They called and spoke with me twice about concerns regarding getting on the fort because of tides and the difficulty we may have climbing up a wall. They went above and beyond and we ended up taking a nice tour around the harbor instead. We will definitely use them again!

We kayaked, rented a pontoon boat from the campground for an afternoon (very reasonably priced) saw loon & a bald eagle. The campsite was a bit small (Site 113. 30ft trailer 1 slide) but we don't spend much time at the site so that was fine & not a prerequisite for us. Most sites were decent size. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. The snack shack( great fried dough), beach house, camp store were all very updated. Very nice horse shoe pits, bocce, playground & field if you have kids. The tent sites on the water were gorgeous with their platforms. A lot of seasonal campers who seem very friendly. Lots of golf carts around but relatively quiet. Lots to do in surrounding area as well. Only downs I saw was the bathroom near us was bit outdated but not unclean, (we use the RV anyways) and the WiFi was spotty and slow. But you're on vacation right? Already looked into booking for next year for a longer stay. Definitely recommend.

I have been coming here with my friends and family for over 10 years. It is the most peaceful and…read moreaffordable vacation you can imagine. Auntie Lunkers has 2 waterfront cabins and one chalet that is set back a bit. Our group usually rents all three for a week in August. The cabins are rustic but comfortable and every year there are some renovations, such as screening in the porches a couple of years ago to a split heat/AC unit in the chalet. It is a lot of fun just checking out what changes are made each year. The proprietors are extremely friendly and helpful. Next year I hope to see a ladder back on the dock, it's been missing for the last couple of years and that really helped getting out of the lake. There are several other houses and cabins on this section of the lake, and pretty much every year you can be sure to see a familiar face. There is also a motel at the top of the hill which has been closed for a few years but is opening again soon. The cabins sit on Highland Lake which is pristine. The property has kayaks, and canoes for the patrons use, but you can also rent a boat, jet ski or paddle board from in town and have it delivered to the lake. The town is really quaint with shops and restaurants that we visit every year such as Reny's where you can find anything you could possibly need and more, Bridgton Books which always has the best sellers and a proprietor who is always available for a chat, The Cool Moose which has moved from its former location across the street, and of course Ricky's Diner. For entertainment if you absolutely must leave the lake (which I don't recommend unless it rains) there is The Magic Lantern movie theater and pub. Every Sunday you could travel to Fryeberg for the Community Flea Market where you can find anything from a sword to an antique suitcases. The best time of all can be had sitting around a fire on the lake and looking at the stars with family and friends. If you need to get away from work and the hectic life in the city I highly recommend you grab a couple of books and head to Auntie Lunkers Lakeside Cabins!

We spent lots of time on the large screened porch, on the floating wharf, or on the dock around the chimnea. Mornings were glorious sitting lakeside in the sun or paddling on the calm water. The place was sparkling clean inside and out and came with everything we needed in the kitchen. Nearby restaurants were super fun and super good. Auntie (and Uncle!) Lunkers were wonderful to meet!

Trick or treating for the kids was a highlight for us as the little ones made it special. Dogs are welcome and even have their own beach. Seasonal sites as well as cabins and tent sites all not too far from the beach.

I had such great memories camping here as a kid, and it was so nice to relive them as an adult. It was just how I remember it, too. Very friendly staff, comfortable and clean sites and restrooms, and lots of things to do! The app that replaced paper schedules is easy to use and has all sorts of information on it that's helpful. There are so many activities. We didn't participate in very many but we did do the hayless hayride and tie-dye T-shirt making, and I made a beautiful spiral shirt with the help of Connor! During our week, the Grateful Campout event with Grateful Dead tribute bands was happening, and though we didn't purchase tickets we heard the music and it was awesome! The campground was nearly full, but was still very comfortable and relaxing. Camp store has everything you need during your vacation. I went in each morning to buy muffins, one of my favorite parts of camping here. They also sell homemade bread, whoopie pies and brownies (which I also snacked on), cookies, and creme horns, all homemade. Delicious! We also had a large pizza and mocktails from the Chub Pub Restaurant, and they were so good! We cooked the leftover pizza over the fire and enjoyed it all. The newly rebuilt Snack Shack serves breakfast, lunch, snacks, ice cream, and provides a huge interior picnic/activity area if the weather isn't great Staff are very friendly and willing to help, and they greet you like family. Amenities are plentiful as well. Restrooms throughout the campground, and two with full rows of showers. My only little nitpicks are that Restroom 2 was removed by the beach, and replaced with a few tiny private toilets and two small showers, which feel more temporary than permanent, and Restroom 1 also no longer has showers, meaning that side of the campground is nearest to Restroom 6, which is far from Otter Road and the outer areas. The shower heads in Restroom 4 take some getting used to, as they are just pipes that spray a stream of water, and may be better if they were replaced. We've already planned our next year's trip to AOW for two weeks, whereas this year we only did one week, which was not enough! Love it here.

My family has been going to Acres of Wildlife for many years. We made a lot of happy memories…read morethere, so it makes me sad that this will be our last. We always stay close to the store, large bathroom and playground so everyone is in walking distance. Unfortunately,this year was disappointing. They removed the men's bathroom and turned the women's room into a unisex bathroom. I have young granddaughters and a young female guest, so when I saw a man coming out of the bathroom they were in, I was very upset. When I asked the owner why men were in the women's bathroom, she said with an attitude, it's unisex now. I got an eye roll .There are no signs saying it's men , women, or unisex. I did not feel safe sharing a bathroom with men, and I certainly didn't feel safe letting my grandchildren in there. My grandchildren were terrified to go to the bathroom at night, and I can't blame them. We also had another issue. We rent a minimum of 6 sites every year. My daughter couldn't stay as long as the rest of us, but she wanted to hang out at the lake with her family before driving home. They had no problem with this in past years. This year, they were demanding she left by 12 even if she was on one of our other sites. I went to the office to book her site one more night so she could go to the lake with us, and her kids wanted to stay another night. One of the other adults was planning on staying on the site with them. They flat out refused to add 1 night even though I already paid for 20 nights between the 6 sites. They said it was a 2 night minimum. So I paid for the 2 nights on another site. Instead of relaxing at the lake, I had to move the tents and everything else from one site to another. What's frustrating is they lied to me when they said someone else was coming in on that site. That site remained empty. The entire campground was a ghost town. 90% of the campsites were empty. It makes you wonder why? This campground used to be sold out in past years. It's a shame. Kindness and loyalty to your customers goes a long way...or they just go some place else.
