But, before that, people would buy them from quaint little toy shops, just like The Cherry Tree in Southport. The shop itself is pretty small, but even the window displays are pretty to look at as they have a variety of different toys of all shapes and sizes looking out at you. They have a decent mixture of old-fashioned toys like pop guns and sheriff badges and more contemporary toys such as building blocks and dolls. Their focus is more on traditional toys than the new, shiny, noisy ones so if you're looking for a Megazord or a Buzz Lightyear doll then look elsewhere, but if you're looking for a beautifully crafted toy for a little one then The Cherry Tree is worth checking out. It was good because you could get a bag full of millions waaaaay before they sold them in those crappy thin packets like they do now (and for cheaper). These days, with the demolition of the cinema, Lord Street News has had to branch out and now it's more of a newsagent than just a sweet shop, offering a range of magazines and newspapers to all its customers as well as a decent selection of sweets (though not as good as they used to be). Bizarrely, they also sell children's toys (maybe something to do with their minimarket status on the window) as well as other bits and bobs you might think you need but don't actually. Somewhat creepily, there also appears to be some sort of doll/small children's clothing store underneath the shop, with their garments peaking out just above street level. Thankfully, small garments like these are not on sale in Lord Street News though.

Publishers Book Clearance is a discount book shop loacted along Southport Boulevard…read more As I entered this shop, I began to feel much younger again since I came across so many children's books from nursery rhymes to Roald Dahl. In addition to young people's books, they offer a terrific variety of fiction and factual books for teens and adults. Most of the books are really cheap and you can definitely find yourself a bargain or more. The shelves are packed full of colourful and interesting reads, that you could easily spend a while browsing around. There are also a collection of cute little toys for infants, so kids aren't going to get bored in here!

It is not surprising to see so many types of cards and gifts available for a shop like Clinton - quality at its best. Prices are however a little expensive but if you're looking to spoil someone with a special card or cute gift, then I guess it's worth the effort and value because this store packs a treat. Whether you're seeking a charming key ring, an Anniversary card or a sweet cuddly toy, Clinton has it all.
