Very clean and spacious rest stop. They have vending machines here. Its very new looking inside and they have staff here that can help if you have questions about the area. One of the staff members gave us a brochure about the mural they have here. It is very beautiful and features mosaics of Missouri's Native Americans, Missouri River, Jesse James, Coleman Hawkins, Pony Express, Steamboats,, Lewis and Clark, Baseball, Jazz and wildlife in Missouri. Definitely stop off here to take a break and check out the mural!

This is an awesome rest area!!! Sure wish ghis was the NORM...but these are to far and in between anymore!!!!!

Let me start by saying we left! First, check in was very messed up. There was no one there to check…read moreyou in. There was a phone number to call and another gentleman had been there waiting 10 minutes. A cleaning person appeared from somewhere who called from his phone. The other gentleman spoke to them on the phone, but he couldn't register without a reservation he had to go online with his phone and make a reservation. When I spoke to her, I told her I was very reluctant to give her my credit card number and information over the phone and did not do so . She finally just told us the room keys were in a drawer in the kitchen area where there were probably eight sets maybe 10 sets of room keys I could've taken anyone she told us our room was 108 so I took those keys and we went down to the room. She had said we could check in later when she came down to the hotel from her home . Thinking there would probably be a phone in the room. I told her just call the room when she got there. There was no phone and she didn't say she couldn't do that. We went back out to the desk and there was finally a man there and I talked to him because our room door would not lock And he said it could be 20 minutes to an hour to get it fixed so he was going to put us in another room . Pet owners beware the smell in the room was overpowering. I could hardly breathe because they use plug-in air fresheners, and it was super super strong. I was not only afraid for myself I was afraid for my dog to stay there overnight I asked about a room where the air freshener was not as strong and he said all of his pet rooms were that strong, and said that maybe we should find another hotel, which we did and went across the street to the cobblestone Inn to a very nice room and very friendly people.

Never have I Ever!!!…read more I Rated this One Star only because negative numbers weren't an option My wife and I attempted a nearly midnight check-in after checking price & availability online before stopping Upon arrival, the online price of $73 + tax was verbally verified by the (then) jovial front desk clerk (note: the online price with all taxes was $79.xx) so we said we we would be staying When the payment total requested by the clerk was $100.86, we politely asked to see the details before paying, to see if the 38% ($28) increase was possibly due to additional taxes & or fees We were told "I'm not allowed to show you, you'll see it on your bill in the morning". After I said "what", he told us "you have 2 minutes to pay". I thought he was joking but when we balked at both of these statements, he completely changed demeanor and said "I want you to leave MY hotel NOW" I THOUGHT something was fishy. I also BELIEVE he MIGHT HAVE been cheating us & told us to leave after we questioned him by asking to see the payment details before paying. A formal complaint is being processed now. We went next door to the Cobblestone Inn & paid more, but we're treated well.

My recent stay at this hotel stands out by far above above the rest. After our first day of 12+ hours of driving during our road trip from Chicago to Arizona we called all the local hotels at 12:30AM to get a last minute room for the night. After calling nearly 5-10 nearby hotels (who didn't answer) we got an answer from - Mona Hensley from Mount Ayr Inn. Mona was amazing and in my opinion, truly understands & implements the core concepts of modern hotel hospitality: 1) Availability/convenience/responsiveness 2) cleanliness 3) basic necessities/amenities 4) fresh breakfast & friendly staff 5) competitive rates We were very grateful for Mona's kindness and immediate help during our hectic 30+ hour road trip to Arizona. We will never forget our wonderful experience at this hotel and will always compare our future hotel experiences to this one; as it is nearly the best hospitality experiences we've have ever had. Mona went above and beyond to make sure we had a comfortable & safe place to sleep that night, which you don't find that very often these days (especially with all the corporate owned hotel chains). Thank you so much Mona!!! Kris & Bea
