Overcharged Parts. My check engine light was on, and I needed a smog cert. The vehicle is a 2007 Acura RDX. First estimate $523. They found it needed a MAP sensor. Invoice Final bill $1,064.49. Parts: $481.00 sensor. It passed, and a week later, the check engine light was back on. Now it needs a turbo waste-gate replacement. When looking into this repair and costs, I found the MAP sensor did not cost retail of $481. At NAPA it is $312, $169 less. At Autozone $264, $217 less. O'Reilly $284, $197 less. I gave EZ Smog a shot and they did their due diligence found out the correct information about the vehicle and then smogged and passed my car. None of the other places seemed like they wanted my business but EZ Smog went above and beyond to help me out and get it handled. Listen, I don't understand why this place receives anything less than 5 stars. It's my go-to smog check place. Every employee I've ever worked with has been kind, friendly, and knowledgeable. The smog check is lighting fast, so I'm in and out rather quickly. They give a discount if you hang on to your previous receipt (and maybe one for calling ahead). Lastly, they make sure that you know everything you need to know to finish the smog/registration progress and not get scammed online. They'll have my business for as long as they exist. read more

I've been to this shop before and they have completely change the way they run their business. No longer is it business oriented and more like stealing your money and hope for you to go through them once they hit you with fail test result. Besides the car being able to pass a smog check with aftermarket catalytic converter, they went ahead and not pass the smog check because of a visual inspection that the catalytic converter is an aftermarket catalytic converter and does not meet California regulation. I get it. It's an aftermarket catalytic converter, but the car can pass a smog check, though Alex, was able to see that the catalytic converter was not OEM He still proceeded with the regular smog routine. An honest repair shop would have said right away. Hey I can't do this. I won't charge you because you have an aftermarket catalytic converter that does not meet California regulations and let me get my money back. Again the converter is an aftermarket catalytic converter. Clearly he saw that it was an aftermarket catalytic converter and yet proceeded with inspection and charge me anyways $140 for really nothing. I'm truly disappointed with this company and I encourage new visitors, newcomers, new guest new clientele to not go to this place as is dishonest and unfair. Be aware! Horrible experience. I called Alex minutes after leaving and he answered and said that he was doing a test drive and that he would return my call as soon as he was done. He never did. I called Alex, the next day to get a price quote for new catalytic converter. The one that meets California regulations and for labor I asked him how come he had not called me back yesterday laughing he said he got busy and basically forgot about me. I don't know if Alex, is on drugs or he just doesn't know how to talk to people, but obviously I'm going to ask for the catalytic converter that meets California regulations and not an aftermarket catalytic converter. Must read, I wish I can give this place a lower score. This place isn't no "EZ Smog". I came here to smog an older vehicle. Everything went well until the final part of the smog. After paying $160 for smog I was told their machine is down and I was asked to return back Tuesday after new years to complete the smog. Tuesday 1/2/2024 I called in to make sure I'm still good to come in. Jj told me machine was fixed but will have to come back tomorrow. It's now Wednesday 1/3/2024 and I got here around 3pm. After running smog again the same machine is down. I asked for a refund that way I can go else where and Mike (the owner) says he cannot give me a refund to come back tomorrow morning. I asked why I can't get a refund if your machine is down. Had I knew that last week when I came in I would of went to another place. He told me that the state has them using this machine which isn't my problem. I paid for smog check and can't even get that. It's now 5:45pm and I'm still here waiting to speak with Mike. He says we can speak after 6pm. After Mike finally took a look at my car it is now 7:30pm. He said it failed. Which if crazy because it's passed with flying colors past 2 years and I only driven the car a hand full of times the past 2 years. He said all the numbers look good but still failed my smog. This was the best experience I have ever had with a smog testing site. I called the day before to make an appointment and was told not needed. I can just show up, however between 11-2 is his busiest time. So I show up at 9am and he was already helping a gentleman. So I waited about 10 min for that test to be done and then another 10 for my test. He was polite and very friendly. Help talk through pending errors with another guy while he was testing my car. ZERO STARS! This guy swindled my elderly mother. He charged for everything. The test is one price, then he charged labor - what? To plug the computer in? Then he said he needed to drive it to clear some codes, so asked her to leave it overnight. He charged for storage, labor, and fuel. After almost $700, nothing was accomplished and he said it could cost over $1000 to diagnose. According to the BAR, any legit smog place would have diagnosed it for free. We took it elsewhere and they diagnosed an electrical problem after they changed the terminal heads and cleaned the connections - all FREE. We changed the battery, did the drive cycle to clear the codes (we have an OBDII monitor), and took it to a reputable shop - it passed for $60, including certificate. read more

If you have a gasoline car, it looks like this smog station is fine. But if you have a diesel, we'll.... this smog station is an absolute joke. If you have a diesel vehicle, FIND ANOTHER STATION. I brought my 2015 VW Jetta TDI for a smog check prior to sale. The vehicle is under warranty, purchased certified pre-owned with only 5 months prior with only 40k miles on it. All of the emissions recall work completed by the dealer in March. Mike, at EZ SMOG, failed the smog test and cited that the emissions system has been "tampered" with, that the DPF filter had been cut out and a "straight pipe" put in its place. His attitude on the phone was smug and condescending, accusing me of bringing in a vehicle with tampered emissions, all while claiming that the dealer "doesn't know what they're talking about". Mike also claimed that the vehicle was missing emissions stickers required by law. Despite providing proof that the vehicle was emissions complaint, Mike refused to pass the vehicle. I had to spend the next three hours not only searching for more paperwork to prove that the vehicle was compliant, I had to drive 25 miles each way to the nearest Volkswagen dealer, only to have that dealer lift up the car, show me the DPF filter right where it's supposed to be, and tell me that the modifications to the exhaust were done by VW themselves, adding in another sensor to make it emissions compliant, something Mike didn't even bother to notice. I recorded the Volkswagen technician on video explaining all of these things to show to Mike. The technician also told me that the DPF filter has been in the exact same location since the vehicle was built in 2015 and all diesel jettas prior to that going all the way back to 2008. I brought the vehicle back for a retest and showed Mike the video and the DPF under the hood in plain sight. I also showed him both stickers he claimed were "missing" right there, in plain sight. Despite all this, Mike proceeds to inspect the vehicle multiple times over like I modified it. "I've never seen a DPF before the cat before"and "this is why you shouldn't buy a Volkswagen" were the lame excuses I got after all this. No, this is why you shouldn't go to an incompetent smog station. This guy clearly has no idea about diesel emissions systems. TDI's have been around for a while and this level of incompetence is just horrendous. No apology at all for how he spoke to me or for wasting hours of my time. Do yourself a favor, take your vehicle elsewhere. All I ask is that if you're not sure, or don't know what you're doing, just admit you don't know, rather than accusing me of making modifications to my car, when you can't figure something out. There was no apology from Mike, something that you would expect from any basic customer facing company. Please do not advertise you can smog diesels if you don't know what you're doing. Or at least get some training so you know for the future. read more

This place rips off the community. They said they set their prices as they wish charging people a whopping $128 for a service that is $70 at most Smog shops. They go on and on with so much detail to make you dizzy and think they are giving you something you need. Go to Southport Smog a star station in West Sacramento instead that is honest and quick and charges the correct legal amount for a state mandated smog which they charge at $70 bucks with your certificate. At Southport Smog all smogs for old trucks old cars past 1991 are all the same price at $70. At EZ smog he was telling me my car was so old that's why he has to charge $128 dollars for a 1991 truck and do all these extra things. Big fat lie. Just ripping people off. I mentioned their pricing was unfair compared to all other shops and when I mentioned I was going to place a complaint with the BBB they went off if this is what they said to me over the phone how would they treat me when I was there is person. I went here two days ago trying to get a smog... yes, I was there before the guy tries to say I wasn't a customer and he has no record of me like he does for every bad review he gets... he has no record because when he says the price people grab their paperwork and leave... when I asked how much for a smog I was quoted $140!!! Stay away from this shop. They run this shop as daytime robbery from innocent customers. Took my diesel truck for smog test, paid all required fees of $128, test failed and was advised by tech to drive # of miles and come back for re-test with a discounted rate of $68. Once the smog re- test was completed, the shop charged $108 for the same pickup truck, when asked why the charges are more, Mike made a bullshit reason stating there was a different driver for this truck then last time and told me to F*** Off from the shop and he ran back, as Mike didn't had valid reasons. This shop has violated CA business and professional codes and now I am in process to file legal claim against EZ smog shop. read more

Tried to go get my car smogged here today. I have a '99 Lexus gs300. Right when I walked up, first thing he said was has the exhaust/cat been touched(outside of my car has been modified. But everything under the hood is oem)? I said no. But the guy kept on asking if I did or not, I guess assuming I was lying the first time. Then he goes to look at my car and comes back saying it's too old?! Lol never heard of that excuse before. I'm assuming he thought I was a young kid with a modified import(I'm in my mid 30s). Stopped in for a smog check, did not call ahead or make an appointment. They were not busy when I showed up and the owner did the smog check in about 5 minutes. Owner was friendly, helpful and I have no complaints, but it did cost $108, which is significantly higher than the shop I've used in the past, but closed. Sign on the wall says they charge an extra $20 for drop ins without an appointment, so call ahead for an appointment and check the prices. He offered a discount the next time I need a smog check, so I may be back. read more

Since I had paid my registration prior to smogging, he recommended I call an 800 # to DMV to a live person and ask if they've received everything. If you want to get ripped off bring your car here. I've been here several times over the years and never had a problem until April 2019, apparently it's changed ownership. I had a dead battery that cleared the codes and brought my car in without knowing the codes had been cleared (my fault). They ran the smog test it failed due to no codes. So they said drive it 300 miles bring it back and we will give you half off, we will also connect it before we run the test to make sure you have driven it enough before we charge you again. That's not what happened at all when I came back, first they tried to charge me the full amount, then they went ahead and ran the full test without connecting it to the obd tool to verify it was ready to test. Then said that'll be another $38, yea not half price either. First time charge was $68, second time was $38, so a total of $106 and still will have to take it somewhere else to get it cleared. I'll never be back here, you have lost a customer that would have been a customer for life over $38. I'm a small business owner and I hate to write this but you can't lie to your customers. Even if it's a small amount of money you had to lie to make it and rip me off. read more

Went in today 5/14/2014 for my Smog Check. First time ever getting a smog as I've only lived in California for a couple years now. Everything went great. 15 minutes in and out as advertised and I passed! $65 with the $10 coupon for a $55 total. They were very courteous and lots of magazines in the waiting area. I think the people who left the 1 star reviews likely failed the test and blame the facility instead of their vehicle. All my future smogs will be here! read more

I had a great experience here today, well as great as one can have when getting a Smog test done. I was in and out in 15 minutes. I did go at a likely slower hour (3 pm on a Monday) and that may have helped. I prefer to wait for my car when a Smog test is done and they had a clean waiting room, no frills but it was fine. The guy running the place was really nice. I believe the charge was competitive as I was charged less than the shop I went to 2 years ago and less than the shop I went to 4 years ago! Both of those previous shops being in West Sac. I drive a 2006 Subaru, a car likely never to fail a Smog test, so that is always helpful for a successful outcome too. read more
