to catch. Fishing with Matt is absolutely a blast! He has taken us on multiple trips which have included salmon, steelhead, and also sturgeon. My personal favorite is sturgeon fishing. Matt is very easy to get ahold of and will not just take you for a boat ride. He makes sure the fish are biting before he goes out. The boat was very clean and well equipped. There is even a phone charger on board! Matt works hard to make sure you are comfortable and always have a great time. Matt also helped me with lodging needs for my out of town friends who came along to fish in the trip, which was very helpful. I highly recommend Matt for whatever your fishing needs are! You will not be disappointed and will be going back to him for years!

Let me start by saying this was my second trip out with Matt and I cannot wait to go again! I booked the whole boat and took my family and we had the time of our life! We caught more salmon than we could fit in our cooler. Matt's boat is always spotless and he has the latest top of the line equipment on board. I always feel very safe and his boat if fully equipped with lots of safety equipment, (eg. Life jackets, flares, safety lines, first aid kits, etc.) One thing about Matt is he always is in contact with you all the way up to the day of the trip to be sure to we were in the best location to be in this fish. He always puts in the extra effort above and beyond to make sure you have a great day. My wife was nervous to be on the boat and he was sure to make her comfortable sitting her next to him in the back of the boat talking to her the entire trip. He is a very personable guy and will have you laughing the whole trip. If you are looking for a great guide who works harder than all the others on the river you have found your guy! Thanks Matt for all of your hard work and my family looks forward to fishing with you again- Mike

My boys catch the monster 30lb Salmon, with the guidance of Captain Matt Eleazer... he will HOOK YOU UP!!!!

!:-) OH. MAH. GAH!!!! Fishing in the Coumbia River! "Are you ready to catch some PIGS?" Huh? Well, thats what we did when we went out for the day with East Fork Outfitters. Captain Matt Eleazer was contacted by me a few weeks in advance for a reservation to fish. His boat seats 6 people.. but 4 people would be very comfortable. We had 3 Adults and 2 Children and that was perfect. Because when he says your going to see action... YOU WILL SEE ACTION! He never accepts a client unless he feels he can guarantee a fish... (and no one can truly guarantee a catch... but Matt works hard to make sure you catch.) Learning to captain a boat even before driving a car, Matt is a 25 year fishing veteran and US Coast Guard licensed Captain... he's also got a lifetime of experience catching fish and is an all around great guy! I couldn't be more impressed. Not only did he set up our fishing spot hours in advance to give us the best position, but he prepped us well, and continually impressed with his knowledge of fishing and boatmanship. I had no clue regarding this kind of fishing. I wanted my kids to experience what it was like to land a big Salmon... My kids are experienced fishermen, but not this kind of fishing. Lets just say there was no room for disappointment with all the excitement going on. I'll be fishing with East Fork Outfitters again, hopefully an annual trip for sure! PROS: Knowledgable -- he knows his stuff, he will hook you up with fish when no one else around is catching. Experienced -- he catches fish! Responsible -- Matt is very safety conscious, he's got mandatory life vests for the kids. Courteous and Gregarious -- you may be spending up to 8hrs on a boat, he's a personable person who naturally entertains and knows how to have a conversation. Honest -- if he doesn't think he could hook you up, he won't take you out that day. Equipped -- Matt has the latest in technology and sonar to find fish... His boat has USB ports to recharge your phone (just in case your phone dies and you need that picture!)... Bags for fish, he will filet your catch and pack them in plastic bags for you (you bring the cooler)... Shade, his boat is equipped with sun shade on those hot days. His boat seats 6 max comfortably, but 4 adults is ideal. He can troll or motor whichever is needed. CONS: NONE, but there will be time where fish aren't quite biting yet and you may want to bring some cards or non alcoholic drinks for conversation. Ask in advance if his boat is a dry boat. We didn't bother, we don't drink. Smoking of any kind is discouraged. RATES: Guided trips are $200 per person, which includes approximately 8-10 hours of fishing with all bait and gear provided. Childrens rates are negotiable. Just ask. BOOKING: To reserve a guided trip, a 50% deposit is required at the time of booking. The balance due will be payable the day of your trip (cash or check only). Trips cancelled by the client 30 days or more prior to the scheduled trip will receive a full refund of their deposit. You can book and pay deposit online at his site using paypal, or major credit cards. LOCATIONS: Check out his website for locations to fish, or feel free to email him directly. http://www.columbiasalmonguide.com/locations/ eforkoutfitters@gmail.com WHAT TO BRING: Check out his website for suggested items to bring! Don't forget your sunscreen and bagged lunch/snack and drinks... (he doesn't provide those) http://www.columbiasalmonguide.com/what-to-bring/ Be sure to let him know what you want to fish for. The rig set up is different for what you might be interested in.... Steel head, Sturgeon, Salmon, just give him a heads up and he will get you set. We caught us some BIG fish that day, and Matt really set us up right. I was very impressed with his fishing skills and people skills... What a great day, and so happy to create these priceless memories with my kids!!!! Visit his site and reserve your experience today! http://www.columbiasalmonguide.com/ 5 WOOFS! I'd give him more if I could! Be ready to catch some PIGS!!!!! King Chinook Salmon! WOOOO HOOOOOOO! We will be using him again every year. I highly recommend this guy!!!

The Perfect Day. Sturgeon catch and release

Luckily we found Matt and his business on Yelp. Of course you never know for sure if things will be as good as the review until you experience it yourself, but this was the best fishing trip ever, according to my brother who went with me. He is an avid fisherman, I am not a fisherman but went so we could have a good experience together. It didn't hurt that today was the only sunny day in 2017 so far, but putting the day and my non-fishing aside, it was FANTASTIC for both of us. Matt was friendly and professional. He had many tips on how to handle the unwieldy sturgeon. We caught our fill even though it was catch and release. It was a BLAST! I highly recommend it. Seriously a great day.

A group of four went fishing out of Astoria with Matt. He was in the water before 4am preparing for our 5:45am arrival. We hit the ground running and landed our first Chinook by 6:30. Matt was constantly communicating with other guides on the water to make sure we were always on the fish. We limited out by 9:30am. Matt acknowledged it doesn't happen every time, but the entire day was action packed. I went on the water with very little experience but Matt guided me through the whole process and by the end of the day I was fishing with confidence. Even with things got a bit hectic, Matt walked us through the whole process. He boat was also spotless, which was a welcome surprise. I would highly recommend Matt and East Fork Outfitters to anyone interested in a guided fishing trip.

Karen K.

What an outstanding fishing guide. He knew exactly where to take us to get the best experience during our Salmon fishing trip. Matt is knowledgeable, outgoing and willing to take the time to make sure everyone had a great time. Our entire group had a wonderful trip. We caught some great fish. Truly a great guide. We will be back! Highly recommend using Matt as your guide.

3 1/2 Stars - This is a difficult review to write…read more May 22, 2026 we went on our third Portland Spirit Cruise. We upgraded to the "Admiral Package," as this was a special Rose Festival Cruise, concluding with a fireworks display. The cruise itself was wonderful. The live piano music is a lovely enhancement, and the atmosphere was buoyant ;-). Every staff member was a delight and the captain is charming. But - The Food: Our appetizers were interesting, Mr. Wonderful ordered the Shrimp Cocktail and said it was alright. I had the Cheese Platter, some of the cheeses were hard, (as in dried out) and the bread was *overly hard. The salads were good, the dressing delicious. For our mains, I ordered the pasta dish. I took perhaps four bites and passed. The pasta was far beyond al dente and the vegetables were almost unrecognizable. Mr. Wonderful ordered the Beef Short ribs, and was happy with his meal. I'm going to chalk this up to me ordering incorrectly. Table clearing was another issue, our bread tray and appetizer plates remained on the table far too long. When our main courses were delivered, there was no room. We ordered our desserts and coffee. We received our coffee about 10 minutes afterwards. Then we watched as our server, served a large table next to us their desserts and a couple of other tables nearby. He may have been overwhelmed as this deck was extremely busy. Anyway, after waiting 20 plus minutes more, we requested our dessert, again. Cold coffee and dessert = not great. Our meal service from start to finish was disorganized. Viewing the fireworks from the top deck was a treat! We enjoy cruising with Portland Spirit and will do so again, but we would *not purchase the upgrade. Hint: Request (and pay for) a window seat on the *second deck, as the views are much more desirable.

The Manager, Cory, was welcoming as well. He brought us to our seats and also sang a song for someone who was celebrating birthday/anniversary along with our live piano player. Captain Cody did a great job navigating the boat up and down the river. The ride was smooth and enjoying. What a great experience! The food was delicious and generous portions. I had the marinated beef, while we tried the chicken and blackened steelhead. All delicious! The complimentary bread was the show stopper. It was a focaccia bread that had some thickness to the dough yet delicious and quite addicting. We had a chance to walk up to the top deck to get some fresh air. The forward part of the boat is covered which what we needed since it was sprinkling outside. The deck was wet but one of the crew members was quick to sweep the water away from the deck to avoid any accidents. We are looking forward to the cruise again but for dinner and probably not until end of spring or summer when the weather gets better. Parking garage is 1 block away. We went on a Saturday and the parking was flat rate $6 which was reasonable.

A few other people were down on the dock casting for fish, others sat on the various rock formations sort of zoning out, and it was a real pleasure to see the children and parents sharing something they really loved. If the youngsters aren't interested in the fishing, they can come down and feed the ducks - such fun. The water is so clear you can see down to rocks and plants on the bottom and also nearest the dock flashes of the goldfish as they glide along (these goldfish eventually grow into some very large carp). There are evidently some sturgeon as well along with the rainbow trout, and also lots of ducks and other water birds (a few still with babies). Oh yes, lots of dragonflies - flashes of black and fiery orange red - add to the charm. People who fish welcome you right into their society and talk readily about their fishing experiences and how the big one got away and even why. This is a terrific family experience and for those who want to come out alone. The best time is to come early, before 7, and especially after the lake has been re-stocked, if you want to catch some fish. But like I said, it's a wonderful experience whether fish are caught or not. Give it a try. And remember if you don't catch any fish, you can hike back up to the shopping center above and get some breakfast. Not a bad day at all, in fact a damn fine one if you ask me.
