I shared a room with one of my sisters who was getting the prenatal massage, and while my bed was heated, it got so warm that I started sweating and had to ask them to turn it off. A male masseuse came in to work on me, which I personally didn't mind, but I do think they should ask clients their preference beforehand. As for the massage itself, it was just okay. I usually leave feeling completely relaxed, but this one didn't really do that for me. The techniques weren't great, and some of the small touches I've come to expect, like a head or scalp massage, never happened. When he moved to my legs and feet, he put on gloves, which honestly made it feel awkward and less soothing. There were a few moments where I felt more uncomfortable than relaxed, which kind of defeated the whole purpose. My sister's prenatal massage was another disappointment. About 20 minutes before her session was supposed to end, the masseuse told her she was finished and asked if she wanted to wait outside or stay in the room and rest. That meant she only received about 55 minutes of her 75 minute session, which felt really unfair considering we paid for the full time. The checkout process was the final straw. I was told there's a $1 per person fee for paying with a card, which already felt unnecessary. Some weeks I need deeper work and she will really get into everything and work it out. Other weeks I need something gentle, calming and restorative, and she immediately adjusts. She seems to know when to work deeper, when to slow down, when to stretch something, and when my body has simply had enough. It honestly feels like she listens with her hands. My husband sees Amy and absolutely loves her too. We both leave feeling like completely different people. It has become something we genuinely look forward to every week and part of how we take care of ourselves. We've tried the cupping, facials and other treatments too, and have loved all of it. Instead, Jessica responded that "harder is better pressure" and continued using hard pressure despite my requests. I am extremely disappointed that the establishment recommended Jessica after I specifically asked for someone who could provide medium-to-gentle pressure. I would have much rather been told that no one available that evening could accommodate my preference. Instead, I left feeling as though getting me in for an appointment was more important than listening to what I was actually requesting as a longtime customer. If Samantha had been there, I would have felt comfortable speaking with her directly about my experience. The reason: Zenia is an independent contractor and therefore it has nothing to do with them. Why does Thrive Salon get to benefit from advertising her services, which increases their business/bottom line, but claims no responsibility? After informing Zenia that I was going to file a claim with the BBB did she finally respond to me and my son. The kicker is...she wants more money for an in-home appointment, which is what she can offer right now, as she has no studio. I want my $240 dollars back, as we would never feel comfortable using her service, nor have her in our home.
