An awesome indie bookstore selling both new and used books. The selection of books was great and the prices were very reasonable. This store attracts book lovers, so I had a wonderful conversation about horror novels with one of the patrons. I then had another wonderful conversation about romance novels with the cashier. Go support a local bookstore and buy some great books. read more

Wonderful book shop in walkable downtown Burlington. Nice curation. Comfy chairs. Used and new books.

Always love a bookshop to peruse. Most of the books did seem to be new and reflect that pricing. read more

I try to stop in the Crow Bookshop on every visit to Burlington, so it's odd that I see I hadn't reviewed it. It's an excellent shop, friendly staff, good albeit not hugely extensive number of books in stock, with reasonable prices on the used and remaindered books. This is not just a used book bookstore, it bears emphasizing - they stock new, along with remaindered and used books. The used books are at most "gently" used, so you'll find everything in very good or better condition, and priced accordingly. They accept special orders. I almost always find something of great interest, even though my book buying is very selective these days. read more

A delightful used bookstore! Great prices, great selection, great energy about the whole place. Will continue to go back again and again to buy all of the books! read more

A VERY sweet bookstore, where a friend surprised me with the gift of "Crying in H Mart"! Different sections are clear and well set out. Also, lots and lots of used books at excellent prices! There was no real place to hang and check out the books (covid) which kind of stunk, but I certainly understand. Staff was helpful and willing to share their opinion when asked (appreciate that!). read more

Nicely curated bookstore with welcoming staff. Not a huge selection but a solid one with great staff picks and specialty selections. My first time in, they had a good range of books for pride. I can't remember what was featured when I went back ... just that I noted the nice display. read more

Honestly, we felt baited and switched with the many glowing reviews. In our college town of ten thousand fewer people than Burlington, we have several bookstores with a much broader and larger selection. This is widely touted as a "used" bookstore, and we know what that's supposed to look like: actual used books, priced to match. Crow's actual selection of used books is very small; most of the books here are new or close to, and with sticker shock comparable to a big city Barnes and Noble. It isn't a BAD bookstore, but we were expecting far better and far more cost conscious. Is it just that Vermont isn't a great place for bookstores? read more

Sweet little quaint shop around the area! I here are so many options for things to read if you are looking for variety!

Obsessed with this place still! The convenient location on Church Street is fabulous, and even though the square footage is relatively small they definitely make the most of it & you could still spend hours in here shopping. Prices for their used books are also very reasonable; that was mostly what I picked up this trip. I really liked the way they organized their staff picks section too; a blend of new books & used books, recent releases and older favorites. It was awesome to see! read more

Dear Brittany, Thank you for giving yourself a ten minute break from work to soak in all that is Crow Bookshop. From the skylight pouring in natural light to the used children's books marked at reasonable prices, your heart rate was at an all time low during your visit. Ah, the peace and warmth found only in a good bookstore. You were drooling over books that covered everything from Urban Homesteading and dinner parties to classic novels and travel books. You would have made a purchase had it not been for that $40 splurge of a hat you purchased earlier in the day at Urban Outfitters. Priorities, Brittany. Priorities. We'll save that discussion for another day. Love, Me read more

Selection is varied and extensive, knowledgeable staff, collection is in great condition, well organized, look forward to popping in next time I'm in Burlington. Highly recommended. At the north end of Church Street mall. Yes, I know it's time to get another bookcase. read more

Crow Bookshop - Bookstores Near Me - Burlington, Vermont

Cute bookshop, a little expensive! Very cozy and homey. Pretty large collection and cool rugs as well.

For some reason, I love to shop for books even more when travelling than I do at home; so I was thrilled to find Crow, which is practically the perfect indie bookstore. They sell new books but also many used books, most of them very gently used and very reasonably priced. I saw some familiar titles but over the course of half an hour's perusal, this shop revealed a knack for exposing me to works, authors, and topics that otherwise would never have been on my radar. I walked out with a few volumes, including a collection of essays which doesn't fit anywhere on my shelf but which I felt was an impeccable purchase for me. Isn't that awesome? read more

The Crow is another fab fixture of a wander on Church St. Their used book selection is great and in awesome shape. There are some great rare finds there. I can spend an hour or so sitting on the hardwood floors paging through old books. They are pretty fair about buying books. They can be sticklers about spine condition and page corners, but that translates to quality selection for purchasers. I have always sold at least 50% of what I bring to them. I've been very satisfied from both purchaser and seller perspectives. read more

Really great selection of books! Love the solid mix of old and new! Really kind workers as well! A great visit overall~

What an adorable book nook. Each time I visit, they have the (relatively obscure?) novel I'm seeking. During covid I used their website to order and the service was excellent. A pleasure to come here. read more

I was in here with a 5-year-old browsing the children's section. I had a nice little stack of books to purchase when the 5-year-old starting doing the pee-pee dance. I politely asked the clerk to use the bathroom and she told me they didn't have one. I asked where she went when the time came and she informed me in the private bathroom. I asked if the child could use that and she flatly and very smugly said no. Fuck you. I get you don't want the general public traipsing in and out of your bathroom but use some common sense when it comes to making exceptions. She went on to explain that the nearest bathroom was five blocks away and it would take me five minutes to reach it. Again. Fuck you. That's not even true let alone what a decent person would do. I went next door and the staff there was extremely polite and understanding of the little girl's dilemma and let her slip in and out of the bathroom. It took her less than a minute. We weren't even potential customers, at least on that particular day. I left my stack of books and don't see any reason to go back. No bookstore is that special to deal with that level of pompous scorn from a snot-nosed employee. read more

a mix of old and new -- but mostly new. on the pricier side which is expected in downtown burlington.

Downtown Burlington reminds me of my beloved Ithaca, NY where I went to college, and this used bookstore situated on a car-free street is no exception. Crow is filled to the brim with unique gems across all genres. I found some adorable books called French for Cats and Advanced French for Exceptional Cats as well as a recent novel called "Solos" that contains all of my interests packed between two covers--Brooklyn, language, Scrabble, pets, and a page-turning plot. These were quite serendipitous finds that I would be unlikely to encounter anywhere else, and that's what I love about independent bookstores. Because the cat section proved so dangerous to me, I didn't fully peruse the literature section. Still, an armful of books from here totaled about the price of one new book from the sterile Borders. The staff here was also extremely friendly and helpful. read more

Nice used bookstore. It's good cuz it's not loaded with used airport books, and actually has some literature and good reads. Also, it doesn't have a strong used-bookstore/wet-dog smell. I still don't know why used book stores smell like that. read more

Full disclosure: I worked here years ago. Regardless, I've worked at a bunch of bookstores (indie and not) and this is still my favorite one. Why? Well, it now offers used, remaindered and NEW books. It has outlasted all the other downtown Burlington bookshops (Borders included) due to an impressive selection in a cozy atmosphere, attentive customer service and an obvious love of the printed word. It's a great escape from the cold if you're wandering upper Church Street during the long winter months and is a welcomed respite from all the bland chains and high-end boutiques that seem to be taking over the formerly more eclectic pedestrian mall. It's rumored there may be another bookstore opening up on nearby Cherry Street, but I can't imagine it could serve the community any better than the Crow Bookshop has for the past 16 years. You can't improve on perfection! Caw! Caw! read more

Neat little nook on Church Street with a little of everything. A small collection of new books but is mostly used. If you're like me, you love feasting your eyes on the sections that always leave you with a handful of books to take home with you. Very well organized, good selection, and knowledgeable staff. Hidden gem! read more

Wonderful bookstore with a wide selection of new and used books! If I'm ever looking for a specific book I'll call ahead to see if they have it used. Great way to support local and shop green while saving money. read more

Found my beloved copy of JRR Tolkien's "Smith of Wootton Major and Farmer Giles of Ham" here. That being said, well, it's a used bookshop. Kind of a nice example of them in that there's plenty of natural light from the storefront windows, and the layout isn't a twisted maze of nightmares and mysterious gnome-sized doors in the walls. But a pretty typical used bookstore nonetheless. read more

I love a good bookstore and this is one of them. Well organized and well stocked. It doesn't feel like a second hand store because it had everything I was looking to find for my flight home. In return I bought a tshirt to commemorate. Score. read more

Very nice used book store right in downtown Burlington. The selection was pretty diverse and the prices were very low. I also thought it was well laid out which tends to be the weak point of many used book stores. read more

5 cheers for independent bookstores! The town must be brimming with interesting people because the gently used book I picked up was one of four I wanted to snag. A handsome, friendly and smart bookseller rounded it out as a terrific experience. read more

It's a cute little bookstore. I loved the feel of it and was able to find some good political books at good prices. Also, the condition of the books is pretty good even though they're used. The history section was a little small per region. I would definitely recommend! read more

Crow Bookshop - Bookshelves - Bookstores Near Me - Burlington, Vermont

A tiny bookstore filled with gems! Sugar Bear and I walked out with 3 interesting books. My two were about eating locally. His book was about the Civil War Battle in St. Albans, Vermont. Neither of us were aware that a Civil War Battle had taken place that far north until our visit to Vermont. We were unable to fit St. Albans into our agenda this round which really disappointed SB. He was delighted to find this book and read all about this Battle. Someone should make a movie! I digress...this is a wonderful shop and I highly recommend it! read more

I always stop by the Crow when I am in Burlington. The smell of the old books, the sound of the creaky wood floors, the great finds you can come across after browsing for hours... The Crow has great used books for great prices. Small shop, but it fits in with everything else on Church street and Vermont in general. If you are in the area and like to mosey through shelves of old books I suggest you stop in. read more

Some of the best buys I have ever found! The place smells weird (the books don't) and the floors make a scary creaking sound, and it takes a bit to find a great deal. Don't go looking for new books, but they can help you with your needs, unlike the monster store down the street (don't waste your time with B&N, unless you like magazines) The Crow has a great selection of used kids and "adult comics" no not what you think. Check it out. you won't be dissapointed. read more

I use to go here just about every week when I lived in Vermont! Now, when I visit, its definitely on my 'to do' list. Crow is a Burlington staple. They have such an awesome selection of used books in every genre and the people that work there actually read, as opposed to those at the big chain up the street. It's a rare day that I walk out of here empty handed. I carry my purple 'Crow Bookshop' bag proudly along the streets of Chicago :) read more

What a find! My friend and I stumbled upon this place while perusing Church Street (like every smart person should), and I am so glad we decided to go in! I have not ventured into many independent book stores (it's my new life goal to visit more, though) but this must be one of the best book stores I've ever visited. They have a fabulously curated selection of books - best sellers, local Vermont authors, history, non-fiction, cookbooks... you name it. I saw several books that I've read with my book club and they have excellent taste in books. I wished I lived closer because I would visit regularly. Add this to your "must visit list" for Burlington. read more

A cute little place to pick up some reading material while in the area. Like all of the shops there, this is small and quaint. It is quite cozy but has a good variety of all the books you may want or need. Everyone was very friendly there and helpful. I make sure I stop by here every time I visit Burlington, even on a quick in and out of the city. The store is cozy with a thoughtful selection. I can find new releases, old classics and a lot of unusual searches here. The used section is always a treat and I have found many great reads here. In addition, Crow bookstore's featured reads have guided many of my book journeys. I appreciate the service if this shop and intend to return soon. read more
