Alex came out to our residence to anchor my daughter's dresser to her bedroom wall and to supply us with some much needed items like a fire extinguisher and emergency flash lights. He also installed 2 hooks on our kitchen cabinets, that will secure all glassware, in case of a disaster. Alex was very thorough and took time to explain how everything operated and how to use the fire extinguisher. To install the cabinet hooks and anchor my daughter dresser to the wall, it only took him about 30-45 minutes! Best part was that he came during what most folks consider "after hours" - at 6pm. When I read about this company, I was excited. There aren't a lot of vendors out there that help to earthquake proof your home by handling the smaller details, like attaching pictures and furniture to the walls. Most companies I found did the heavy duty protection - like bolting foundations. Alex Bachman is sitting on a gold mine of an idea here. It's unfortunate that he is not organized enough to make it successful. Alex is a nice enough person and so is the guy who works with him. This is not a personal attack on either of them. It's an honest review of my experience with his company. When I first contacted him, I explained that I live in an older home that has concrete walls - not drywall - like most modern homes. I explained that I have had other contractors here who have ruined their drills because of the walls. I told him to make sure he brought a drill that was strong enough to drill through concrete. I emailed him a list of things I wanted to be done and set up the first appointment. Fast forward to the first appointment. He came unprepared. He broke his drill on the wall (just like the other contractor I told him about), so he had to make a second appointment to come back. He also incorrectly attached a dresser and the TV to the wall. He attached the velcro strip on top of an unattached glass top on the TV stand and if an earthquake hit, the glass would slide off and the TV would go with it. The dresser was in our baby's room and had a changing table on top of it. I explained that the changing table would eventually be removed, so attaching the velcro there would not work. I feel these are details he should have noticed before I had to point them out. The second appointment didn't go too much better. He came with the correct drill, but didn't have enough supplies to complete the job. He had the inventory list of what was to be done right in front of him, but he didn't bring enough supplies to attach the rest of the furniture to the walls. He said he would have to come back a third time to complete the work. That was unacceptable to me. I didn't even bother having him come back. To his credit (and after I suggested it), he did offer me a discount on the work he completed for the inconvenience of having to come back a second time. It's a shame, really, He's a nice guy with a terrific idea for a business. If he were more organized, I'm sure he'd be making money hand-over-foot. read more

In the very same appointment, he conducted a careful walkthrough of the whole house, making suggestions and taking notes along the way about things he could do to make the house safer in the event of an earthquake. Beyond that, Alex provided helpful tips about what to do during and after an earthquake and answered all of our questions. He came back for a second visit to perform all of the updates and I feel so much more prepared.
