The visitor center at the Manhattan Project National Historical Park a few blocks away doesn't have…read morea gift shop, but this bookshop seems be the place to get your Manhattan Project souvenirs. I bought a clock made from excess graphite and process tubes from the Hanford reactors (so it was never used in the actual reactor, with no chance of radioactivity), supplied by the B Reactor Museum Association. The gift shop proceeds are used to fund interpretative projects at the reactor, make displays, and support many other reactor related projects. The owner is also a former Health Physicist at the Hanford Vitrification Project. The rest of the shop has a dizzying array of books, scifi toys, memorabilia, and posters. There's even a cordoned off rare book room which contains books from the 1600's and first editions of books. This shop is a labor of love and much appreciated. They can be open even beyond their posted hours, so if you're in the area, it's worth stopping by to check it out!

This is my second trip here. I'm going to make it a priority that whenever I'm in Richland that I'm…read moregoing to stop here every single time. This place is amazing! He has all kinds of collectibles here. Rows and rows of books, old out of print books , expensive rare 1st edition books, movie props and memorabilia, movie posters, pop-culture collectibles, collectible sci-fi toys, tons of Hanford Nuclear collectibles and souvenirs. And his personal service to you is great too. I asked about a particular topic in sci-fi that I was trying to find a book on, but I couldn't remember the author and he knew exactly which authors to look for in that genre right off the top of his head! The man is a wealth of knowledge. You could easily spend a couple of hours in here just looking at everything he has to offer. Although I wanted to buy more, I did end up purchasing an old hardback book of Treasure Island from 1924 that I've always fancied. One of my favorites from my childhood. Not a big purchase, but it was one that I had wanted. More people need to know about this place.

There are two book sellers I have loved to visit for many years. One is in Portland or used to be…read more It's name is Powell's Books. It's hard to say if it remains intact in the trying times that city condones as of late. This I do not know. I no longer travel to Portland for pleasure. This shoppe is the other. The Archives. It's a place of solitude where you can be inundated with books. You can wander there as long as you like. No one will intrude on you. Help is available for the askance. If books are not your particular cup of tea on any given day many other amusements await. Video this, Audio that and several genres of either. The store is ever changing. Who knows what treasures abound this day or next week? You're looking for what book? Of course you can't find it! How could you? I've been here countless times and I seldom try very hard to find something particular. I query the wizard behind the book sellers desk, (you may have to look hard to see him), he may have what you seek, but not on a shelf. Perhaps tucked away for one reason or another. It may here but not for sale per se. Maybe it is on a shelf and still seems to be invisible. If it's here, he will know that and where. If it isn't, it's likely he can obtain a copy. Book sellers have stores that are like the multitudes you see, you know, in strip malls, in boutiques, and so on. It seems someone has a stamp and just stamps one in this city, then the next city and so on. Boxes, little boxes and they all look just the same. You get my drift. That, thank the Gods is NOT THE CASE here. The owner is a purveyor of books. He eats, breathes, buys, sells and covets books. Yes, he is a wizard. Pooh, pooh you say, I can't blame you. I may have just happened upon a review like this one thought pooh pooh it as well. If you disagree with me friend, you haven't been in his shoppe that's all. There isn't another place like The Archives. There isn't another wizard like the one operating this shoppe. If books pique your interest with the tiniest twinge remember, the magic in the world is fleeting and fading. "Seize the day."

A fantastic used book store! We were visiting La Grande and my wife loves to go to book stores…read more.. I can take 'em or leave 'em. This was different though with the quantity of used books, magazines and dvd's I was mesmerized! I've never seen so many books in one spot. I even bought a couple, and that's very unusual. We WILL be back!
