    Long & Foster Real Estate

    Long & Foster Real Estate

    (1 review)

This review concerns a property purchased in St. Michaels by my daughter in the last half of 2015…read more The property, a house on Water Street, was purchased through Long & Foster as her buyer's agent. I have been a client of Long & Foster (L&F) for several real estate transactions, both buying and selling properties, for over thirty years. Up until this latest transaction in St. Michaels every dealing I had with L&F had gone smoothly and was handled with the highest levels of professionalism and integrity. However, that all came to an abrupt end with the Water Street acquisition. Without going into all of the gory details of all that has transpired since August of 2015, the bottom line is that it has cost over $160,000 to put the house in the condition it was purported to be in at the time of acquisition by the L&F buyer's agent and the home inspector selected by that agent. I have written two letters to the top two executives of L&F seeking redress of what was obviously a transaction gone bad. The first letter in the fall of 2016 requested a thorough investigation by top L&F management into the situation. I received a response from the COO acknowledging my complaint with the assurance that L&F took the situation seriously and would look into what they considered 'a number of complicated issues'. Nothing in the form of redress was forthcoming. In frustration at the apparent lack of concern for my daughter's situation I wrote the second letter in the spring of 2017 reiterating my frustration with L&F's malfeasance and lack of redress. I received no response to that second letter. L&F clearly has many excellent agents who observe the highest standards of integrity and professionalism. However, as with any large organization, not all will meet those high standards. Some will put personal gain ahead of client protection from misrepresentation and harm. When that happens a firm that truly treasures its reputation for 'client first' will take remedial action to protect the client's interests. I am sad to say that it appears to me that L&F no longer is that kind of a firm. Top management appears to put short term profits ahead of what used to be a sterling reputation for integrity and fair dealing. If you get one of those great agents in a transaction, good. If you do not, do not expect L&F top management to honor a commitment to fair dealing.
