We had a disappointing experience with East Side Ventilation and want to share it. We had a chirping noise coming from the gas meter outside. We then called Manitoba Hydro and they replaced the meter. The gas company technician restarted the furnace but told us that the furnace did not fire up on the low speed just high speed. He spent a half hour diagnosing the problem for us and said we will need a switch, as it was not communicating with the mother board. He told us that we will need to get our furnace company to replace the switch.
I contacted East Side Ventilation based on past positive experiences. I told them what had happened with the gas company and asked for a service call to correct our furnace issue. The technician arrived, I showed him the switch the gas company technician said needed to be replaced, then left him to do his job. He spent over an hour and a half watching the furnace cycle through over and over again. I get it that he needed to be sure he did his own diagnosis, however that much time getting the same result over and over again seems like an unnecessary use of time and billing.
The technician identified that it could be one of three things that could cause the low fire, the pressure switch, the mother board and can't remember the third thing but the pressure switch was the cheapest fix. Ironically the pressure switch was exactly the part the gas company technician said required replacement.
East Side Ventilation installed the furnace originally 8 years ago so they are aware of the model and brand, besides just a few months earlier we had the same technician totally strip down our furnace and do a deep clean. During this service call, knowing the model of furnace, why did he not at least have the switch with him?
My bill was close to $500.00 had the technician brought the switch with him on his first trip we could have avoided the unnecessarily cost of the second service call. The cost of the part was $119 seems reasonable.
I spoke to them directly and was offered $50.00 to resolve this issue, to me that just does not justify the high cost of the labour charged.
If you have been told by a credible company like the gas company that you need a certain part and you tell East Side Ventilation. Ask them to be prepared and bring the parts on the first service call so you are not over charged like happened to us. read more
