I'd like to say that I have the power of flight! But that's not the case…read more I'd like to say that I eat healthily all of the time. But that's not the case either. Come on we've all been there, it's 7:30pm, you haven't eaten since lunch time, you've just finished work and have an hour to kill before you have to be somewhere else, there's no food in the house and the shops are so far away. But then in the distance, like the gates of heaven are calling, you see those Golden archways, but instead of St Peter waiting in the doorway, there is a lady, let's call her... Phleb, waiting behind the counter. And with all of the enthusiasm she can muster, she asks what you want, not that she cares, but she asks. And you proceed to stare at the menu, panicking over the choices which you didn't think to make before getting to the counter. You can see Phleb is starting to get impatient and at the last minute you see the biggest picture on the board and tell Phleb in as confident a voice you can muster, I'll have the SuperAwesomeMcBurger meal. Of course the SuperAwesomeMcBurger meal is only available for three minutes a day on a wednesday, and even then you are only eligible to get it if you are wearing odd socks and a hat made out of fridge magnets. So invariably you leave with a Cheeseburger and a milkshake and go eat it in your car, while thinking all the while about the pizza that you only just remembered is in the bottom of the freezer. I'm not saying McDonald's is bad, I'm just saying it's McDonald's! It's fast food, made quickly and without any passion, it does the job it's supposed to do and in an hour when you are hungry again, you will look back fondly on the burger that was and consider once again the McFlurry that could have been. It's not exactly first date friendly, but it does what it's supposed to do. Enjoy your meal.

McDonalds has been on this site for about 10 years now and it is really starting to show it's age…read more As with all McDonalds it sells the typical burger & chips meals but they now also sell 'Subway' style baguettes as well. Healthier options for kids include fruit bags, carrot sticks that can be in the happy meal instead of fries. The food is generally not too bad for this style of place but a word of advice, if you want something that you know will be fresh then always ask for your order either without something or with something extra. This applies to all McDonalds not just this one but be prepared for a longer wait as the food will be cooked/prepared for you while you wait. The cleanliness of the place varies depending on when you go in, which means that it seems to depend on which members of staff are in at the time. It's hard to remember that place like this are staffed with teenagers who wouldn't know one end of a mop from another and will actually wonder how a brush works (WTF was my reply to this). It's a typical fast food store that pays it's staff peanuts but expects them to work like slaves so don't expect the Ritz when you enter a McDonalds.

I heard about Oink on the Metflix show, Somebody Feed Phil, and immediately added it to my research…read morefor our trip. We stopped by for lunch one day and we each enjoyed a delicious sammich. The sammiches come on a big, soft, delicious roll. And they're filled with a generous portion of pulled pork. You get to customize them a little bit by selecting your bread, the size of the sammich, the stuffing (sage and onion or the homemade haggis), and a variety of spreads (apple, homemade mustard mayo, homemade chili cheese, and homemade chili jam). My wife got the sage & onion, and I opted for a haggis filling. We both very much enjoyed our rolls. They were very filling, and the staff was very friendly and helpful with suggestions. The haggis was unique, but we are very familiar with pulled pork sammiches back home. We really enjoyed our meal and would definitely recommend Oink to any hungry travelers in Edinburgh.

There is usually a line outside this simple restaurant but possibly due to the light rain, the line was fairly short when I went. I only waited for like 5 minutes. The menu is simple as the roasted hog/pig is the only thing on the menu. You can choose a few things to customize the sandwich or even order it in a box. I ordered the Oink size (medium) on wheat bread and chose sage and onion for my topping and then the Homemade Mustard Mayo for the sauce. They make it in front of you and it is fresh and very tasty. Unfortunately when I went they were out of cracklings. They wrap it in foil and hand it to you. Pretty simple and efficient. I love that the outside of the building is painted pink like a pig (coincidence? Probably not). This is a good place to try for a quick, cheap and yummy sandwich. They do this one thing very well. Please open more of these!
