We enrolled our son in this daycare sometime in Sept. 2024 (he was 1.5 years old), in the beginning it all seemed really nice, the staff were friendly and seemed to care about the kids. All that changed when one of the staff in the toddler class got fired because of alleged rough handling of one of the kids. After that, they seemed to always be short staffed, we didn't know which class to drop off our son, one time we would leave him in the infants area, next with the 3-year old, it was the same situation when picking him up, we had to walk all over the place to see where our son is. Additionally it's worth mentioning that every single day my son would come home with dirty face and hands, with snot all over his face, and almost every other week he was sick to the point that we had to keep him home. In few occasions when they were outside, we noticed kids playing with muddy water that had leaked from the drinking water fountain and had their faces in it and the staff would not interfere or stop the kids. we were fortunate to be on a waiting list for another daycare and my son's turn came up to get enrolled, but toward the last 2, 3 months in this daycare he didn't want to go, he was always upset during drop off and when picking him up, he would look upset until he would see us. All this, I do want to mention that I believe it is the management that is not good, the staff are most likely overworked and underpaid. If you care about your child's safety and health and if you have the means to not enroll him in this daycare, I would definitely suggest to stay away.

I can't say enough positive things about our experience with Montessori. I had a difficult time initially understanding how the system would work. Without structured lessons, how can your child earn the necessities like reading and numbers? It turns out that by allowing my son to spend as long as HE wants on a given activity he has flourished and gone so much farther than I'd ever imagined a child his age could in the subjects that most interest him. He's working with numbers in the 10,000s and can complete geography puzzles that would have me stumped. He spent months sewing yarn on square canvases to create a box, a little bit each day. I'm astonished by the focus and dedication a child under 6 can have to a project when allowed to work on what they choose, instead of at the teacher's behest. It's been a truly eye-opening experience about education. We are definitely Montessori converts and our 2 year old will be joining in the Fall. All the teachers and staff members are kind and attentive with many years of Montessori experience. They've encouraged my son to learn while guiding him through the lessons at his pace. He's excited to show me his work and takes pride in his accomplishments. It's been an awesome experience.

Once he was 4 years old he was able to transfer to St. Joseph's for TK. His teacher, Mrs. Mangas was great. My son was always excited to go to school and always came home singing the cutest songs. He learned SO much in that one year of TK. For kindergarten he was in Mrs. Ramirez's class and it was another wonderful experience. In his kindergarten year I really noticed his social skills developing and he was always talking about the friends he was making. One thing I also noticed is that they did so many hands on projects in Mrs. Ramirez's class. My son did have some behavioral issues while in kindergarten and Mrs. Ramirez was really great about discussing the issues and trying to brainstorm resolutions together after school. This was really helpful because I would do the same things she was doing to help him in class at home, and us being on the same page really helped him. My son is coming to the end of his first grade year and is now in Mrs. Schwartz's class. He loves his teacher and has learned an unbelievable amount of academics this year. They did a really cute play too! They also have an atrium that is sort of like a Montessori classroom set up where the kids get to go explore and learn through hands on activities. My son loves atrium. Another thing that he enjoys is his music class. I really like the smaller community and how involved all of the parents are in their children's success. St. Joseph's has been an amazing blessing to my family and I look forward to having my youngest start when she is old enough for preschool! I have no doubt that my kids are going to have bright futures after attending St. Joseph's!

If you are a…read moreyummy-mummy, can be a wealthy financial/volunteer donor or if you are a legacy family from the parish, St Josephs school will love you and you will love it. The teachers are wonderful and the education/curriculum is first-rate. If you are a working parent or your child needs any kind of individualized attention from the teacher (think dyslexia or manageable ADHD), the principal will cancel a parent/teacher meeting, reschedule it, and call you at work to come in you ahead of time to his office alone to give you a spiel. You will not be allowed to speak, and no spouse or teacher will be present. The current principal (10/2019) is an educator accustomed to, apparently, submissive behavior from parents and respectful compliance from teachers and students. His own child, he explains, has an IEP. But since private schools do not get funding as public schools do, it's quietly known that he invites parents to leave his school if an IEP is needed for a "nobody student". If you have Ivy League aspirations and a very compliant child, this is a gold-star facility. Otherwise, it will leave you confused and scrambling to find a new school home for your child halfway through the year, or whenever the principal has decided your child isn't worth the teacher's effort. In this case, please seek out the other private religious educational facility in the Redding area, or a Charter school. I'm cutting up my expensive St. Joseph shirts into cleaning rags tonight. My son is not beyond their teaching capabilities even if this isn't the era of nuns with rulers any longer. "Serviam", indeed.

After vising a few daycares/preschools in the area I decided to choose Kids and Me based off of the…read morecleanliness, the safety of having someone by the front door, the spacious indoor/ outdoor play area, and of course curriculum. Robin was a former teacher and is knowledgeable about what skills the children need to develop to prepare for Kindergarten. This of course was a major selling point for me. Robin and her staff genuinely care for the children; you can tell in the way they interact with them and the way the children beam in their presence. Additionally Robin is constantly working to provide the children with the best preschool experience possible. During the holidays and changing of seasons Robin would decorate the school to add a festive flare. Other times she would purchase new toys. She even installed misters outdoors for those super-hot days. She is always thinking of ways to improve her school. ((Thank you for that)) My daughter attended Kids and Me for a little over year and enjoyed the program so much that she begged to stay! Unfortunately for her, it was time to transition into Kindergarten. Teacher Marlena, Teacher Hannah, and Teacher Pam were in charge of my daughters care; they were all very loving and kind to my daughter. We will miss the staff tremendously.

Then fire the happened and we ended up having to enroll her in a place fast, a week before school started. We went to Kids and Me first and immediately loved it. Robin (the owner) was so friendly and welcoming to us. I called her to schedule a tour and she was flexible and able to work around our schedule. We ended up showing up without giving her notice and she showed us around all the rooms. Everything was incredibly clean and well maintained. You can tell that they keep the place well looked after and that they are spending the time to make sure everything is safe for the kids. We looked at a few other places but did not get the same feeling as how we felt at Kids and Me. My daughter, like most kids, took time to adjust to the new environment and people but it was clear that she was well taken care of and looked after. I was told that she was having a hard time during lunches. Robin took it upon herself to help my daughter feel better by letting her eat lunch in her office. She allowed my daughter to sit and eat lunch with her until she was more comfortable. She went above and beyond to help make my daughter feel safe and loved. I have also been extremely impressed with how much learning they foster in the classrooms. My daughter seems to come home every day with either a new word or song. She is 2 and a half and can tell me her shapes, days of the week, and colors. She can count items up to 15 accurately. She is thriving in her classroom and doing so well. The teachers are working hard to come up with different ideas and ways to help the kids learn and grow. It feels so much like a school and not just some day care that your kid goes to while you are at work. Also, the teachers are always willing to take the time to talk to you at drop off and pick up. I can always ask them about her day and never feel like I get a scripted answer (like "It was good.") but rather a detailed explanation of her day. I usually pick her up with they are outside and I always see all the teachers playing with the kids and interacting with them. They don't just stand around waiting for the next kid to leave. Overall, I could not be happier with our choice to put our daughter here. They are so kind and caring to all the kids. I would recommend this school to anyone looking for an academically rich preschool where the kids are well cared for and loved.
