I'm glad I finally learned Earthgoods had moved from New Paltz to Hyde Park. I was disappointed when the Mother Earth store in Hyde Park closed in my PY (pre Yelp) years. I continue to shop at their Poughkeepsie store, but I'm glad to have a Hyde Park option again. And it took a Val-Pak coupon in the mail to learn they were here. In fact, the owner (a very likable gentleman with whom I had an enjoyable conversation) said I was the second person today to make a first visit based on Val-Pak. The current coupon, BTW, is for either 25% off a single item, or $5 off a purchase of $20. They carry quite a few products from local farms and businesses, and what better way to be greeted when walking into the store than a display of Harney & Sons teas. My timing was a little off for the lunchtime offerings, which include sandwiches and soups. They are very willing to special-order, if you want something specific, and when I asked about local farms/businesses for which they do not currently carry products, the owner said he would check with these businesses to see about carrying their products. I just went into the store for the very first time to look for some Ginger Ale. When I walked in, I heard some music, and the lights were on, but I did not see anyone so I said "hello, hello, hello" but no answer. I started walking further into the store and saw a gentleman behind the counter. I then said, once again: "hello" to him to his face - first thing was, he did not say hello back and looked bothered by my presence. i'm not sure if he was just an employee, or the owner. Anyway, I asked him if he had Gingerale and he told me "no". I decided to walk around the store because I had a vibe that he was telling me no even though I felt as if I searched for it myself, I would find what I was looking for. Low and behold!!...... There were two different kinds of Gingerale in the cooler. What a turn off for a first impression... where you are dealing with a store that is directly related to dealing with customers, and you seem bothered by them wanting to come in, have a good experience, and wanting what you have AND spending your money to get it. This store would be a lot busier if the person who's dealing with the customers was: more open minded, more friendly, and more willing to help. This guy was not willing at all. Just what the doctor ordered! Ok, so maybe more like what the holistic naturopathic doctor ordered, but you get the point. Earthgoods is Hyde Park's much-needed and brand new organic market, Yay! With a wide array of healthy options, including dairy-free, sugar-free, gluten-free, etc., this store is a great alternative to the chemical-filled chain stores in town. They also offer a make-your-own peanut butter area, which is awesome, and they have a good selection of to-go meals as well. The staff is very friendly, and they also offer a rewards card to earn a discount. They're located next to CVS in the Hyde Park Plaza and parking is free. read more

No. This owner and store always made me a smidgen uncomfortable. The help did not seem to care and today was the worst. The owner had some cookies at a price on the shelf and he charged more at the register. It was pointed out that the price was wrong and he became belligerent, and refused to walk 5-10 feet to look at the items on the shelf to check that they all had the same price. "I guess the price changed today". "I guess the price fell off the bag". When questioned, pointing out that it was unethical to misprice at the register, he called me a "dirty devil", He became extremely insulting ... I left the store and he followed me to the car and threw the money at me "here's your dirty money," coming right up to my face. I told him to be careful as I would call the police. I've rarely run into such a terrible and hostile attitude. I am considering this to the authorities, but for now I will warn Yelpers. Ada read more

I had the misfortune of shopping in this perpetually empty store. Empty in product and customers. The surly owner couldn't be bothered with selling his overpriced goods which leads me to believe this is a front for something else. read more

I visited this store for the first time to see if I could find a particular snack item. I was the only customer there, yet I was not asked if I needed help as I wandered through the sparsely stocked aisles looking from side to side. (The stock was loosely organized at best...) I finally asked about the item at the counter, where the man seemed annoyed that I had the nerve to disturb him. He very brusquely informed me that he didn't carry it because it "wasn't good for me"... What?! Who is he to make that judgement call to a total stranger who could've become a good customer? I was really surprised how rude and apathetic the shop owner was toward me. He seemed annoyed that he had to look up from his phone when I asked for some Kombucha on tap. There were 3-4 separate taps but no labels anywhere. I asked what flavors were available and what brand and/or if it was local. And he ignored me. Seriously, he didn't move an inch and all he did was give me a hostile look. Then I was declined when I asked for a small sample. At this point, I didn't trust the store nor did i feel like spending $30 on a growler of kombucha (which is a crazy price next to other HV markets). I went to this store for the first time today and was not welcomed by the shopkeeper. He did not want to be bothered with helping me in any way. I still was optimistic because the store was within a reasonable travelling distance. My husband made the purchase, which came to over $90 and I wished him good luck with his store and said it was nice to have a store like this nearby and hoped he would be there for a long time. He went ballistic! He accused me of bringing him negative energy, how he got that from a good luck wish is completely insane, and he kept on screaming at me. I apologized to him even though I had no need to do so; but, I thought I could save the new relationship of storekeeper and customer. How stupid was I! I asked if we could start over and would he apologize to me , as well, as a good gesture. He started air stabbing me! I returned all the merchandise and left feeling like my life could have been in danger had there not been someone else there with me. STAY AWAY!!! read more

I was initially so happy to see a Health Food Store back in Hyde Park but sadly I will never go there again. Their facebook page says: "Your local, friendly, alternative, community-minded health food store since 1977!" Don't bother patronizing if you are looking for friendly and knowledgeable service . This owner is rude, and not friendly at all. I asked a simple question about expansion and he was really rude. There was no need for the rude responses. They need practice/training at customer service. Now, the reason I asked about expansion was I was hopeful. I realize it takes time, and that is all the owner would have had to say. There is hardly anything in the store. There is no one there that knows anything about any of the products they do have. Just go to Mother Earths on Rt 9 if you need Health Food Products. At least at Mother Earth, the workers are educated and really very helpful and nice. I spent 60 bucks in this store, and after that I was treated like crap. I would never go there again, and suggest everyone to skip this store. Also, they left New Paltz, and I don't wonder why now!! IF they could not make it in New Paltz, they will never make it in Hyde Park. They are Rude!! read more
