There are a few steep parts and some stair sections so I wouldn't call it an "easy / gentle" walk but it is not hard and def kid and dog friendly. You do get to see a few small waterfalls along the walk and can continue on farther on a trail that is cleared and mapped on AllTrails - but not one of the colored paths. That extension takes you farther up to falls #1 and #2. There is a stream crossing but you could turn around at that point if you wanted. They are some well placed large flat rocks to make it easier to cross, but if the water was high it would be tricky. Nice place with the bonus of walking along Indian Kill and watching the water flow.

A Hidden Gem for a Peaceful, Scenic Hike! The Fisher Trail…read moreis an absolute gem! At just 0.66 miles, it's the perfect little escape into nature -- and it's so beautiful, I honestly could have kept hiking for miles. It opened in October 2022, and you can really tell it's a thoughtfully maintained trail. There are trailheads at 47 Fisher Boulevard and 106 Mason Lane, making access super convenient. The first half-mile, from Fisher Boulevard to a lovely viewing platform overlooking the Phillipinkill, is even accessible for those with mobility disabilities, with a well-graded crushed stone surface -- such an important and inclusive feature. From the viewing platform, the trail gets a bit more adventurous, heading down a steep slope into the ravine and connecting to the Wild Turkey Trail. The variety in terrain makes it interesting, and the views are just stunning. Part of the trail crosses a 35-acre parcel owned by the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy, managed in partnership with Five Rivers -- and it really shows in the care and preservation of the land. If you're looking for a peaceful, scenic walk that feels like a mini escape into the woods -- Fisher Trail is a must-visit. Highly recommend for a quick nature fix or as part of a longer adventure in the area!

And it also more than lives up to the "natural" in its name because there's vast unspoiled natural elements for many to enjoy and appreciate, including streams, unpaved trails, and hills. Speaking of unpaved, this park is largely not wheelchair accessible, and there's no public restroom that I'm aware of, either in the parking lot or within the park. Regardless of which trail you eventually pick, the first about 0.5 mile has steep hills before you cross a bridge over a small creek to climb up to a decision point. The trails are clearly marked with colours on tree trunks, so staying on marked trails has so far been easy. The parking lot has never been full, so parking has never been an issue. Enjoy!

I would give 0 stars if I could. Our 6-year-old daughter attended for the first time, and like many young children in a new environment, she was understandably nervous. Rather than being met with patience and encouragement, she was reprimanded for not immediately rotating between activity groups. At six years old, children often need reassurance and guidance while they adjust to a new setting. That was not the approach we observed. The following incident was even more concerning. During pickup, my daughter became excited to see her mother and ran toward her before the formal sign-out process was completed. Instead of calmly reminding us of the procedure, Josh raised his voice at my wife in front of other parents and children. It was embarrassing, unnecessary, and completely unprofessional. Wanting to resolve the situation respectfully, I met with Josh the next day. I calmly explained that I did not appreciate my daughter or my wife being yelled at and asked that any concerns be addressed respectfully in the future. Rather than acknowledging our concerns or showing any understanding, he focused on defending his actions and criticizing my daughter's behavior. At no point did he demonstrate empathy for the fact that she is only six years old and was attending camp for the very first time. After our conversation ended politely, I thanked him for his time and left. Later that day, when my wife picked up our daughter, Josh told her that if I returned, he would contact the sheriff because he believed our conversation had been threatening. I found this accusation to be completely unfounded. My discussion with him remained calm and respectful from beginning to end. He also stated that if my daughter did not "listen" the following day, she would be removed from camp. As a parent, I expect a camp director to model patience, professionalism, and effective communication with young children and their families. Instead, our experience was marked by confrontation, public embarrassment, and what I felt was a lack of understanding of age-appropriate behavior. Six-year-olds require guidance, encouragement, and compassion--not intimidation. There are many excellent summer camp options available. Based on our experience, I would encourage parents to carefully consider those alternatives before enrolling their children here.

We still had a blast parking at the environment center and giving the unload dock with a special loading platform in the water to keep you stable well getting in. All free. BASS WE HIT OMG .10.3oz a new P.B. and a monster 16LB carp. In 6 hours we pulled 20+ bass 3LB or more. Highly recommend all my angler fishing men and women to go here. I especially enjoy starting near Schenectady Community College - an easy-to-spot local landmark with lots of room to park for group run meet-ups, a small track space perfect for timing splits and speedwork, and plenty of benches and grasses spaces for stretching and chatting before/after a walk, run, bike, or blade. The path varies in flatness, tree cover, nature-views, and frequency of traffic crossing, offering a nice variety for any activity. I've spotted loads of unthreatening wildlife while on the path, including turtles, deer, snakes, ground hogs, beavers, and many different birds, squirrels, and enjoy being near the water and especially stopping at the locks to stretch, rest, or fuel mid-long run, too. [extra garbage cans, tables/benches, and proximity to other humans makes it feel like a safer space to slow, perhaps?] I am hopeful that the Color the Canal project will return for the third year in 2021, which creates visual and sculptural art to welcome the CEC cyclists riding from Buffalo to Albany each July.

My wife and I walked the portion between Watervliet and Albany recently and it was a pretty nice…read moretrail. Much of it was in the woods along an old railroad right-of-way, so there were plenty of trees providing shade. A couple of clearings allowed for sightlines of the expressway but it wasn't too noisy. One area had a bench, picnic table, and informational display about the location of the old Troy Iron Works. A few areas had cutaways in the trees for sightlines to the river. I wish there was more to see or do along the trail, and it would have been appreciated to have some more benches or tables or whatnot to rest on. But, the area in Watervliet where the parking lot is had a couple of tables.

This year they have a guide climb with you whereas in previous years they were on the ground for help also. Both ways is totally fine, having one climb with you also has its advantages as well cuz they can help you with the obstacles with personal instructions and new this year they even take some pictures for us in the trees which was awesome especially if you don't have a GoPro or something yourself to take pictures with. I'm heading back with friends in August for some more fun!! They took safety precautions for COVID like masks, gloves, limited group size, etc. During these COVID times and all the restrictions in place some places are struggling. Just wanted to shout out & spread some positivity. I will definitely come back the next time I go to
