This place is actually pretty cool, and considering you're in a university town, attracts a bit of an older crowd (mid twenties rather than early twenties). Expect your typical nightclub music (top 40, R&B, hip-hop, you know the drill). The drinks are not too over priced and I've never paid more than $5 or $6 for cover. Beware if you're new to the city, the cab situation at the end of the night in this city is atrocious. Don't plan on getting one too quickly, and if it's major party night (Halloween, New Years Ever, frosh week, etc.) plan alternate transportation home from the bar because changes are if you don't, you'll be walking. Anyway, check this place out if you're in town and looking for a night club.

Words cannot describe my frustration regarding my attendance at Apartment 58 this past weekend…read more It was my birthday party, and as the birthday girl I decided to try Apartment 58. My 18 friends and I headed downtown and got to the bar at around 11:15. Obviously at this time the bar was rather dead, with about 30 other people in the bar besides my group. My girlfriends and I went to the bar, grabbed a few drinks, and made our way to the DJ booth to request a song. We stayed near the booth and danced, only to be stared at for 2 hours by a complete creep leaning against the wall. This guy didn't have a drink in hand, nor was he dancing- just staring. A couple of my friends were feeling very uncomfortable, and being the most outspoken one of the group I decided to approach security about the matter. Boy was this ever a mistake. I explained to security guy number one that some of my friends and I felt uncomfortable and asked if he could tell the guy to stop staring at us. I saw the security guard approach the man, only to be tapped on the shoulder by security guard number two. After waiting about 5-10 minutes I noticed security guy one & two traded posts. I approached security guy two and told him the same story as the first. His response was terribly upsetting. I was told that the creeper was a regular and that he wasn't doing anything wrong, so technically there is nothing they could do. At this point it was about 1 in the morning, and the bar was filling up. I decided to make eye contact with the creeper, and mouthed the words "no, no, no" while waving my index finger. 5 minutes later I was approached by security guy two and told to stop staring at the creeper. I said to security "he can stare at me and my friends for 2 hours but I can't look at him?" Another 10 minutes passed and I was approached by a female bouncer- she was by far the most professional. She said that she was told by security I was causing problems with gentleman on the wall. I explained to her not to worry but that security guy two had already informed me that he as watching me closely- I decided to point and wave at guy number two. The bouncer said that everything was fine, but just for me to cool it. Right before my friends and I decided to leave, security guy number one pulled my friend aside and said the only reason he didn't kick all of us out was because my friend and boyfriend looked like they were having fun. Please note they were dancing like goofs trying to make me laugh because I was on the verge of tears. My friends and I will never, ever be going back. Apartment 58's security guards and regulars are complete low life's. Spare yourself the aggravation and find another bar. I was completely sober at the time and was suffering from a low blood sugar and even in that state I was speaking fluently and having a full conversation with the bouncer who said I couldn't speak, I told him the issue and told him I was sober and offered to do any sobriety test even straight line walking, eye tracking, any thing he required I was willing. However, I was told the decision had already been made based off of me talking to my friend in the line in which I didn't stutter, slur or show a loss of balance or intoxication. I was sober and with friends who vouched and can vouch that I was fully cooperative and was appalled by the bouncer who showed such a lack of empathy and understanding to people with my condition. I was severely disappointed as I was looking for a place to hang out with friends and enjoy some food but instead I was greeted with discrimination and ablism. I expected more out of this business from all of the reviews however, I was disgusted by the way I was treated and denied any food/drink to help cure my low blood sugar and the bouncers ignorance about the conditions that people face. If I could give 0 stars I would I am disgusted by the way this establishment carries itself.

Went down there on Feb 29/24, lights off, doors locked, no 'back' entrance that I could see. I called their number, it went to a MITEL ANSWERING SYSTEM, and am still awaiting a callback. Today (Mar 1/24) I called their Toronto Queen and Hamilton numbers. All went to MITEL ANSWERING SYSTEM. Still no callback from ANY location. I don't know if the DJ was the same but the music was awesome both of the times, keep the good work!!! The staff is friendly; the bartender told me Rye and ginger is the most drank combination, so when in Canada do as they, just watch out, tastes smoothly but hits you hard, well maybe after the 4th. This second time a guy had the amazing touch of sending me a drink (thank you!!). This time I arrived too early, people started showing up around 11:30. A bizarre anecdote: a lady approached me, booty bumped me, asked where I was from and left. A cool thing: while dancing a luchador appeared with lights in the shoes. For a moment I felt I was dancing in Playa del Carmen. I'll be back!!

When we arrived we noticed there were almost no cars in the parking lot, so we weren't completely shocked to discover there were almost no people inside this amazing space. We decided to give it some time, and we waited until almost midnight, but only three or four small groups filtered in (and 75% of them went over to the Latin-inspired club on the other side). The music was great, and exactly what you'd expect from a 70s/80s club, but there was no one to dance to it. The drinks weren't cheap, but again, if there would have been a crowd to dance, it would be a price worth paying. Same goes for the cover charge - we would have gladly paid to join the party had there been one. We felt like we found the holy grail in our quest to find a perfect 80s dance club based on the looks, but like the grail, maybe the most of us Gen Xers are becoming relics who are too old to go out and enjoy this amazing space that harkens back to our prime young adult years.
