An array of nibbles, starters and main courses will suit pretty much anyone who comes in here and who loves traditional Gastro-pub food. The specials menu also has some outstanding dishes! The pork belly starter with celeriac was very nice and followed by a very deep dish fish pie that was excellent too. A lovely country pub in Tarporley and I'll definitely be back.

Super tasty quality food, I noticed that on the menu it even tells you which farm the meat came from, or where the ice cream was made etc. The Greek Lamb and the Gammon are both brilliant. The portions are huge and I'm always left with enough food for another meal but save room for the Holly Bush sundae because you wont ever have a such a selection of tasty locally made ice cream :) The prices are great too, last time I went it was around 30quid for the 2 of us.

To start, i tried the deep fried cauliflower bites with a curried mayo and the amazing cheese soufflé with cheese sauce and beetroot for my starter. The soufflé was incredible, so fluffy and light!! I ordered traditional fish, chips and mushy peas for my main meal and this too was excellent. A lovely country pub and eatery - definitely try it if you're passing!!

We stayed in the dog friendly seperate section so if you aren't so keen on dogs, there is a beautiful seperated restaurant next door. The food is immense, very original menu with locally sourced food and a twist on some pub classics. I would recommend the samosa starter and chicken pate.

What a cracking find. The place had real character and even for a Monday lunchtime was very well patronised. No wonder. The service was excellent; the young chap behind the bar was extremely welcoming and was great with our 2 year-old granddaughter (note: child friendly, although a few high chairs would have been a bonus). The food was well prepared and far more than we could eat. The menus were extensive and provided good value for money. A nice little touch was having the menus pasted into the insides of different books, guides, reference books and even story books for the kids. Overall, a pleasant experience. If we are in the Chester area in the future, we will certainly be back, and I suggest if you, the reader of this review are near there, you give it a try, too; you won't regret it.

The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The food is well presented, good portion sizes and always tastes great. Families are most welcome and once you have your table it is yours for the night. The beer is well kept and the pub itself is decorated well and always clean and tidy but has a real local pub feel especially with the roaring real fire and pleasant garden.

The staff were all very welcoming, and we were all really impressed with the friendly, efficient service. The menu was full of English comfort foods...and they executed everything beautifully. Just look at my photos to get an idea...I tried the goats cheese and caramelised onion strudel, which came balanced on potatoes and perfect ratatouille. If you ever find yourself in this part of the country, it is definitely worth popping in here for some lunch! *Pro tip: It sounded like they get very booked up in the evening, so ring ahead to ensure you get a table!!

They source ingredients locally and specialise in Old School classic dinners and puds as well as having over 200 gins and 6 different tonics to boot. Gin tasting classes are £15 and are available during the week and on a Saturday ( check thier website for details gin lovers!) I opted for the roast Cheshire rib of beef with veg and of course my fav Yorkshire pud (£13.95) It didn't disappoint and was very tasty. Home made Yorkshire pud was a bonus. Even though it was a reasonable size i still felt like a pudding after my main meal so went for the Yorkshire rhubarb and ginger steamed pudding and custard (£5) Pudding was lovely and just the right size- 2 ingredients from Yorkshire in one meal is defo a result!! They have 6 bedrooms housed in the old school masters house so i think my next trip will be for a gin tasting course and an overnight stay- really cute pub and great friendly service!

Onion rings were also pretty good! It was generally pretty good. I went to the bar to ask about a gin menu, ended up getting up a 15 minute long chat with one of their... Well I can only describe them as "giniuses". Learnt a fair bit about gin, then drank a fair bit of gin... They make a mean cocktail. I recommend it, if you're in the area / aren't in the area. It's good for a meal / booze up. It also seems to do good gin tasting lessons or something. Go here. And drink gin.

The vegan menu is mostly pub grub favourites but fantastically prepared with real attention to detail. Lasagna; burgers; lentil fritters etc. You can also choose from a variety of faux cheeses and can have such rare treats as vegan cheesey chips; cheesey garlic bread; bespoke vegan pizzas and so on. I like the fact that they support the community around the area by buying their Beer and Produce locally whenever possible. Records date an Alehouse here right back to the 13th century and the interior decor reflects how the building has grown through the centuries.Lots of Oak beams and stone floors add buckets of character. You can choose one of the quiet corners for privacy or park up in one of the larger open areas and banter away or, weather permitting, take a table outside. Called in for lunch the other day and the menu, although not extensive, has everything for feeding all tastes from a wake-up morning coffee (open at 11am) to a refreshing pint of ale and home baked pie, or spend an easy evening with a fondue and some warm torn bread washed down with a pint of locally brewed traditional free house Cask Ale. The staff is wonderfully warm and welcoming, with excellent food to back it up. A combination of traditional pub food and higher-end "gastro-pub" fare, you really can't go wrong here. And the portions are impressive-- beware if you're ordering a starter and main. You may not have room for their excellent desserts! Ample seating inside and out-- can't wait for warmer weather to sit outside at the picnic tables alongside the River Dee. The best inside seating is in the original building as opposed to the more modern conservatory (though it depends on your taste). Bookings are not necessary, but if you want a seat by the fire, definitely call ahead!
