Do yourselves a huge favor and avoid him. And another thing. Always check the filtered reviews. A member of our party checked his Yelp reviews and saw none. (didn't know reviews were filtered). This was by far the worst guided fishing trip i have ever been on. When we booked the trip i had spoken with Darrel about my parties interest in going for Halibut and Ling Cod. He had told me we would fish for both. after a ten minute boat ride, we tied off to an anchor for 6 hours and had 1 bite the entire 6 hours. We did not move once. Darrel was polite enough when he wasn't on his cell phone speaking to other guides and learning about where other fish were biting but still we sat in the same place. After not catching anything Darrel didn't even offer an apology for not catching anything. We all felt cheated at the end of the day and will never use Eagle Point Charters again. Nick read more

SCAM ALERT, dont believe me read all these posts. Sadly I imagine each year he closes his business and reopens the next year under a new name. They claim to have been around for some time... but I cant find anything from last year and all these reviews are for fishing trips after mine. Darrell is from what I can tell the owner/operator. He sounded like a nice guy on the phone and very accommodating. I booked my trip in late February or early march. Half the money was deducted then and the remainder early May for my Saturday afternoon May 14th trip. It was a trip for 6 people fishing for halibut and prawns. I received a call from Darrell around 5:30 am the morning of our trip making sure we had not left the house yet; apparently he forgot we had a 1:30pm meeting time. He claimed he damaged his boat with some customers the day before, worked through the night trying to fix it but had to reschedule our trip. I tentatively agreed to this but would need to check with the other 5 before anything is finalized. Finding that we couldn't get another time to do it I told Darrell and he agreed to a full refund, this was on the 15th of May. And I have it in writing. After 3 ignored emails and some ignored texts and phone calls I have had no refund. He has all the information needed to do so but with no results. So Darrel, I hope you read this because I will be sharing it everywhere I can until you have settle your debts. See you soon, and don't ignore the mail any time soon because you will more than likely be receiving notices from banks, credit agencies, insurance companies and the state. Would NOT recommend this guided fishing service to anyone. This by far the worst (and only negative) fishing experience I have ever had after deep sea fishing in four states. The owner/guide was friendly and accomodating on the phone but nothing like that in person. After checking in the day before our trip, we were then jerked around for almost a day about whether or not we'd be actually going...this had nothing to do with weather as it was a rare sunny, 65 degree day. I was left in limbo with four other passengers wondering if we'd be going fishing at all. When we arrived at the marina, we weren't greeted as paying customers....he didn't introduce himself, smile-anything. We introduced ourselves to him and were eager to get fishing and were completely taken aback by his unfriendly nature and unwillingness to talk to us at all. Darrel was annoyed and irritated to even be taking us out of the water and made the entire experience a horrible one. After being charged a pretty penny to fish the San Juan Islands, which we were greatly looking forward to, we fished not even one mile from the marina slip where he parks his fishing vessel....the entire time. You'd see more of the area on the ferry. Looking at the houses surrounding the marina was not the fishing experience we wanted, were described, or expected. The guide was not only rude and extremely ungracious the entire time, but proceeded to complain about his ongoing divorce a good portion of the time when he would talk to us, and spent most of his time on his cellphone. Sorry about your personal life, but not exactly what my family wanted to listen to. We have always had upbeat fishing guides who wanted to be on the fish and were excited to help their customers catch fish,...this one was anything but. After not moving the boat once in six hours, the only saving grace was we lucked out weather wise. We were never even given basic safety instructions regarding the location of lifejackets, which didn't seem to matter since we didn't go far at ALL, but we did have a young child aboard, so it seems like it would be a responsible thing to do. None of our party expects to be guaranteed to catch fish, but when you pay for a trip you hope for a positive experience regardless and this was not it. I hope to prevent others from making the mistake we did when booking this trip as Darrel obviously doesn't need the paying customers. Eagle Point Charters has definitely lost repeat fishing customers as we were looking for someone local to take us and visiting family out a couple times each year. For now, we will keep looking and hopefully find a good recommendation of another charter business. read more

Captain Darryl is a real piece of work. He cancelled our trip the morning of because of fog. I could almost understand that except his attitude about it clearly indicated that he just didn't feel like going. Within 2 hours the fog had completely lifted and we had clear blue skies with almost no wind. Would have been a perfect day. We had driven over from Spokane the night before (6 hours of driving) so this was a real disappointment. Should of checked his reviews before booking as many other people have said that he cancels frequently. Don't waste your time with this guy. read more

On a charter last August with a couple from Bellingham, Captain Darryl's language was certainly not appropriate with two women on board. 5 hours, 1 fish. Needs to go to charm school! Terrible behavior with NO regard for his customers. read more

Would not recommend this charter. This was a strange fishing trip to say the least. The trip had been booked almost a month in advance and then the morning of we were told that we might want to go out the following day after significant logistics to bring the family together for this trip. We were left in limbo as to whether the trip would even occur. Finally, we were called back from an annoyed fishing guide named Darrell. At lunch near the pier we were told that we would go ahead with the trip via his cell phone while he was out on the water with another group that booked the morning trip. Mind you, we had already had our CC's charged and now backing out wasn't a viable option until we at least went to the dock. When we did show up we stood at the top of the peer with 2x small childeren, grandparents all in tow and when Darrell finally looked up from the back of his boat after a few minutes and yelled in an unfriendly tone, "Hey! come down here." We looked at each other and thought, what is going on here? If I had a family that was excited to go fishing, I would have at least said hello. It was awkward and I wasn't sure until I found out from his long stories about his divorce, and awesome lawyer he had why he was so negative and unprofessional. Guy needs a break. Called my father in-law and myself Chief anytime he addressed us. At least it was a great day and being on the water was awesome if it weren't for the negative Captain. Skip this place and find another, we found the bottom of the heap. Can only get better than this. read more

Rip off alert! 6 of us booked this charter many weeks in advance for 05/29/11 to halibut fish. We traveled to Anacortes the night before, stayed in a hotel and got a call from Darrell on our way to the marina early the next morning. He gave us a song and dance about bad weather and wanted us to "hang out" for a few hours to see if it got better. He actually sounded like he was still in bed after a rough night and didn't feel like working that day. Since we aren't stupid we checked the weather and it wasn't going to be bad. It was actually a pretty decent day weatherwise. We were about to tell him to stay in bed and try to get on another charter when he showed up. No greeting, surly attitude, completely unprofessional. He took us a few miles off shore, tied up to a buoy and there we sat--all day. We caught some dogfish, but no halibut. He spent a lot of his time talking on the phone-I heard him make some comments on the phone about us that I didn't appreciate. This was an expensive trip for us and we all feel like we've been ripped off. He obviously couldn't have cared less if we caught anything-he made no effort to do his job by guiding us to a place where we had a chance to catch a halibut or trying different methods to catch a fish. We can't recommend this charter and we won't ever be back to this area. read more
