This place honestly doesn't function like a library, so I won't call it one. I read one of the reviews that Yelp is too (too what to recommend?), but those are the posts I always read first, and I will tell you that everything Lindsey C. wrote is actually true - albeit a bit funny. I have to say that libraries ARE supposed to serve the purpose of providing an atmosphere to study or conduct research, but in a QUIET setting, and let me tell you that the atmosphere in that building is typically extremely loud. Yes it is typical there.
From rude whomevers talking on their phones (and some literally yell), to actual librarians who really DO throw books and dvds onto shelves so that they make absurdly loud banging noises (and if you don't believe it, I won't have a problem going back there just to record it and post it here so you can hear it for yourselves), to people who come in to study rooms with cantankerous children to tutor them when they should be in the children's room section of the... community center...and not in a study room with adults who are trying to, well, research and study, to ...yes, a not so clean place- they might clean the place once a week, if that often?
Well my last day there was this past Wednesday because I too had reached MY limit. I met a friend of mine there who is a Social Worker; we were there to try and get some work done as we both had deadlines. I'm an author and I do language translation work as I'm also a polyglot. Well we were in the Teens Books room sitting at a table in the booth seating, where we always met. The room is a section for quiet, undisturbed study. A female walked into the room talking on her cellphone (this rude behavior is VERY COMMON in that place as management does barely anything to ensure quiet) and then a rather loud, hyper child came in a few minutes later with her mother. The rude yapping female on the phone said loudly to the child's mother that she'll just tutor the child IN THERE, not in the kids section of the place where she should have gone to, but in THERE where we were.
Well one man started huffing and puffing and snatched up his laptop and other stuff and left. I left not too much later after he left, and I must say that like Lindsey C., I have since ventured to my alma mater's library instead, and I invited my friend as a guest, and the difference really IS night and day. Honestly, when you can't tell the difference between what is supposed to be a "library" from a loud, raucous community center, then there's obviously a problem somewhere that needs to be addressed. Needless to say, whatever the place used to be, it certainly isn't anymore, and quite frankly it hardly serves its intended purpose. Go to an actual library instead if you need to study or conduct research in a QUIET setting, because you will not find that there. And I offer no apologies, just an honest review. read more
