After a lot of research and visits to rehabilitation centers, my sister and I were lucky enough to find Sunset. We knew from the moment we walked in, this was the place for her. The Administrator, Bob, was actually the first person we spoke to. The Admissions Consultant, whom we were scheduled to meet with, was wrapping up with something else so Bob offered to show us around. He introduced us to the therapists, nurses, and social worker. We walked through the building and outside on the beautifully maintained grounds where there was a vegetable garden, paved walkways and a gazebo. We watched a round of BINGO, one of the many activities conducted daily, along with Social Hour, Manicure Time, Art and Crafts... My mom has been there 2 months now. The facility has been short-staffed much like many of the nursing homes as of recently, but they still manage to take care of their patients, pick up the phone when I call, and respond to requests for little things that I've asked for. My e-mails are always answered and the staff is very helpful and kind. I have no issue with giving this facility a five star rating!

I had a broiled Seabass this evening with finger potatoes and roasted carrots, French onion soup and French vanilla ice cream that I would swear came out of a gourmet kitchen. The residents of these various facilities seem authentically happy and there is plenty to do. I got to check out hydroponic greenhouses, a library, two different chapels, fitness centers and some historic sites in addition to a number of walking trails. I know many people here, although it is only my second time visiting. When it comes time for me to retire, I will strongly consider this magnificent facility.

I spoke with Cheryl in their office, begging her to send a nurse to look at it even though I saw one just two days ago. I have a hx of cellulitis in that leg, even from small wounds like that and I am a diabetic. She refused, saying "it's not a thing." Cheryl kept talking over me and refused to shut up so I hung up on her. I even swore at her, which I wish I didn't do but I am scared about what could happen to me. My next scheduled nursing visit is in 5 days. A lot can happen in 5 days. As a medical professional she should know this! The front of the folder they gave me says "Call us first. We may be able to help you avoid unplanned hospitalizations if we know you need our help." That's a big fat lie. I wouldn't recommend Centerwell Home Health to my worst enemy, even my ex-husband.

Thanks to the dedication and skills of the nurses, physical therapists, and occupational therapist who visited my mom on a weekly basis, she is now 100% recovered. Also, it gave us great peace of mind to have a nurse on call 24/7. I cannot begin to express my gratitude to the health care providers at Kindred at Home and highly recommend the agency.

I collapsed and had to be brought in. The place looks great, but all the money went for show, not care. Initial greeting was good, but then just ignored. There were many problems with the visit. I was there for over 15 hours. Said just wanted to hold me for observation then changed next morning to admitting with no reason. There are plenty of doctors roaming around to poke their head in to add a consultation without doing anything. The call button in my room was not working. Tried for 45 minutes to get help to urinate, no response. Nurse said she fixed button but still did not work when needed assistance later. Someone came in and asked for info and I asked her to get nurse. Ten minutes later, nurse showed up to turn off call light and walked away. She came back 8 minutes later, she said had to go elsewhere. Could not take 2 seconds to say be back, just felt ignored. A cute mobile x-ray showed up to take a picture. Why? I don't know why and how can you take a chest x-ray with all the wires and contact stickers in the way? These were only some of the problems until I finally signed myself out "against doctor's orders". Which doctor, I don't know. One of the ones breezing in and out for the consultation fee. I would not go back to the ER except to die!

Staff are overwhelmed and overworked but they (all but 1 so far) consistently show genuine caring and respect for the people they serve. Unfortunately for all, it appears administration is hell bent on saving $ on the backs of those at the bottom of the hierarchy. There are13 residents in my family member's cottage and on holidays and weekends, there's often only one caregiver on duty. They get to say it's legal because they have 'floaters' supposedly providing coverage to multiple residences. My relative's toilet has been plugged the last 2 times Ive visited and I have had to plunge it until it clears. Multiple rooms have the same issue. Over Christmas, they ran out of tissues and paper napkins so brown paper towels for Christmas meals?! Families needto stay vigilant and document the stains on the floors that stay there for weeks because maintenance department couldn't care less and apparently aren't expected to care or repair. So dissatisfied after hearing The Cottages wasn't great but was at least decent. Not anymore.
