The vegetables were crisp, fresh and cooked to perfection. This was my best meal so far. I've been traveling for a month and I'm a bit of a food snob. I doubt I will make it to Gander again but wanted to help my fellow Yelpers out. This unassuming restaurant is worth a stop. The service was great, the food was delicious and plentiful and the price was right.

It's amazing how many Chinese restaurants there are in Newfoundland, as even the smallest towns…read morewill have one & the largest communities will have three, four or five. It's with this, that it's a crap-shoot when it comes to Chinese consumption in Newfoundland. Nevertheless, we were in Grand Falls for the night & I liked how the outside of Tai Wan looked; so I decided to give the inside a chance. I was very happy that I did. The food came quick and it was fresh & delicious. We didn't have anything elaborate, but you can tell when something has been sitting in the back for 3 weeks & when something seems like it was bought recently. I also had a Manhattan, and while I question how often people get Manhattans here by how long it took, I was very happy with the Manhattan and the cool tiki glass it came in! In addition to the awesome tiki glasses, the interior of Tai Wan is also very elaborate and neat. (Although the wallpaper in the bathroom makes you glad you didn't drop any acid before visiting Tai Wan.) A lot of the Chinese places in Newfoundland feel like bland food that are just helping you reach your calorie requirement; but not Tai Wan - the food was actually enjoyable & I will definitely return one day.

The menu is pretty standard for a Chinese restaurant and the decor is pretty stereotypically Chinese. The food was, however, quite good. We ordered the ginger beef (which is what you'd expect) and the Dai Dop Woey which is a mix of various meats and veggies served on a sizzling plate. The only criticism was that the rice was a bit starchy. Overall, what we had was solid and service was decent.
