I was going to get multiple quotes but due to the lack of timely communication from other contractors I went with Heartland! The bathroom was tiled and grouted it turned out even and Symmetric. Very pleased with how it turned out There was an opening between the bedroom and bathroom left over from the removal of a small closet. The new wall installed was finished to match the texturing of our bedroom! Lastly, we needed a new doorway cut out in our bedroom wall for a closet. The doorway is very nicely finished, clearly he took time on the installation. My only complaint is there was no threshold installed but as it is a closet door that's not a big deal. The thing I am most pleased about is there was some pre existing drywall damage in the bathroom. It was near where the new wall way getting installed. The damage was a 3" gap along the wall and ceiling. To my surprise that got repaired courtesy of Heartland. I was not expecting this to get repaired as it was not there during the initial quoting process. While getting a little extra drywall repaired may seem like something to be shrugged off, I think it attests to the overall character, and work quality that that Heartland offers. Tyler Shively conducted the measurements and provided a copy of the material order from Cater Lumber. (see attached order). We wrote the check and paid for the materials. The weekend before Shively's was supposed to start the siding job, Tyler contacted us and informed that he could no longer do the job due to having lost all of his employees. He asked where we wanted the materials delivered since he would not be doing the job? The siding could not be returned due to the fact that it was special ordered. Fortunately, we eventually found another contractor to do the siding job and use the materials purchased. BUT, Shivley's had way over ordered the amount of siding. Tyler ordered 12 squares of siding for the lower part of the cottage. He ordered 5 boxes of the Shake style siding for the top portion. When the job was finished there were 4 + squares left over - 2 COMPLETELY UNOPENNED BOXES at $340 per box. That is a 33% over order! Additionally, we had 2 1/2 boxes of the decorative shake style siding left over at $225 per box. And that is a 50+% over order. I understand the need to order a bit more due to cuts, waste, etc. But that much overage? Due to Tyler's inability to measure or do math correctly, we paid $1330 for materials that we didn't need nor can we return. So, if you want a company to order far more materials than needed, and potentially quit on you right before the day to start, Shively's is your company.
