At my 2-week post-op appointment and every appointment afterward, I repeatedly tried to explain how intense and persistent the pain was and how concerned I felt about it. Unfortunately, I left those visits feeling unheard and dismissed. I understand recovery from spinal surgery can be difficult and unpredictable, but as a patient, I desperately needed reassurance, guidance, and to feel like my concerns truly mattered. Instead, I personally felt like I was repeatedly told to "wait it out," even as the pain continued month after month. During this process, I was referred by Dr. Kalra to multiple different specialists in an attempt to address the ongoing nerve pain. However, after being evaluated, those doctors ultimately referred me back to Dr. Kalra regarding the issues related to my fusion and recovery. This left me feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, and unsure where to turn for answers or support. More than a year later, I am still dealing with the same nerve pain that began after surgery. This has significantly affected my quality of life. When I contacted the office again hoping to discuss the ongoing issues I've been experiencing since the fusion, I was informed that I was being dismissed as a patient and later received a certified dismissal letter from the practice. That was incredibly upsetting after trusting this practice with my care and trying for so long to advocate for myself. I'm sharing this only as my personal experience. Every patient's situation is different, but for me, the lack of support and communication during such a painful and vulnerable time was deeply disappointing. I called to make appt with Dr. Toulson but he couldn't see me that week and told me he had me set up to see Dr McKeller, his partner. I needed a medical clearance so I could resume physical therapy. Dr McKeller kept assessing at my rt leg and both the assistant and I kept telling him my phlebitis was in the LEFT leg. He then ordered an xray of my rt knee and said my knee looked great and discharged me. I thought he would call in the medical clearance and resumption of care orders to the PT but he didn't. My physical therapist said they could not resume without the clearance or new orders. Dr McKeller also had advised the reception staff to cancel my next follow up visit because my Xray of my knee looked good. I then had to set another appointment to see Dr Toulson to get new PT orders. At my appointment I complained that I never got the medical clearance or PT orders. He replied that Dr. McKeller said my rt knee looked good. Frustrated, I said my phlebitis was in my left leg, not my right leg and that was why you sent me to see Dr. McKeller in the first place...because you didn't want me to wait until I could see you. Then; to my detriment, I added, if Dr. McKeller can't tell a left leg from a right leg maybe he should retire. Dr Toulson immediately excused his staff assistant, got down on his knee in front of me had me bend my right knee backward to test my range of motion then advised me "I was going to be just fine". I could tell he was angry over my remark and expected him to address my rude comment but he instead just got up; asked me to follow him. He then walked me out to the reception area and told the discharge clerk that I was ready for discharge. The clerk asked when to schedule my next appointment and Dr Touls shook his head no and told him I would not need another appointment. The clerk said "but she" and Dr Toulson interrupted him and repeated I would not need another appointment then turned and walked away. Dr Toulson did not give me discharge instructions nor resumption orders for PT. I was stunned. I called PT and they said they had not received any new orders. They suggested I call my family doctor to get resumption orders. My appointment with my family doctor was almost 3 weeks away and I was extremely upset. I looked for my post op exercises from having my left knee replacement Zanesville OH the previous year and followed those exercises until I accomplished full function of my right knee. My family doctor did call in new orders about a month later but by then I found I was doing okay on my own. Thank goodness I had kept my folder from my Ohio orthopedic surgeon. I do have two really good knees but ultimately give credit my Ohio surgeon for my post op recovery on my right knee because Dr Toulson couldn't take hearing a negative comment from a frustrated patient. My recovery was ultimately good because I kept my post op exercise orders from previous total left knee. I am a retired RN and was the medical director over a Home Health and Hospice. I know that patients can sometimes become angry/frustrated and need a extra support or understanding when they are upset. I also know that sometimes these same patients can get out of line with comments and/or behavior and need redirection until they can calm down. However; they ultimately need to feel they can share their feelings when communicating a complaint and be supported while a plan to address their concern is completed. I don't feel my one agreeably negative comment was worthy of a full patient discharge early in my post op period. To discharge a patient because of one rude remark seems pretty petty to me. I could have been addressed for this negative comment about his partner but I feel discharging me without follow up care was reckless and inappropriate on his part. He's didn't send out a patient satisfaction survey after discharge so after much thought....felt like I could call and complain to Medicare or... just share my experience this way. Maybe another patient won't experience what I did or.... He will be kinder to his next frustrated patient and at least make sure they have a safe discharge plan.

When I returned for the selected treatment, she performed the procedure with great skill and professionalism. When I mentioned that the previous medication hadn't been as tolerable for me as I'd liked, she took action and called in a new prescription before I left. Well shi*! I don't know what to think about all of this. I'm the epitome of your average hobby…read morejogger nowadays. I moved to TX and with that, the old me is dead and gone. On any given week I'll run 0-40+ miles and have been experiencing foot pain from early this year prior to moving here. I went in thinking I had nerve damage, a Morton neuroma since my symptoms were pointing in this direction. Only to several visits (xray that apparently didn't show anything and was completely pointless + MRI) and many payments later find out I have a laundry list of issues. According to my mri I have a stress fracture, a fully detached plantar plate and a torn plantar plate in my 2nd, 3rd and 4th metatarsal along w various other issues. I'll be lying to say I wasn't in complete disbelief when I found this out. I stood there staring at the screen like this can't possibly be my foot we are talking about. It's cute hearing people talk about their jogs but have you ran a marathon, and various other races for the past 6 months on a broken, fully ruptured foot, if not I don't give two f's! This coming from a woman who has been in heels nearly everyday of every week for months on end. No wonder my left knee where I had arthroscopic surgery has been all out of whack, I didn't know I'd been doing this on some bum foot! I seriously can't fathom these MRI results are accurate and surgery?!!!! I'm getting a second opinion like any human would but have looked further into this center since discovering this. Most every individual has been in a boot and had surgery here. I don't like the idea of feeling like I've had zero care to actually treat any of my symptoms just visit after visit scheduled to collect payment after payment. Zero taping techniques provided or anything useful in anyway that would help other than trying to be shoved into a boot and other costly options. I'd be weary of the "care" or lack there of. I did break my left foot years ago and I'm convinced they are reading results saying it's fractured, on a 5 year old fracture. If it is fractured in addition to fully detached as shown to me and torn in other areas well, then that's just peachy I suppose my adrenaline since being here has increased my tolerance to pain because it's pretty insane to think of what I've done on this foot the past 6 months. Get a second opinion if you're going to come here but I wouldn't suggest this center. It's felt all sorts of sketch from the jump. Boots, surgery, infection, being nickeled and dimed. It screams insurance fraud or some sort of scam into trying to rob you blind and a push into going under the knife. The second I head cutting through bone, my head nearly exploded. Are you effing serious right now?!? I'm going to run Dallas marathon on this before any type of surgery whatsoever. The way I see it, if something's fully detached- then I can't detach it any further. I suppose if everything told to me is accurate it's time for me to take up the out of my tax bracket hobbies I've been putting off, hello needle pointing and mahjong!

I had a lot of neck pain and headaches due to spinal stenosis and degeneration of the discs in my…read moreneck; this had gone on for two years. I had a fusion of C 5-6 and C 6-7. Since the surgery my neck has gotten better so now I don't have the headaches I used to have every night. There is tightness of the muscles behind the fusion and some soreness but it is much improved overall and I look forward to a full recovery, which can take I think up to a year. I had no problem with the incision at all. For those who need this type of surgery, he was recommended to me as the best in Texas by one of my other doctors, and I highly recommend him. Dr. Denning is personable, relatable and kind. The office staff are as well.
