Well, that's a nice surprise. One of the cool things about living in a city is discovering all the various nooks and crannies that comprise it. Even more, it's fun to experience all the colors of a community. One thing that confounds me about Nashville (as it's discussed on the internetZ) is that it equates East Nashville to be all one thing. Huh? East Nashville is an area composed of various neighborhoods, each with its own flavor. It's not one blob of a part of town. This is part of my crusade in getting people to explore and speak correctly about where they live... one review at a time.
East Park is something that makes Edgefield sing. It's so enjoyable. I can't see how anyone wouldn't be a fan. Nestled in to the community (abutting a school as so many of these parks do), East Park is surrounded by big, beautiful homes that reveal why this east side neighborhood was Nashville's destination of choice before that nasty fire of 100 years ago (or so). It's not the green space that makes this park so fantastic (although the wide expanse of grass is calming and very pretty), it's what makes this park a park is what elevates it to fan status. It fits in perfectly with the old neighborhood and the new builds that are beginning to encompass it. There are wide fields for soccer and a large baseball diamond for play. Kids can enjoy the playground. It's well lit and has nicely-paved walking paths so if you're walking your dog at night, you shouldn't feel *too* afraid. As mentioned earlier, the school and large, Victorian (to name but one style) homes give a wonderful backdrop to the park and add to the air of fanciness. The large church the neighbors the park reminds you that this is a neighborhood greenspace for locals. The Community Center, though, is the real 'whaa' factor. It's huge, boasts lots of activities for the kiddos, a large gym (that's, like, $3 a day/workout), and a huge pool. Yep, there's a gigantic, (almost) free swimming pool in the middle of Edgefield... and it's for the community. Take the time to walk around the park outside one of the many fests it hosts so that you can appreciate it for the local hotspot it is. Did I mention the views of Downtown? Edgefield, you got a good one.
