Viking Lake State Park is about an hour and 20 minute drive from Omaha. It's a outdoor destination…read morewith numerous recreational opportunities. A large portion of the 1,000-acre park has been left in its natural state and is abundant in wildflowers and plants. There's a 136 acre lake. Beavers, turkeys, ducks and white-tailed deer are often spotted at the park. Native American tribes once camped and lived in the area, based on artifacts found when the lake was built. It's a great place to see fall colors. In the summer time, you can swim in the lake by the beach. When I was there it was sunny but too cold for water activities, although my dog would have loved it. Dogs, of course, must be leashed. When I was there, the concessions were closed but the website says they sell bait, rent kayaks, and have a restaurant. I was there for leaf peeping but noticed they also have fishing. There are six docks. Bookguy would enjoy trying to catch bluegill, sunfish, catfish or possibly even walleye, all of which are stocked there. If you get tired of the campsite, you can head over to take a look at the giant coffee pot and cup in Stanton. These are the town water towers and are painted to reflect the town's Swedish heritage. Stanton is also the hometown of Virginia Christine, also known as Mrs. Olsen of Folger's Coffee fame. I guess the coffee pot is an homage to her. I suspect Viking Lake gets busy and crowded in the summer, but it was perfectly peaceful for me and my fur babies.

This place not only is small non-appealing hole off the interstate. They are unprofessional, liars,…read moreand down right sleazy. 1st the cabin was not a cabin it's an 8x12 metal shed, that is described deceptively. 2nd they failed to clean or do anything that reviewed the condition of the place before I arrived. Which I had to remove gum from the bed railing upon arrival, had to clean up dirt and leaves from the floor (it's not hard to sweep). 3rd I had a physical health (asthma) reaction staying in the place with breathing issues, due to the place being a dust bucket and allowing pets (undisclosed before rental) to stay with previous tenants. I called the office on the 2nd night, spoke with GARY, who said; "if you're having health issues I will credit you back the remaining stay!" I called him the very next day he stated the same thing. Almost 2 weeks later no refund. I called and then his story changed, after repetitive promises and now wouldn't refund anything. Then after he didn't like how I called him out for misleading (lying) he hung up on me. And continued to hang up each return call there after. Don't waste your time going to this trash bin beside the highway. If I could rate with 10% of one star that's what this place would get. Claimed Christians but certainly not holding to that standard.

The park itself is very laid back, clean, & no issues at all in the few months stay. All around great cost effective place. Honestly wish they had more small cabins set up to invite friends. Extremely happy with my stay.

Beautiful place nice people the negative was no one was in the office when we arrived. We called…read moretwice cause it says to call no answers and we finally found someone and confirmed. It was a 2 mile drive on well maintained gravel roads from the Hwy, the water pressure was very low, The site was not level, the site fire pit/ring was mangled up, but it was quiet there with all the other campers. The sites are a little tight. I have a 34 foot fifth wheel and anything longer might be difficult to maneuver. it appeared to have great play equipment for kids and tent sites but we're retired. it was very clean and green.

I will start by saying I do not review businesses - unless the experience was exceptionally great…read moreor unreasonably disappointing. That being said, this place falls in the later category. I had an extremely frustrating experience with this park. We originally booked an RV site directly through their website and later called to cancel, at which point we were told we could avoid cancellation fees by simply rescheduling our stay. We relied on that representation and moved our reservation to a later date. When our plans changed again and we needed to cancel, the park suddenly refused to provide any refund at all, despite their published cancellation policy and despite the fact that we were prepared to pay the stated cancellation fee. At no point when we rescheduled were we told that doing so would supposedly eliminate our right to a refund later. If we had, I guarantee we would have opted to pay the $50+ cancellation fee rather than risk the $300 full price. What made this even worse was the way the situation was handled and the "reasons" behind their decision. We were told the reservation had not even been properly updated in their system and had only been written on a calendar, and they used their own internal decision/mistake as justification for denying a refund. Also, due to them "holding a spot for us for almost a year" even though their website showed multiple RV sites still available for the dates in question (which I looked up while I was on the phone with her,) they insisted that didn't matter..."they held a spot"...which is the entire point of a reservation. I often have hotels and other reservations that are booked months in advance without issue as long as the published policies are abided by. The conversation was dismissive, unhelpful, and ended with us being told there was no one else to speak with before she hung up on me. Based on this experience, I would strongly caution others before booking here, especially if there is any chance your plans might change. We have also filed a complaint with the BBB.
