Local modern convenience shop in DTLA…read more Market On Broadway has a solid selection of beverages, snacks, miscellaneous items and more. I wanted to inquiry about the small selection of cigars they carried, but either the prices are in fact that astronomical or the clerk didn't realize there were already a few items still on the screen which was viewable from my angle. $52 for a single non premium cigar isn't even remotely practical. He mutter something about me people being cheap to the person he was on the phone with.... which is wild to be within earshot and also even more so to know cigars in the area at actual cigar shops and even other similar convenience stores are half or a third of what I was quoted. Definitely won't be back, but wish them well as they do have a nice set up and overall aesthetic. And aside from this poor choice in service and clerical era I will say most things are reasonable here.

I come there to work from my iPad frequently and one day, I needed to take a ZOOM call. The ONE umbrella was taken so I pulled a chair over into a shaded area. The security guard came over to tell me that I was not allowed to pull a chair into the area and that I had to put it back. He did this as my ZOOM call was starting so I hurriedly got up to move and my iPad fell and cracked. I stopped coming as much for awhile because I have seen other people move their chairs to find more shade in the past. Well PLEASE explain why I am here right now and this Asian man is not only allowed to move one chair into that same area but they HELPED him move several chairs and a TABLE to sit in the area that I was asked to move from. I have seen him here on several occasions and maybe he has closer ties? Who knows? What I do know is that what is good for the goose should be good enough for the gander. So if this area is prohibited to sit in, that should be applied to EVERYONE. And then when I tried to address with the woman who works in the office, she snapped at me after I asked if I could ask her a question. Her exact words: "About WHAT??" Once she led with that energy, I asked was she an employee (I have already been told in the past that she is) and she replied, "No, I don't work here." SO i left her alone even after she tried to clean it up by asking if I wanted to speak with the other security guards. I walked away and sat down to write this. But I also asked the security guard (DAVID) who originally told me that I could not pull a chair into the area why it was okay for the person that is sitting there now and he told me that it is because they are employees. He told ME that that are could not be blocked by the ONE chair that I pulled over into a CORNER but they have a whole table and several chairs set up as I type this. The woman who swears she is not an employee (SHE IS) came over to me trying to ask what I needed and I told her I was good and that I was leaving. She said, "Well you're complaining so..." and I cut her right TF off and told her that I was not COMPLAINING; I was asking a VALID question. She then starts talking sh*t telling me that I come there all the time to sit in the courtyard while purchasing nothing. MIND YOU, the local businesses at this location know me by name and/or face (Escala, Silverlake Ramen, Cap't Loui, Starbucks, etc...). This is also a place where transient/unhoused individuals come all the time to sit and rest so imagine saying something so insensitive not knowing what the situation may be. It is a public area and nobody is OBLIGATED to purchase anything. But I DO on a WEEKLY basis so perhaps Miss Girl can get her facts straight. But it's okay. I will be contacting management asap.

It's a small, quaint bar with a great happy hour as the marketing hook for the rest of the store. There are wines and beers (no spirits) available at the bar. There appears to be collectable spirits for sale in the liquor store. I say "appears" because my knowledge (outside of bourbons) is limited. The bourbons inventony (liquor store, behind the glass case) included Blantons, Elmer T. Lee, and several expressions of Weller, Maker's Mark, and Angels Envy. I read the reviews for Noe Restaurant and Bar and determined the Noe could be a good choice for a meal, but Gourmet Wina & Spirits would be a better place for a drink (or two). I was right. The beer price was phenomenal, $3 for a 12-ounce draft Stella Artois. It was the freshest-tasting pour ever. The owner, Tony, explained that they go through two to three kegs per day.

I believe this is harassment and retaliation for my unfavorable review. I was also told that Miguel de Alba learned the employee had spoken with me and then told everyone not to let me in. After the original incident, I stopped going to the store. I returned only because an employee approached me, told me Miguel de Alba was gone, and encouraged me to come back. That same employee later told me that Miguel de Alba had instructed employees not to let me in. I was accused of shoplifting and prevented from leaving the store. There was security-camera footage of the incident, so the owners can review it and see what happened for themselves. I believe it is unacceptable for a manager to ban a customer because of an unfavorable review, especially after the customer was accused of theft and prevented from leaving. I also believe it is unacceptable for management to involve employees and other store locations in what appears to be an ongoing effort to keep me out and punish me for speaking publicly about my experience. Because of these events, I no longer feel safe returning to this store or visiting other locations in my neighborhood. I believe the way I have been treated amounts to harassment. I still appreciate the employees who have treated me well and believe the food is good. My concerns are specifically about Miguel de Alba, the management, and the way this business has handled my complaint. I will not be returning or attempting to resolve this directly with Miguel de Alba. I am documenting my experience and would still welcome direct communication from the owner.
