I didn't get to try the food or even see the menu but there's an impressive looking kitchen so hope to return for that at some point (actually have now found menu online and as well as a grill they have a big sushi menu!!) Drinks wise, they had Antica Formula vermouth! The bartender had NO IDEA what it was or how to serve it but we quickly got the ice/lemon/appropriate glass sorted and although it might seem expensive at £4.50 for 50ml it's a good alternative to wine for an aperitif. Prosecco was £22 a bottle which wasn't bad either. I thought the ale selection was a little limited although and I couldn't work out what the microbrewery aspect was (curiously they only seem to have a wine menu even though they have an extensive amount of fancy sprits which you can't see properly). As the evening (Saturday) wore on it became increasingly busy and uncomfortable to sit at the bar with people bashing past you to get their order - they probably need to move some of those chairs on busy nights (/you might want to try another option - amazingly the market was actually quieter by that point!).

I think there were at least three carvery meal sizes to choose from. I opted for the large at about a tenner (£10) and I was able to choose from four different hot meats. The hot meat choices were turkey, gammon, pork and beef. I could have added £1.99 or so to get two pigs in blankets (bacon wrapped pork sausages) but I declined. I got two Yorkshire puddings with the meats and set off to choose my cooked vegetables from one heck of a choice; roast, mashed & garlic potatoes, stuffing, carrot & swede, roast parsnips, cauliflower cheese, Brussels sprouts (a real favourite of mine) lots more veg choices, Colman's English mustard (5 stars alone) a rich gravy, an onion gravy and I'm sure I left something out too. It would be easier to say what's not there and I can only think of pepper sauce. I'd been warned off ordering the mega carvery, which apparently includes a giant, plate - sized Yorkshire pudding that the rest of the meal is put into. As if it couldn't get any better they had real ale. So I had a pint of Abbot (I think) ale; they also had Old Specked Hen (they could call it Golden Years speckled hen). The prices are reasonable, the seats comfy and mega friendly staff, oh and there's lots of parking and a play area for kids. Well worth supporting.

Our server Alison was very friendly, we had a laugh with her and she was great at her job. We had a mixture of different starters and mains, favourites being the ham and eggs, the steak pie and butchers block.Prices were very reasonable and food very tasty, I would definitely return a nice atmosphere too for a quiet Saturday late lunch.

Also nearby is a Tesco supermarket. This was my first visit to Frankie and Benny's since an awful experience (once again...) at their branch in Rochdale, which is their closest store to me but after hearing that they had a new gluten-free menu when talking to my coeliac friends, I decided to give them a try while passing in Altrincham today. The gluten free menu here now is much more improved and actually excites me, it includes pizza and pasta and although the selection of pizza is quite poor and it is basically only three to choose from which is simply: BBQ Chicken Pepperoni and Chilli (American Hot) Posh Margharitta There also is a limited range of pasta, which they didn't have on my visit however the gluten free pasta is Fussli which is more swirled pasta, which I don't normally like anyway based on past experiences. They also had a nice selection of potato skins, I ordered cheese, tomato, red onion and basil. They were okay but sadly nothing more than that and I have had much better in the past. This store did have free wi-fi which was awkward to sign up to, and I also managed to pick up a 241 deal on the app which was good, so I do suggest you download it before you visit here. My pizza was okay, actually, it was quite impressive. It is the second chain I am aware of to use a square base rather than a circular one to show it is gluten free, alongside Pizza Hut, but of course it is a different base. My pizza was slightly messy and the sauce seemed to be coming off abit and the cheese didn't seem to be fully melted but it was okay, it was nothing too spectacular but it did suit my needs at the time in terms of a quick yet decent gluten free meal in Altrincham, but it certainly wasn't the best pizza I've had and wouldn't even come close. The parking situation here is quite tricky, as Sainsbury's was closing I did have to pay to park across the way and the cinema has no parking of its' own I'm aware of, so you might have to pay for parking depending on when you visit. Service was also below average, the waiters seemed okay but not overlay friendly or helpful. Average Average Average Maybe slightly below that.. That helps to sum this place up hence it deserves a mid to high two-star rating.

Frankie and Benny's certainly has its merits, especially if you have young children. They both cater to groups and families, they both create a restaurant 'experience' with games for the chidren, merchandise as well as party bookings. Despite receiving the recent accolade of 'Best Italian Restaurant Chain 2009' at the PAPA Awards (Pizza and Pasta Awards), I'm not entirely sure it would make my shortlist. I'm not saying that the food is particularly bad; the pizzas have a thin base and the toppings are generous, the burgers are huge and stacked with fresh ingredients. But to me it just isn't somewhere I would come if I wasn't with children who need entertaining! I'm sorry..

I went to a Spanish themed night, and gave them plenty of notice of my dietary requirements, which they said they'd be able to cater for. They lied. The menu was served on platters, and there were very few options for me; they didn't make alternatives, or even serve extra of the things I could have. I asked the waitress, who said the chefs were 'being funny' in the kitchen, and she eventually brought me some 'chicken curry', which was more like a chicken broth. The reason why I'm not giving 1 star is because the waitress tried her best under difficult circumstances and the dessert was among one of the best I've been served (good desserts without gluten and dairy are hard to come by). I had booked a place on the Arabian themed night, but the restaurant have informed me that they cannot cater for my requirements. No s***. This information would have been useful before they accepted my first booking on the Fiesta Hispana!
