I do my best to go to every comic shop I can when I visit a new city. I was excited to try Earth Prime but it was slightly disappointing. The shop is small and the staff didn't look up when I came in. They spoke to the regulars and chastised a customer for opening a bagged back issue but it was otherwise silent. They have the comics on racks separated by companies but no New Release section for monthly comics. It made browsing kind of difficult. I bought a trade paperback, a reprint floppy and a monthly issue of a new series. The tpb shelves were packed too tight in some places so there were pressure points on some of the books. I did appreciate the amount of ABSOLUTES and oversized hardcovers, though. Overall, I would go back again but I don't know that I would go out of my way. read more

The (only) local comic shop. Carrying current & back issues, graphic novels, art books, figures and other collectibles, Earth Prime does the job of supplying the ever-growing demand of the comic-craving locals. The store itself is on the smaller side - but it does the trick. The layout of the store is pretty straight forward, with the majority of the stock being recently released issues (Marvel, DC, Darkhorse, Image). Collected works can be found on the left side of the store with older issues in bins underneath the shelves. There is a modest selection of manga as well as a small stock of figures (mostly Star Wars, Doctor Who, and Walking Dead type stuff). Staff can be a little hit or miss - an experience I'm not unfamiliar with in many comic shops. I am thankful for their presence in downtown Burlington and am hopeful for more inventory and a more vibrant experience. A great time to check them out is the annually celebrated free comic book day. Also, if you make it to Earth Prime take the extra flight of stairs up and check out Quarterstaff, the local game shop! read more

The staff was always snooty, in that Simpsons know-it-all-fat-balding-loser-comic-book-store-proprietor kind of way, and generally wouldn't give us the time of day. Definitely not bad. Clean, well organized and well stocked, I can absolutely see myself stopping in on a consistent basis if I were a local. Charlie was pleased enough with the selections and left with an armful of reading material for the rest of the trip. The service was an A all the way: while we didn't catch her name, the girl behind the counter was delightful, offering us suggestions on places to visit and chatting about the four pawed comic book fan perched on a stack of back issues. Unfortunately they don't appear to stock much manga which was somewhat of a disappointment for me (Borders anyone). All things considered, it's not a bad little place at all. If anything, I wish they offered a little more variety especially if they are indeed the only local comic shop around. Only having recently gotten into comics, I haven't had a lot of experience in different stores. Here they do have a great selection, and can order anything you are looking for, although it may take a while. If you live in the area, you can get 20% off books you subscribe to. They hold your titles in boxes behind the counter so you can come in and be sure to have the new issues of your favorites waiting for you. While on the weekends and busier times you do get the arrogant comic book nerd who looks down on you, many people who work here are friendly and just want you to enjoy comics as much as they do. Aubrey and Damon both offer great suggestions and will tell you about what they have been reading lately. There is definitely a casual business attitude here. They don't always open on time, all receipts are hand written, and there is a friendly cat that lives in the store. In addition to comics, they also have graphic novels, collectible figures, and back issues. Great place for someone who knows what they want, or someone who wants to hang out and read new comics and find something they are into. read more

So I have only been into comics for a few months now and I'm completely hooked. My roommate got me into them and suggested I check out Earth Prime. Logan is always super helpful! I have been extremely happy with the selection of both new and back issues for the comics that I'm into. I also dig that this is a small comfortable relaxed comic shop, not a corporate retail type place. I've noticed a few customers in there tend to confuse that sentiment... The staff is great, always super helpful and willing to have a good chat about whatever you're into and recommend new stuff that you might like. It's like any small local shop, if you take the time to get to know the people who work there and talk to them just like regular people, you get a lot in return. You talk to them like lowly employee stock boys, then you might be in the wrong place... Highly recommend stopping in and getting to know the place and people, it's well worth the trip. read more

I love this comic book store. I would go in multiple times a week. The staff there has been very helpful with questions. The shelves are super well organized and easy to navigate. I also think they have a nice collection of trades available. My only wish was that they would make the back issue bins and the 25 cent boxes a bit more accessible. I just got back into comics after a lengthy 20 year break. I like this shop. Good setup, nice 20% discount for subscribers, and It 's right on Church St so it's easy to get to. The one staff member that I thought was a douche bagel just left town so I have no issues with the staff. He was the kind of guy that treated you poorly because you didn't have the necessary amount of experience needed to be a power dork like himself. I'd ask him a question and he'd be like "Um...no." It must have been all that stress from reading comics between customers. There is a nice house cat there (Shady), a guy that sits at a computer all the time and rarely speaks or moves, and a hot chick that works there on Sundays. What more can you ask for? Oh yeah they have a decent selection of books too. One time when I was in there one of the more bravado employees was discussing his recent trip to Montreal where he got drunk and got jumped and got kicked in the face several times. Of course he had to repeat the story to everyone who walked in so I had to hear it 3 times. He also had no visible marks on his face from getting kick so his assailant must have been wearing puffy slippers. A couple final notes. They have to write down each title you buy so the checkout process is pretty tedious. In this time of computers and scanners you would think there would be a much easier way to do it. And they have no website so I couldn't find basic information like store hours. read more

some good selection, but had an issue (no pun intended) with a comic I had been hoping to get. It was not in stock, and I would have liked to order it, but the man working seemed somewhat dismissive of me. That's okay, maybe he had something important to attend to up behind the counter area, and he did ask me if I needed help initially, so I would not let that dissuade me from going back there. However, I overheard (and saw) the staff be VERY rude to another girl who came in to the shop. Because of the way he spoke to her, I will not be back. I can get what I read now through vendors on-line and would suggest this to others to avoid the unbelievably negative and superior attitude of this place. read more

I have been going to this store since 1984 back when it was on Bank Street. I have spent thousands of dollars there and sadly for them I have stopped giving them any more of my money. I had over $100 subscription with them every month and when I had a problem with their customer service which was absolutely snotty and terrible I wrote to the manager. After sending him a letter in the mail and going there to speak to him about the problem he took the employees side and said that he didn't know what happened because he wasn't there. So basically he didn't really believe me or didn't take my complaint seriously. So to you Earth prime Comics I say goodbye. It's too bad you couldn't have been more accommodating to your customers. Seeing as there are less than a dozen reviews of this place and several people are complaining about the customers staff experience you might want to do something about it. Finally getting a chance to write this review. I'd always heard this place was terribly staffed and treated its customers poorly, but I thought I'd give it a chance last year when I wanted to get a copy of Hellboy in Hell #1. I got there about 1pm and asked if they had it. I was told that, yes, they had it, but it was in a box in back and they wouldn't get one out for me. Come back later, they said. My coworker went back to try to get me one after work that day, only to be told that they were all sold out. This seemed ridiculous to me (anyone else?)... seems like opening a box to make a sale isn't really too much to ask, especially when Dark Horse had spent a lot of advertising money pushing the release date. Soooo, I'll never go back here again, even though it's the my local comic book shop. Instead, I'll spend my money online (won't plug my favorite sites here, but there are some very good small business sites out there) and feel guilt free about it. I'd love to spend my money locally, but I'm not going to do it if it means being treated poorly. read more

Very rude staff. Unfortunately they are the only store in town. I've tried several times to buy from them but they have not been very helpful, to the point of being rude. I've never seen a business run were they treat you like they don't need your business. A few of my friends have also tried to purchase from them and have had similar experiences. My suggestion to anybody looking for comics, go on Ebay and buy them and spend the extra couple of bucks for shipping so you don't have to deal with these guys. read more

Formally as known as "runner up for most disorganized and saddest comic shop," things have frilly turned around. First off, by simply hiring a women, who knows her stuff, the shop know appears and is female and kid friendly. I would put the kids comic rack at the front of the store however. The store is even more friendly to local talent (reminds me I need to get my books back in there). There is a wide range of publishers represented as far as what I call mainstream books (some people consider Boom! alternative...hah). It would be nice to see a stronger DQ, Fantagraphics, Too Shelf and Slave Labor presence. But you can find most of the basics there. The cat is great and both my daughter like it...oh yeah there are some cool toys, but the shirts and such are lacking. No matter, it's better to fill the space with comics...oh I almost forgot the main reason things are better...it is very clean, open and organized now. I feel good going in there now. read more

I know many of you looking at this review are going to say; "Hey! The guy who wrote the review WORKS at Earth Prime Comics!" And indeed I do. As for the last review that EPC got, giving it 2 stars, I cant say is unfair. Before I worked there, I never went in. I was always adverse to the place. Then a few things changed. All the guys who were "Alleviating the goods from the store" were gone and some new guys took thier place. I was one of those guys. Roughly 3 years later and the store hasnt looked better if I do say so myself. We talk to people, help them find books they want to read or at least talk with them about the latest comic fad. Shady (the cat) is still there and in much better spirits than before I got there. She is now taken better care of and played with on a regular basis. We have a strong core of return customers and a good group of new ones always filtering in with the new college crowds. There is no more snooty atmosphere. If you dont know something about a book and want to ask? That's the most fun for me. I actually host an illustrators forum at our sister store, Quarterstaff games( I'm an illustrator and artist myself and have illustrated over a dozen game books, and done some comic book work), so I feel like I have some good insight into the world we all so dearly love; Comics. SO hopefully I can answer many questions you may have about the books or just the industry in general. I urge the nay-sayers to come back in and check us out for yourselves. Not only are the workers there rude they tend to be snobs, over a year ago i had a subscription there to about 27 comics a month. I let them know that i was getting married and would be gone for over a month with no ability to get my comic books. I come back to learn all my comics were sold and my sub canceled, i went back recntly to star a new one and they denied me.
