MY EXCELLENT EXPERIENCES WITH GENFINITY O&P…read moreby Scott Shaw! In 2015, I accidentally shattered my right ankle and other problems with my foot, after no real progress to recover, I requested Tarzana's Dr. Clifford Kahn, a lower limbs specialist, to remove my right foot in 2018 after its molecules were breaking down. The next year, I got my first prosthetic at Vogue in Northridge. A few years later, since what was left of my leg had changed as I lost weight, I tried using Hanger in Encino. There were problems with the results, but after two versions that weren't what I asked for, the Hanger manager and his top expert delivered the goods. Unfortunately, they were both immediately promoted to higher jobs at distant Hanger offices. The last time I was there, the kid that I attempted to work with showed the skills of an incompetent shoe salesman. I never bothered to return. Next, I began to work with a group in Northridge, Empowered, owned by a family. At first, it seemed to be the prosthetic place for me, but once they opened a third office, it became obvious that they'd bitten off more than they could chew. For example, it would take dozens of phone calls to get a call back. Since I was losing weight, my stub was starting to bottom out due to friction. Dr. Kahn kept sending Empowered prescriptions of an equipment that might have helped me, but all I ever received - three different times!!! - boxes of useless small bandaids. Empowered finally correctly ordered's prescription, but it didn't work. Dr. Kahn found a new device to help me for Empowered to order. The last time I spoke with a member of Empowered's team, he asked me "Can you drive over to see if this gizmo is what Dr. Kahn ordered?" Really?!? I'm a cartoonist, not a prosthetic expert. And neither is Empowered. Meanwhile, I used multiple layers of socks to thicken my stub to prevent my stump from bottoming out again. It was quite frustrating, believe me. So who could help me solve this evergoing painful problem? By this time, Hanger was purchasing and then shutting down self-owned and potential-rival prosthetic offices around the San Fernando Valley. Soon, Hanger and Empowered were nearly the only options for folks needing prosthetics. I could only discover three small outfits that still existed and specialized in prosthetics for adults. Martin Bionics' unique prosthetics were for athletes with a "socket-less socket, (whatever that means?) I'm 75 years old and the opposite of an athlete, so what would I do if this new concept doesn't catch on and Martin Bionics collapses? My second possibility was Valley Orthopedic Technology in Van Nuys. The salesman I met with told me what he thought I should use without asking me what I was looking for. Valley Orthopedic Technology was so amaturish that it didn't even have a business card to give me. Its vibe was similar to that of a used car lot. I had one final choice - Tarzana's Genfinity O&P. Fortunately, Its team of Deepak Bhardwaj and Blake Sanders immediately impressed me. Why? Genfinity O&P asked me what I wanted and offered creative suggestions to improve that. Deepak and Blake didn't waste time, either, quickly contacting my wife's insurance and measuring my lower leg. With each appointment, Deepak and Blake listened to my reactions while modifying and improving my new prosthetic. Surprisingly, far less than any of my previous experiences, Genfinity O&P's process took less than six weeks. Along the way, we got to know each other to the point that we became friends along the process. And when I needed a new addition made to defy bottoming out, Genfinity O&P Deepak delivered it directly to my home so I could immediately use it. Wow. At every level of this experience, I realized, over and over, "Well, I definitely made the right decision with Genfinity O&P!" I was there myself 4 years ago when my daughter's spinal curves progressed to 30-30 and our doctor recommended bracing. With the help of Gez's brace and Scroth exercises, the curve was reduced to 25-21. When we moved to nighttime bracing the curve crept up to 26-23, but that this is totally normal. Now our daughter is done growing, and she is officially done with bracing! Our experience was Gez was fantastic and the results were all a parent and child could ask for. I put them in my shoes and use them every day. They lasted more than a year and it helped my back to heal and not get inflamed like they used to get. The only thing is that they are short staffed so there weren't a lot of date options that would work with our schedule to come by to pick up our new DAFO's, so we got them well after they were ready. You will not be able to pay at the exit, so get the token before leaving. They are located on the 8th floor and the door is right in front of you on the left, when the elevator door opens. I normally call to make my appointment, but this time, I did it online and it took me to zocdoc. The weird part was the website doesn't know im already a patient. I called to ask if I needed to complete the form the website asked for, they said no, I can ignore it. Dr. Lebada is the doctor that took over Dr. Chau's patients. He is a genuine doctor. He listens to you and tries his best to provide you with as much assistance as you need. I addressed my issues and he is thorough with any pain or discomfort you may have. He will refer you to the people, place, or treatment that you are in need of. The technicians are all sweet and polite, always with a smile. As I was waiting to be seen by the doctor, water was brought to me because they offered and I accepted. I love coming here. I always feel welcomed.
